I find it very unlikely that any club is squeaky clean, but hopefully nothing to this extent

Oh yeah there might be isolated incidents but going back to day one with the things Chris Lewis dealt with, seems WA and Victoria were on different planets.

Support for Lewis etc could have been better back then for sure, but yeah.

P.S. To be honest, I've never minded Hawthorn but how big of a dog act is this asking for a review after Clarkson has left for another club!! There's obviously going to be a pretty investigation to find out the veracity and depth of these claims but if punishments are meted the club itself should be copping in the neck.

The review was triggered by allegations made by Cyril Rioli and/or his partner primarily about Jeff Kennett. At the time I don’t remember anything implicating Clarkson in anything untoward

Makes you wonder just how involved AFL clubs get involved in players lives outside football, whether they’re indigenous or not

That article is pretty confronting reading and if true I’m not sure if the careers of Clarkson and Fagan survive. At a minimum it’ll be a massive black mark that will follow them both

I would agree their positions would be untenable. Multiple clubs would have to open their own investigations as a matter of due diligence given the spread of Hawthorn staff around the league.

If the AFL is serious they’ll undertake a league wide review

Was Simpson one of the ‘assistant coaches’ with whom any of the bullied players lived?

We don’t know. Even having done this would involve and taint him.

A lot more to play out with this. Possibly the most explosive claims that have ever been publicly aired in the AFL world.

If the claims are established to be true, it is hard to see how Clarkson survives. Bye, bye million dollar contract.

Talk about skeletons in the closet!

Surely, the Hawthorn situation has to be investigated first.

Making it a competition wide review would dilute and render relatively meaningless the specific accusations and accounts that have been made concerning Hawthorn in a particular period, and Clarkson, Fagan and others.

Perhaps a wider review in time.

How much dirty linen would that pull up?

This is some heavy reading…

We all know that coaches, admins and senior players (even some junior players) will go to some pretty extraordinary lengths to push for a premiership but this is something else.

Forgetting for the moment the racial element where it looks to be targeted toward indigenous players at the club, what senior coach thinks it's appropriate to tell one of his players that his partner should be getting an abortion? Surely that is not standard practice in the professional sporting world.

Maybe there's some even darker shit hiding in the clubs of various sporting organisations around the world... We know there have been numerous paedophiles lurking inside various clubs and sporting organisations (Larry Nassar amongst other scumbags) but outside of that, I can't think of any worse allegations than what has come out yesterday.

So why did Simmo play Jackson in the midfield in the afl for the majority of the year when he wasn’t even a good midfielder at WAFL level and then delist him?
Really poor coaching decision and deprived other midfielders, Clark, Winder, O’Neill of opportunities.
I just don’t get it.
I don't think anyone really understands most of the decisions the club made this year. On and off the field.

Probably would have got another contact if he excelled?

I’m a bit too young to know state league specifics, but the serious lack of indigenous players in the VFL for a 100 years is probably a reflection of how players were treated. However, it would be naive of me to think players in the WAFL and SANFL weren’t subject to racism.

Reading Geelong fans commenting this morning about Scott and how they didn't think he had another flag in him makes me think I wonder if the powers that be will just hang onto Simmo until the wheel turns.

Simpson won our last premiership and he will win our next courtesy of our draft hall in 2023 and probably 2024 including Harley Reid and an entire new midfield. Keeping him, the fitness team, recruiters and Dr Nick Riviera for 1-2 years will be the best thing for our rebuild and happy times in the future.

He's past it, since 2018 he's coached extremely poorly. He should take a hike along with Nisbett and the fitness staff, we need to clear the decks and do a proper rebuild.
