Say what you like about Suma but he’s an Eagles great ,proven as a player and a coach. Players that stay involved in footy be it coaching or media generally have access to more info than mugs like us. Don’t have to believe everything he says but there has to be some truth in there
Have you ever listened to him on the radio? Some of tripe he comes up with is truly embarrassing. I wouldn't give anything he says any credibility.

It is very possible that opinion on the eagles Board was not unanimous, but that after voting and making a "majority rules" call (as per the rules) they decided to present a unanimous united front. Given how much of a media blowtorch is on Simpson and the club and how quickly it will heat back up with bad results next year they might have felt they needed to try and protect Simpson from constant media badgering regarding his position.

It would be pretty destabilising for Simpson for the Board to come out and say the vote was 3 - 2 in Simspon's favour, or 3 - 3 with the Chairman's vote the tie breaker. It would make it seem like if he loses one more vote on the Board he is out. If we are going to keep going with him we need to support him and make life as easy as possible for him. Destabilisation is not in anybody's interest, even if the Board has to tell a white lie to dodge the destabilisation bullet. I don't have a problem with it if that is what hapenned. One of the rare instances where i am OK with the club lying to the public for the greater good. The decision to retain Simpson might be the right call or it might be the wrong call, but either way now that the call has been made lets give it every chance to turn out positively.

Good Governance 101.

All parties in the board can have their say, express their opinions and have an independent vote.

Once a decision is made, the Board is then united in endorsing the decision.

Nobody needs to know vote split.

This is how you get a Sheedy/Essendon situation....

I think the word ‘unanimous’ is just corporate board speak and doesn’t reflect the reality of the situation.

It’s more this is ‘what we have decided to do as as a group’ not everyone agreed to take this action.
This was the prevailing view.

Rather misleading really.

Really!!! You are just coming up with "I am OK with the club lying" how do you know this or are you making an uninformed deduction.

His dummy spit on not getting the WC gig was a monumental insight into his psyche, IQ and EQ. How many clubs have now considered but rejected him?

His comments on the board are puerile and presents an absolutely staggering lack of any mature awareness as to how professional management groups reach collective decisions. Again, how many clubs have now considered but rejected him? Perhaps this was a factor!

I am sure Peter Sumich is a well qualified assistant but he has never been a senior coach despite this.

It is also well known that Peter Sumich applied for and missed out succeeding John Worsfold as our senior coach.

Do the math.

Jack Nicholson Yes GIF

Good, Suma. Let the 'offended' flow through you.

Barich said on the podcast today that Sumich was basically told he was getting the job.

And that Trevor was very much in support of him.

This is the guy that left for Freo, spouts incoherent nonsense constantly, even in his surely ghost written column, and allegedly got into a physical dustup with Ross Lyon.

It's honestly a miracle that we have been this successful with Big Trev at the helm this long.

Why would you be presenting Sumich as being in a "physical dust up" with Ross Lyon as a negative and what are the examples of his "incoherent nonsense"?

I’d hope that not everyone on the board had the same opinion and that the discussion over Simpson’s future was robust. Thrashing out a big decision like this needs to be be fully tested before finalising a position

Once the decision had been made you then want all board members to be behind it and unanimous in their support. Which seems to be the case

Refer Essendon and Kevin Sheedy when Hird got overlooked last year…. How is he still on the board.

Did he really say that? That is a bit of a bombshell. Not sure i believe totally believe Barich's claims. They seem a bit far fetched. But i don't dismiss the idea that Nisbett has been machinating and playing Game of Thrones behind the scenes either.

Eddie McGuire has definately been pushing an anti Simpson drumbeat over East and presenting it as not personal opinion but based on sources. And i 100% believe that McGuire's one and only source at the club is Nisbett and everything that Eddie spouts regarding us comes from Nisbett. The other tell that it was all coming from Nisbett is that Eddie would caveat every WCE/Simpson themed segment/commentary with the violins playing for us about Covid. Nobody takes the "it was all because of Covid in 2022" line seriously anymore or is trying to sell that anymore except for Nisbett. Nisbett clearly asked him to push that out.

If Suma's name did come up in coaching conversation with the board, it's almost hilarious - or is it due diligence?
If it's ticking or crossing the boxes, pretty easy one? (stick to vegetables Suma)

Suma was the hot favourite at the time in the media but they hadn't interviewed Simmo yet because he was still involved with Hawthorn in the finals.

Word on the street was that Simmo interviewed so well, they pretty much decided he was their guy.
Sumo's cohorts like Brad Hardie pretty much said the same, before dropping a load on the club.

Think his name came up a decade ago, not recently.

To Suma's credit he has made it through to the final 2-3 quite a few times. How that's occurred I have no idea but we weren't alone in shortlisting him after his pitch.

WC have offered Dev a four year contract
I reckon Dev is the priority and gets done. Glass is telling him the road is blocked at Brisbane and it's all clear sailing back out west.

And also that he was alledgedly told he had the job and even had a goodbye dinner with some of the Freo staffers before being given the news that Simmo came in and pipped him.
