Havent bothered watching Simmos presser.

Anything groundbreaking he said?

Synergy?

On SM-G925I using BigFooty.com mobile app
Was happy with the 'small win' in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, but said the midfield lowered their colours in the 1st and 4th quarters. Talked about the need to continue blooding young players, reckoned Hurn was our best today. Lamented about not having Cripps, Sheed, Gov, Oscar out there.

Didnt mention 'synergy', or the need to 'own it', but rolled out the old 'we need to get better...'

If you need your whole squad to compete then either your squad is s**t or your coaching is s**t, as you are always going to have some injuries

Based on a combination of last year and this year in reality we are down 3 of our top 6 defenders. Every week.

We are blooding young players and they are playing in that manner. The last quarter fadeout was entirely expected. I'm only really pissed about the first quarter. We got destroyed. We made major changes for the second quarter and had our best quarter of the year against a top 4-6 side. Adjustments were made at half time and although we were the stronger team for most of the third we couldn't take advantage. The fourth we were a non entity and just got rolled.

Exactly, the first quarters are a worry. Always out of it after that.

Expected better with Nick back whole team started flat.

Look everyone, mention the podcast and get a dummy account
I have genuinely no idea where you’re going with this but I’m very excited to find out.

What dummy account? Who’s bringing up the podcast? Just relieved to see you’re back again mate, was worried about you when you disappeared on us.

Before we even get to discussions of Zone defences vrs something else or gameplan type issues, i think the more pressing issue is the mentality and attitude of the playing group. They look beaten mentally before they even step on the park. The poor work rate vrs other clubs plus the Hip E club incident suggest that there is a large contingent on our list who just don't really care. Or don't care to the extent that they need to in order to be successfull at AFL level. I think that that needs to be addressed first and before all else. The attitude and mentality and mind state of our playing group is awful. And i am not sure that the person who allowed that to seep in in the first place, and is still in denial that it is one of the problems, can be the bloke who fixes it. They don't look like they think we can win, and even worse they don't look like they care. And Simpson and Nisbett think Covid is the main and only real reason for all the problems.

In my opinion, a lot of the clubs issues would be solved if they just came out and told us what the plan was going forward.

Is the club still chasing a flag with the current squad? Top 4? Top 8? yes? Ok, then what's going wrong?

Or Is the club going to bite the bullet and fully rebuild; phase out the older players, new game plan for 2023, sus out the players we have, hit the draft etc etc

I think most fans can deal with us being shit IF there is a direction/plan in place for the future (3-5 years).

I don't have an issue with Simpson, I just want to know what I should be judging him on.

Synergising mate Synergising, that’s the plan whatever the **** that is?

If the club put the cue back in the rack at this stage and put some of the important and more injury prone players like Yeo, McGovern, Natanui and maybe a few others like Sheed and Allen, in cotton wool for the rest of the year then i would be prepared to accept that as valid excuse if we copped a few more beltings between now and the end of the season. The number 1 pick and making sure our important players can have a full pre season for next year is more important than the possibility of picking up another one or two junk time wins at the end of disastrous year. Any wins from this point on are completely meaningless. They would be pyrrhic victories. And if what we are told is true then Simpson has been guaranteed next year so he has no reason to complain that it is against his interests to start resting players. Alas i fear that they are going to do the stupid thing and go down the chase for pyrrhic victories pathway and not cotton wool blokes.

They’ve come out and used the word rebuild explicitly several times this season.

If the club came out and said they were planning to contend for the 2023 flag they'd be met with raucous laughter.
I agree. What else can you say when you are on track to win a spoon other than that you are "rebuilding"? Plus, i don't recall them using the word "rebuild", i think they said "transition". And they didn't flesh that out at all. They didn't concede that they think can no longer make finals with the list we have, they didn't talk about considering trades of experienced players going out in return for picks, they didn't talk about clearing out older players that are untradeable. They didn't talk about a 3 or 5 year plan to be able to contend again. I am not convinced that they have really accepted that the current results reflect where our list is at. They are being very, very cagey and quiet about what the plan is and what the internal thinking at the club is. So either their thinking is completely muddled and they don't know where we are at or what they are going to do about it, or they do have clear firm opinions but they think those opinions wouldn't sound credible if they voiced them at the moment, i.e. they think the list is still in good shape and the current results are an aberration.

Did they?

I think I recall Simpson saying around the Richmond loss that there is a "transition" happening but nothing really explaining what the plan is going forward.

Excerpt from the Chairman’s letter to members, nine weeks ago, at the conclusion of Round 8.

(The footy department) are also determined to work extremely hard to ensure our team is set up for sustained future success. This will include the rebuild of our list with a heavy focus on the AFL draft.

And from a follow up ABC radio interview the next day.

If we go through next year and there is no improvement and there is no sign of improvement, then the coach obviously would have to explain where he sees the club going.

Some of the soft-tissue injuries, perhaps they can be avoided. Is it the way that we train, is it the ground that we run on? What is the cause? We can't accept the fact that we are getting those injuries.

Nisbett on radio the same week:
There is no chance that Adam won't be coaching the football club going forward," Nisbett told SEN WA.

"We're trying very hard to change the style of play.

"That doesn't mean we're going to get immediate results, particularly when we're playing the upper echelon of the AFL.

"It is a brutal business, and we expect that there's going to be a little bit more pain before we improve.

"I know our members are disappointed with our performances, and I know they get disappointed with some of the end results.

"But we're working towards getting better, and that's what Adam stands for at the present stage."

Speaks to an acknowledge of wholesale change needed in many areas, with the club obviously thinking S+C, game style, list rebuild but crucially not coaching. Whether that’s smart is up for debate, hence the thread, but they’ve acknowledged a rebuild with Simmo at the helm as the plan for months now.

Simmo after our Essendon win two weeks ago said “we’re going through a rebuild” in his post game presser.

It’s very easy to say “they’re not even acknowledging we need to rebuild” if you ignore all the times senior staff have told the members and media that we need to rebuild.
