Here’s a quote from the worst on training, where they have Yeo training with the mids and Jones training with the forwards.

“Competing in a drill that split midfielders, forwards and defenders into three groups, Yeo took his place in the West Coast engine room.
Jamaine Jones, who rocketed into the top 10 of the club’s best-and-fairest this year in a rebounding defender role, mingled with the forwards, while Melbourne speedster Jayden Hunt joined the backs.
WC were trying to stop the bleeding, not a new game style.”

We were woeful, Simmo is bog average in my opinion.
Gee, even bog average coaches can win flags these days.

Whose opinion is this please - Glen Quartermaine?

Despite the fact he’s included it in the “quote”, it’s fairly obvious it’s his own comment and not from the article. The West doesn’t refer to the club as “WC”. And even the nonciest footy journo wouldn’t suggest that a change to take the game on more from the backline was simply “stopping the bleeding”, when it would actually do the opposite.

Yeah it was very confusing.

Most of us are just sick of the excuses now. If we have another season of being bottom 4 which looks likely after last night's game. I get it we are in a rebuild but to rebuild you have to actually play those young players.

You don't rebuild playing seniors that continue to disappoint and get given games. Sends the wrong message to our youth that games are not earned.
2023 should be the year of earn your keep not credits in the bank. Agree Simmo will be sacked before the mid season bye if he continues with gifting games to complacent seniors and I can't see that changing. Just excuse after excuse is what we've become.

Biggest example is Gaff.
No way should he be playing round 1 with the crap his produced so far in the practice matches.
We seem to have to wait for a long stretch of poor performance to even get talking about it. Gaffs been poor for a long time. Doesn't deserve his place in round 1.

I tend to disagree with anyone who speculates that Simmo will be sacked mid-season. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe we've ever turfed a coach like that....not even Ken Judge.

If however, we serve up another steaming pile of shit this year, he's gone at the end of the season.

I've always sat in the "give Simmo a chance to rebuild" camp but yesterdays hitout did not fill me with confidence that he's the man to do it. Hope to be proven wrong.

Here's a question though...who gets his job?

Before the bye, we have
-Giants, Suns and Bombers at home
-Kangaroos and Hawks (in Launceston) away
-Plus three games at our second home AO - one against each of the SA teams and one against Geelong (we’re not winning that though).

I’ll put a line through the derby, home games against Melbourne, Carlton and Collingwood, the away game against Richmond and the Magic the Gathering game against Geelong.

Seven winnable games before the bye, ideally we should have at least four wins. Three wins might be acceptable. Two wins or less - let’s review where we’re heading.

Not all about losses for me, but the manner of losses. Getting pumped on our home deck by relatively average sides and not being able to get the ball forward of halfway, I’m not going to be able to stomach too much of that. Got my absolute fill last year.

If we are 0-5, which isn’t inconceivable, is Simpson under pressure? Or does his contract provide him with some protection?

If we drop the north and gws games I can see us going 0-7 even.

He will definitely be under pressure (IMO). There will be the protection of the contract for sure, but there has been some very strong public commentary from the club (Fitzpatrick, Nisbett, Simpson himself) about the need for significant improvement and if that improvement isn’t forthcoming…

I don’t necessarily think it will be losses, more if it is the same sort of issues, no definitive change to game plan, not playing youth, etc which will start the pressure. If things really go south, particularly in relation to crowds (losing money) Nisbett will act. If he is in danger, Simmo will be out the door first…

I personally don't think Adelaide will be an average side this season .....or the next.

If we go 0-5, that's like 15 club losses in a row or something. It is completely unacceptable for us.

Which will happen if North and GWS are losses. In fact it'll be 17 or 18 straight losses if they lose first 2 rounds. A once proud club would be a laughing stock backing a coach with that output

Unfortunately, this ain't happening. Seating at Optus is mainly by season ticket holders, so even if they don't turn up, the Club isn't losing money.

Admittedly, low crowd numbers isn't a good look and may be a cause of (minor) embarrassment, but financially it's not going to hurt them. There's a massive wait-list for season tickets, so even a protest vote of members not renewing at seasons end isn't going to phase them...

I don’t disagree… But another year like last year may precipitate change. Our profit “dropped” to 3.5m (from 7.4). There were circumstances (COVID), but now that that reason has lessened, I think continual low crowds will be an issue for the higher ups.
