If we're blowing the cap I'd prefer we spent it on extra S&C, development, tactical oppo analysis, scouting, just anything with an eye on the future and getting more player availability.

I'll judge Simmo when he's got a team to pick from.
This is it - I get the frustration but we are putting historically bad teams on the field and there's just not much a coach can do.

Fix up the S&C and get some decent picks/free agents in the team and reassess at the end of this contract.

Even reading fans from other teams saying if we got rid of Simpson nothing would change.

Saying he needs to see us through 2 more years of drafts and luck with injuries and then a new coach will have something to play with.

The issue will be if we have a half decent season next year the club will probably get all excited and re-sign him again for 5 years

As far as i understand it everything is in the hands of the WAFC. If there is to a review or any sackings it is they who will be the ones to make the call. Just as at Freo Lyon and Rosich got sacked when the WAFC switched sides and went with the Peter Bell led anti Lyon/Rosich faction.

And everything the WAFC do or don't do will be about royalties/cash flow to them. They don't care if we win a flag or a spoon. They just care about money. So it all comes down to whether the risk to their royalties is higher by keeping Nisbett and Simpson et al or if it is higher by making changes and having the club totally bottom out.

He’s gotta go now.
In my opinion it should have been last year, we’ve now wasted a whole off season and half of this season. Things will only get worse before they get better for Simmo this year and next so pressure will just keep mounting.

If other major changes from HQ down aren’t gonna happen, then Simmo is eventually going to get burned at the stake.

It’s going to happen, so why not just rip the band aid off now

There needs to be an AFL run review of the club. If that means the entire board, CEO replaced then that happens first, then the rest of the staff including head coach are under review. These performances are beyond pathetic. They are not currently producing an AFL level product. This has to happen ASAP though as this can't go on all year.
I wouldn’t trust the AFL to run a bath.

External reviews, all for it.

I think Simmo is the right man to start the rebuild. You could see from the early season games a clear switch in gameplan that had potential. He quite clearly cares and is invested in the team and players.

He's been absurdly hamstrung in the last few years in ways barely believable and probably unprecedented in the professional era. I think he's been let down horribly by the off field staff and senior management and the blood letting should start there.

But given that it won't, I wouldn't be surprised if he walked. That's what I'd be doing.

I'm really not sure how you can endure with a coach that's succumbed a 100+ point defeat to other lowest ranked team with almost the exact same age and games played profile for that game. There's no other professional sport in the world where a coach survives that.

Let's remove financial penalties and (Simmos a nice guy) from the discussion...

Nisbett has to go first, any new person that comes in will be forced to fall in line under Nisbett. Club needs new leadership starting from the top and then changes can be made without the boys club mentality. I think that will be the start of real change as all the mates that have comfortabley been there for years will get moved on. New faces, new standards, new ideas

I believe Simpson is a "I only coach our best 22" type of guy, rather than a coach the whole squad type of guy. So when you have these situations the non best 22 guys (who've been neglected for the past two years) come in completely unprepared for AFL level.

Lol, you think the AFL cares about WCE? Cute.
They will only act if our fans stop rocking up and tv ratings drop.

Which could 100% happen should we continue this garbage.

Would LOVE to see an attendance of zero at Optus next week would be a statement.

I really don't think there is any incentive to watch us next week. Complete waste of time. 12,000 showed up at the WACA the week after we got flogged by 160 points by Essendon at Windy Hill in 1989. I'd expect the equivalent of that at Optus next week maybe 35,000 <

It is not all Simpson's fault. There has been bad luck. Underperformance and bad decisions by other departments within the club etc. But that doesn't necessarily equate to him still being the right man to coach us from here.

I also think one of the problems is that Simpson knows that at some point he is going to be sacked. This is going to be our third consecutive season with no finals. I think even the most optimistic among us (including Simpson) would concede that our list is so run down that even if we do everything right from here we still have a minimum of another 3 years after this with no finals in front of us. And that could easily become 4 or 5 years or more if we don't get everything right, especially our draft picks. No coach in the modern AFL has ever survived 6 - 8 years or more with no finals. He knows there is no way he will survive long enough to do all the work that needs to be done before we make finals again. He is on a hiding to nothing. That must be incredibly deflating for anybody in that position and would impact your energy levels and motivation.

The decision not to start rebuilding at the end of 2021 was the beginning of the end for us. Clearly we were out of time in terms of winning things. Yet we still pushed on with the same list more or less.
Were you expecting the entire list to be turned over in 2 off seasons?

It's amazing how we're still having this argument. Simmo at the moment is like a bartender trying to pour beers while the kegs are near-empty and the delivery truck hasn't arrived with new stock yet.

The problem with WCE is that supporters still turn up to games, still buy merchandise, and still renew their membership despite the horrible performances.

AT the end of the season, i still expect to not be able to get a better seat / membership just like last year.

So I dont expect the bottom line to be affected.

The media on the other hand will continue to pour pressure on WCE and at some stage we will see some heads roll. Likely not Simmo though, even though i feel his time has come. Whoever decided to renew him, however, will be on the chopping block.

Simmo can stay or go, that makes no difference at the moment. It’s those above him that I want out of the club. Trevor and his bandwagon of yes men can depart MRP ASAP. I don’t think that happens without an independent, external review though.
