Not going to reveal my source, but I have been told by someone very close to Treloar that he intends to stay with GWS, he knows they're going to do special things soon.

Just to back you up a bit, I heard that about Treloar about 4 weeks ago BUT he is still un signed. To say GWS are nervous would be a understatement. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

If he goes to Tigerland we'll be looking at this & next years first rounders and a Vlaustin/Ellis type player. He ain't coming cheap.

And if you think he is...You must be a St Kilda fan...

Treloar is a very good young player, but he's not worth two first rounders and Vlaustin/Ellis (both of whom were drafted in the first round). Anyone who thinks that's a true and/or realistic valuation has absolutely no idea.

In general the club the player is leaving gets the short end of the stick. Gubby Allan is notorious for being a tough negotiator though, so if anyone can do it he can. IMO you guys need a KPD more than anything else. For Treloar I think it'll be between staying at GWS or coming to Pies (for a first and second round pick or first round pick and a player).

Treloar is a very good young player. But remember that in 2012 at age 22 Beams was an All-Australian, club best and fairest, who averaged over 31 possessions a game, led the entire AFL for handball receives and was third in the competition for disposals. He was also in a premiership midfield rotation at age 20.
Last year at age 24 and in his prime he was traded for pick 5, 25 and Jack Crisp (a young player who hadn't had much senior exposure).
In that context, what is Treloar worth? And where is he rated out of the current GWS midfield?

We also traded #67 to Brisbane as part of the Beams trade.

I agree with your general point: the Beams trade is a useful yardstick. Beams was a better-credentialled player (but Treloar is within the ballpark) and was traded for a top 10 pick and a pick in the twenties, plus steak knives. Reckon that's Treloar's worth too: a top 10 pick and early to mid-second rounder. GWS will probably be hoping for two first rounders, but I'd be surprised if they got it.

Treloar fast becoming the hottest ticket in town. Pies certainly going to nab a big recruit, is he the one.

The thing about Beams though, he only wanted to go to Brisbane. I don't think Gold Coast were ever seriously entertained were they?

Treloar has told (at least one player - who I heard this from) that he is going back to Melbourne next year.

Melbourne.

The offer from at least 3 clubs bandied about in the media, North, Tiggies and Pies is roughly $50k a year. Negligible, really.

So he is opening himself up to a club which offers us the best deal. Hence the 2 first rounders and a top 22 player which improves our list.

As long as that club is a big club which will give him what he wants, fame and a media career after footy and big crowds every week, he's not fussed.

And he is not the Judd fan. That is Shiel.

North and Tigers will finish too high to get good draft picks meaning Collingwood will be best placed to satisfy GWS.

2 first rounders and a top 22 player won't happen. 2 first rounders maybe, 1 first rounder and an exchange of other picks and a good player maybe.

This article: http://m.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl...terview-the-rock/story-fni5ezdm-1226959445445 "... on Friday, Treloar will line-up against his boyhood idol, Chris Judd, on Sunday."

And the first 20 second of this video beg to differ: http://m.gwsgiants.com.au/video/2014-09-26/afl-360-adam-treloar "massive Carlton fan and Juddy was my idol"

Really? Proves how much of a shizen punter I am. Could've sworn Treloar was a Pies supporter growing up.

We don't need uber high draft picks, just a top 10-ish this year and next will suffice. Helps build our bank of draft points for our academy kids and a top 22 that compliments / improves our team.

Been wrong before, even one post before this...but I can't see Treloar going for anything less than 2 first rounders and a top 22 player - and I can't really see him going anywhere but Richmond tbh.

How will Richmond get those picks? You need a key position defender I reckon. Jack Frost or Nathan Brown ok?

If you think we would let go Corey Ellis and our first rounder for Treloar you are dreaming. Treloar is nice but our main need is a Motlop type. I would be more then happy for my club, if they could secure Motlop to go hunting a big body mid like a Miles from either GWS or GCS discards.

If that is all you ended up paying you would be getting him cheap.

The pick looks like being somewhere between 12 and 16 and in this shallow draft where outside a top 10 there isn't a lot of value to be had. GWS would never go for a trade like that.

The PSD will not be a factor if he decides to leave. No way treloar would want to run the gauntlet of the Suns, lions, blues and dons and to a lesser extend demons/saints pulling the trigger to try and get to clubs such as the pies and tigers.

I can't ever remember a player allow their current club to negotiate with multiple clubs to get themselves the best deal.
You are living in a fantasy last bud.

If he leaves and when he nominates a club, prepare to be short changed.

Welcome to reality.

Didn't Judd do that?

And no way will GWS risk getting zip for him. No way.

You need draft picks to gain the unfair draft advantage that you have been gifted.

Riverina....pftt.........

I'll prepare for your reality.

If you're happy to prepare for the reality where Hawthorn land Dangerfield and Tigers get Treloar and you're left holding all the cash and no cards.

And you think Treloar would want to end up running around at the Lions for the next few years? No a chance we will get zip for him.

We don't need to get rid of treloar to get the picks we need for our academy players. We have fringe players who will leave for opportunity which will give use the picks we need.

Most definitely a possibility. Who would know.

If it's between us and the Tigers, you would/should be hoping its the Pies.
Better draft pick and more possibity of gaining a KPD.

GWS need to trim their list by another 2 players by the next draft? So they will likely not draft much more than their academy players (maybe 1?? tops). Its likely then that they will opt for a future pic as part of a Treloar deal. They will likely take only draft picks for Treloar unless a star is offered up - doubt that though. There is no point in GWS taking steak knives. The AFL conveniently introduced the future trading scheme in time for the Treloar deal.
