What shocks me is that no one cops a penalty out of this. No loss of draft picks, fines or money off the future cap? AFL basically giving a green light to clubs making up the draft rules as they go along.

I suppose a fine would open the AFL up for criticism for having almost no rules in the first place!

Nobody you mean Collingwood, right?

I said this as early as a few days after the trade was done.

Collingwood shouldn't not been allowed to this and bring the game into disrepute. The offer had been agreed upon and they reneged.

If your financial advisor is promising 10% returns walk away.

I hear bitcoin returns way more though, that is what my spam says. Or even better for BF posters since they post about it all the time, you should invest your money in sports betting, you can get way more than 10% if you are a man who knows 'value'. ;)

Very inconsistent reporting on this.

SEN saying the contribution is 1.5M over 5 years.

The Age are saying it's less than 1M.

Hard to know what to believe.

The age are saying it's an average of 200k x 5.

So it's a circa a mill or 1.5 mill.

That's the difference between the pies bending over and taking a pineapple up their backside with lube or without.

It makes no real difference to the main story, which is that the pies have had yet another pineapple stuffed inside them because their incompetence is utterly breathtaking.

Bet there's a new AFL form from next trade period that has a financial section where clubs have to agree on the financials BEFORE the trade is approved.

This episode has shown how amateurish the AFL can be and what low life the key players are at the Pies, you included Fat Chins Maguire

So Pies paying $1.5 mill over the next 5 years to clear Treloar off their list - sweet

If the amount is 1 million dollars and it is what the club more or less owe Treloar in back payments I understand the amount payed. It is still incompetent list management and whoever is in change should be let go. It shouldnt matter if we were in the window or not. If its 1.5 then the Pies have completely caved in and lied about it as well.

Collingwood supporters:

"We must be doing these deals in order to pay 95% of the cap this year, we are targeting a big play at a FA for 2022 and beyond!!"

"It's only a million dollars we are paying for one of our prime movers to play at another club, a Collingwood simp reported it, not bad business after all!!"

Everyone else:

"Delusional..."

Pies fans might want to read the full article in the printed version of The Age before thinking they’ve negotiated down from $1.5m to $1m. They haven’t negotiated the Dogs down at all, it’s as was agreed verbally on trade night.
“The Bulldogs have been adamant they were prepared to pay Treloar around $3 million for the five years remaining on his contract and have not shifted on their agreement to pay that amount to Treloar with the Magpies agreeing to a complex deal that sees Treloar receive what he is entitled, with separate contracts in place.”

The $1 mil could be true if his average $900k salary is misreported, meaning both the Dogs pay $3mil over the 5 years and the Pies chip in $1mil only.

Yep exactly but they haven’t negotiated anything down the past few weeks. If it was 1 mil trade night it’s still 1 mil, if it was 1.5 mil trade night it’s still 1.5 mil.
If you accept he was on 4.5 they are up for 1.5 but no one really knows if the 4.5 is accurate.

Taylor Adams denying he was ever asked about Treloars place on the team. Buckley has lied to Treloar and lied about his leadership group. They’ve treated Treloar like scum and tried to get out of a deal they did on draft night. Yet people are up in arms about an 18 year old making some comments about leaving home.
Id be surprised if the players didnt confront the club saying how dare you say we said things when we in fact didn't.

They have lied about it.

I've read all your posts. You are grasping for something even slightly less awful than the awful reality.
The reality is awful for us it doesnt matter who you listen to or believe. We got rid of some good players in really dodgy circumstances for almost nothing. Heads should roll for this and I dont mind Eddie being the first name on that list. If you feel however like many others on this thread that you know the exact details and believe all the financial numbers from reporters like Edmund or that Age story then I stand by my assessment of you in my last post.

I think this is probably right.

We had him on 900k for one year of his contract, so it was typical sensationalist reporting to go with 900K per year for 5 years (which is frankly just ludicrous and could never have been the case).

Seems the Dogs were never paying more than 600K, but Treloar was never on 900K per year in the first place and the clubs have mostly been negotiating about how the Pies' contribution would be apportioned over the next 5 years.

Wow my club has been incompetent here. I think a lot of Pies fans (me included) have been hopeful that the negotiations were going on because the intention was to try to reduce the wage contribution on the basis that the trade price was so unbelievably low, but it seems that was never the case (or if it was, then we've gotten nowhere, which is even worse). It is beyond belief that a professional club could ever get itself into this position, but here we are!

He's getting a lot of abuse from Pies fans trying to make themselves feel better at the moment (which is understandable), but you guys have gotten an absolute gun, for fricking nothing. 600k for a player at his level is cheap. Your midfield looks monstrous for 2021.

Disaster for the Bulldogs. Good that Collingwood aren't going to let them have a player of Treloar's ability for nothing. Dogs tried to have their cake and eat it too (cheap trade + discounted salary) and it'll probably end up costing them a player.

This post aged well.
