Adelaide first week of the finals

Yeah and the last team to beat them there was us.

I see you live in Sydney, at least you won't have to travel first week.

I'm never confident of a win against Adelaide, we always seem to have a horror run in front of goal against them. They (1998) and Brisbane (2003) have been the only teams ever to beat us in a Sydney final. They have the forward line to beat us if Tippett and Walker fire, and Dangerfield is a menace. I think we have more chance of beating Collingwood next time we play them than the Crows.

Not to mention Walker kicking 60m bombs while we were missing from 30 out in front so bullshit everything just seems to bounce always their way.

So if....

Expected result of Crows WIN over SUNS; (also given reasonable margins of win/loss for % is negligible)

4 probable scenarios:

Hawks beat Eagles and Swans beat Cats:
We finish 2nd to play Crows ANZ.

Eagles beat Hawks and Swans beat Cats:
We finish 1st to play the Eagles ANZ.

Hawks beat Eagles and Swans lose to Cats:
We finish 3rd and play Crows AAMI.

Eagles beat Hawks and Swans lose to Cats:
We finish 3rd and play Hawks at MCG.

PS:
Collingwood WIN/LOSS has no influence on our path.
Cats win/loss doesn't move them from 6th home final (unless the Eagles lose % and we get hammered, if they are playing to grab fifth possie, bombers would need an unlikely win)
Great the Hawks-Eagles game is first up! We will know alot. We have more to play for than the Cats.

Oh man 2nd option would be brilliant but also not likely :D

People seem to forget that Adelaide haven't played at ANZ before. We have the advantage there and we have only lost once at ANZ in the finals and that was in 2003 to the Lions.

I would prefer that we win and hawks lose and we play West Coast in the first week.

Swans are a miles better side than they were than our 5 point loss to them earlier in the year where crows are not as good as they were in the first half of the year. If Sydney play Adelaide at AAMI first week you can book your ticket for a home prelim. Bookmark it.

The Run Home:
2. Sydney Swans
64 points (16 wins, five losses), 145.81 per cent

Round 23:
Geelong at Simonds Stadium

Saturday's loss leaves percentage the only buffer between the Swans and third-placed Adelaide. The daunting prospect of a trip to the Cattery makes a third-placed finish the likeliest scenario, although the Swans did win in Geelong in the same round last season.

Will finish top if:

  • They win AND the Hawks lose
Will finish second if:
  • They win AND one of Hawthorn or Adelaide loses
Other scenarios:
  • The Swans will travel in week one of the finals if they lose AND Adelaide wins. In that scenario they could finish third or as low as fourth, if West Coast and Adelaide both win.
Crystal ball final: Adelaide v Sydney Swans, qualifying final, AAMI Stadium

I checked the ladder predictor and we pretty much can't finish lower than 3rd.

Yep good one dickhead, uneducated, AFL website journalist. West Coast are going to beat Hawthorn by 250 points, make up the 20% deficit between them and us and we'll end up fourth.

In all seriousness, I don't think we should be discounting West Coast upsetting the Hawks. West Coast have a finals double chance to play for and can dodge playing Freo in an elimination final (which being a derby, they're probably 50/50 chance of winning). If the Eagles to pull off the upset on Friday night, then we better come to play on Saturday arvo to avoid facing Hawks at the G, the week after. And most likely Geelong the week after that in a semi final!

I did the ladder predictor and even if we lost by 100 and West Coast won by 100 which is both unlikely we would still be 3rd.

The top 3 are decided, the only thing we don't know is what the final positions will be.

I really don't think we need fear AAMI. We actually play pretty well there. Beat Port several times when they were a top team, and we've beaten Adelaide there more than once in recent years too IIRC.

exactly! 03 qf vs port anyone ? i remember no one gave us a hope in hell of winning that game. goodes out on an absolute show too! possibly his best game ever for us.

Obviously history isn't to be ignored, but I'll go into a final against Adelaide with a lot more hope of a win than I would against Hawthorn or Collingwood. Our run against them has been more like a curse where we've continuously found new and inventive ways to lose. I don't believe they're a better team than us and we should win.

Here's the deal,
Hawks win, Swans lose
Sydney v Adelaide at AAMI

Hawks win, Swans win
Sydney v Adelaide at ANZ

West Coast win, Swans win
Swans v West Coast at ANZ (we gain minor premiership)

West Coast win, Swans lose
Swans v Hawthorn at MCG

The last scenario is probably the worst of them all... just for the mere fact we'd have to play at the G against the premiership favourites. Ideal situation would be the third, most likely situation would be the first.

It was never going to be easy... :(

I'm trying to look on the bright side and I'm thinking, "at least we get Adelaide out of the way now rather than playing them in a Preliminary." Though, the prospect of playing Collingwood or Hawthorn isn't exactly welcome, either.

Whichever way it falls, we're going to have to do this the hard way.

Out of the teams/contenders I'd rather us play in a final it would go:
1) West Coast
2) Hawthorn
3) Adelaide
4) Collingwood

I've seen us play every game in Adelaide for the last 5 years and I've never felt like we were the worse team. The most disapointing game was the Adelaide game last year when we kicked ourselves out of it (was 9-21 or something stupid like that...) and it just rained and rained and rained all night. All of this when I managed to get some pretty good seats right behind goal and had a heap of friends over for the game... Dang it.

I wouldn't mind any of the outcomes apart from the Hawks @ the 'G first up, even then we're going to have to face another big scary premiership contender there at some point anyway... Not ideal but not the end of the world (remember, we can beat anyone anywhere :thumbsu:). However, my obvious bias is seeing the boys in Adelaide first week up close and personal!

I feel we can match it with Collingwood, Hawthorn, West Coast and Adelaide at any ground now after the last few weeks.

Sure it would've been nice to win those thrillers against Adelaide, Coll and Haw but we were eyeballs deep in all games and didn't need any luck like bad opposition goal kicking or umpiring.

Having said this, Collingwood and Adelaide are probably the teams that look the most in-consistant of the top 5.

Fck it ... fear NO ONE! I'm sick of reading this crap about preferred opponents or venues ... we're good enough to win this flag; whether we do is in our hands. Even if we happened to lose this weekend (which I don't think we will), the finals is a new season. We're due against both Adelaide and Collingwood. The Pies have hit a bad patch (and it should have been us inflicting that first big hit ... 9.16 ....phaaaarrrrrk!) and I can't see why we won't beat them or the Crows wherever we play. And I saw enough in the first 45 minutes on Saturday night to suggest we're capable of beating Hawthorn.

The fact is we have several issues to overcome ... if we don't, we won't deserve a shot at the premiership; if we do, we'll be worthy premiers. Fck the media "experts", fck the whingers on here, fck the Big Footy heroes who write us off year after year after year.

Well said.
We're equal first on points with one round to go. We got there because we're good enough - not because of a lottery draw.

One thing is for sure. If we rip in and get a 40 point lead, the boys will be more than mindful now about playing down to the wire.
