Good. Better to deal with this properly than try to do it in a rush. Particularly when there might be wider legal ramifications.

Absolutely pathetic. Don't worry Crows, you're only delaying the inevitable. Justice will be harsh.

They lose Tippett for nothing, that is their 'penalty'. That is MORE than enough. Lets be honest in an open market Tippett commands a top 5 pick. They lose him for zero.

Meh, we'll get our whacks I'm sure.

But this just reinforces what I've been saying all along. Despite being run by lawyers, the AFL runs on a system that has more legal holes than a Swiss cheese and it will only take one person to take them to court for the whole house of cards to come down.

Adelaide deserve time to prepare their defence. Every accused person or group deserves such a thing.

They are still likely to get smashed if found guilty.
I may be wrong but didn't Trigg or somebody from the Crows come forward and say that they did in fact have this secret deal in place?
Isn't that admitting guilt so what do they need to defend? That the cheating was negligent instead of intentional, that the cheating took place on the ball not behind play?

I wouldn't blame this administration solely for the allowance given to the Crows to go in the draft. The Oakley administration turned a blind eye to Carlton and Essendon's cheating to win 1993 and 1995 respectively and it wasn't until the Jackson era that the whopper punishment was handed out. Hopefully Adrian is using his good lawyer skills to allow natural justice to take place before implementing a penalty that could have ramifications for the AFL if found to be unmerited.

Is Tippett's case still being heard on Monday or is his also deferred? If his is deferred until after PSD it makes it a bigger risk for someone to draft him

The ND listing deadline has already come and gone, and he isn't in it. It's PSD or nought for Tippett now.

Fair enough and I was wondering whether they gave him special dispensation but yes PSD for Kurt.

"The delay has come at the request of Adelaide and its general manager of football operations Phil Harper, who asked for more time to prepare submissions.

Harper, the club, Crows CEO Steven Trigg and former general manager of football operations John Reid will each now be represented separately at the hearing.

An AFL statement said Harper, Trigg and Reid had only been able to instruct their new lawyers late this week."

Looks like The Corporation has told these three "You're on your own fellas" (and may the Devil take the hindmost)

Right decision. Adelaide will get their picks and time but will regret it for years to come.

The AFL is, I suspect seeking to bulletproof any decisions from appeal

If so, that's an individual club member admitting guilt but he in no way speaks for the whole club in this case. Even in the situations of damning evidence you still get your day in court. The club has decided to mount some kind of defence as is their right.

Sheesh, the new Carlton board had exactly a week to defend ourselves in 2002 and the AFL rushed the penalties through late on a Friday night with the draft a day or so away.

If anything, this could make the eventual punishment even harsher. Say, for example, if they got banned from the next 3 drafts. In 3 years, they probably won't be top 4, which removes them from a draft where they have better picks than this year.
