It's fair to say that the Foxtel ratings are substantially down on last year (an aggregate of 2 million in round 1 last year compared with about 1.5 million this year)

In regards to the discussion in the other thread, it certainly looks like the NRL and A League are both down as well this weekend which suggests that there had been a significant impact from the GO and the cricket

I know the A League has been affected by the lack of a contest for the top two spots but its 5 games this weekend averaged just 37k. Surely this is the worst ratings STV it has got for a round in the WSW era, Wookie?

fta total is down ~-4.6%, you averaged 2017 by 8 games instead of 9.

same issue with fta metro.

I wonder what caused the drop in STV ratings? More people watching on Telstra? the Grand Prix?

I reckon the Grand Prix and the cricket mainly I would think...also the fact that the arvo saturday game was pushed back to twilight would have meant more overlap than usual

...but the NRL was only down 11% on last year. It could also be having most the Vic teams play in Melbourne had an impact as well

He is comparing the averages

Last year every game in the first round was on FTA in at least one market but as one of the fox games involved two melbourne teams (Melbourne saints) it wasn't on FTA at all

Small sample group of one

I got rid of foxtel

I can't justify $1k a year just for fox footy

Went w AFL subscription instead

Can't watch live games, but have radio

Yep there was the Test Cricket,2 AFL matches, FI GP, RU, RL and,A League to choose from no wonder they are all down.

It's paywalled, but the Herald Sun is reporting the Western Force will be the team to be axed from Super Rugby.

Just on that last link that states a roar article claiming just 55,000 rugby players from a Roy Morgan poll, i have long thought Roy Morgan polls are just a waste of time.

Polling a few people by phone, gets you nowhere, the codes themselves have the correct numbers, or very close to it, if they are broken down via school, club, non club etc then that gives a great snapshot, not Roy Morgan.

Claytons poll would be a better name for Roy Morgan.

That's probably true as a general rule, although in this case, it's definitely tapping into what most rugby fans have been feeling deep down for a very long time.

Foxfooty should go to number 1 STV channel from this week. People watching replays and other programs on foxleague from Mon-Thurs may have got them over the line, where as this week Foxfooty will have all the previous weeks replays too for a like for like comparison.

Concerning if foxtel numbers drop off too much seeing as foxtel was mainly responsible for the massive increase in the last broadcast rights deal.
