You Bomber fans have never quite worked out that Dodo's longevity at the club despite his utterly abysmal record is because of two things:

1) He got a lot of important people really rich via his land dealings

2) He knows where all the doping bodies are buried.
Merry Christmas mate. Hope Santa brings you coal.

Not only is he the recruiter, he's also doing the land deals and overseeing the doping program?

He's a busy man.

Wow, you really don't know much do you?

Yes, he did the land deals.

No, he didn't do the doping.

That was James Hird.

A good video here which largely outlines what a brilliant job Dodoro has done in the face of the most difficult task ever set for a list manager in the AFL: the heaviest draft sanctions in the history of the game, combined with a long list of senior players (Ryder, Carlisle, Monfries, Crameri, Hibberd, Melksham, Saad, Fantasia, Daniher and others) demanding trades.

None of it was remotely his fault but at almost every step he has traded and drafted superbly. He's rebuilt a team that has a young core yet has still played finals in 3 of the 5 seasons since the suspensions, even while there's been coaching changes and further football department upheaval.

If you're going to give him the bat, you have to give him the praise too.

Plenty of problems at Essendon... if you think recruiting is one of them, you're a touch dense.

Would be interested to read how you came to that conclusion.

Didn’t watch the video but I’d say our biggest recruiting mistakes since 2012 are:

- Holding onto Daniher for the extra year. Like why? It was clearly not a good move for the team.

- Dylan Shiel trade. 2 firsts for a guy who isn’t a top 10 player in the comp is too much imo.

- Aaron Francis taken at pick 6

Big wins for him in the same period:

- Zach Merrett taken at pick 26

- AMT and Draper rookie drafts

- Saad trade x 2

- Stringer trade

- Hind trade

- Mid season draft success (Snelling & Durham)

Meh, trolls gonna troll

FWIW, there were a few 'gifts' in there too.

Keeping the number 1 pick.

All those blokes wanting out, turned out to be somewhat of a blessing. I don't think any were free agents, so clubs had to cough up for them. I'd say it definitely cost Essendon a finals win or two in the short term, but didn't have a long term impact. Probably the opposite.

And of course, there's the ever present lure of playing for a big club in Melbourne and getting to play on ANZAC Day, Dreamtime at the G, and all that shit.

I don't think Dodoro can claim any glory for guys like Stringer, Smith, Caldwell, Shiels etc. coming to the club. All were offered contracts by other clubs - but chose Essendon.

Without those guys (obviously Caldwell excluded), they wouldn't have played finals at all.

So although I agree that if you're going to pot him for Essendon's poor record over the past decade, he needs to get credit where it's due - I don't really think there is much credit due at all.

The main knock on Dodoro as far as I see it, is that he cuts off his nose to spite his face to 'win' trades, and that he seems more like a footy card collector than a List Manager.

To be fair, this year will tell the tale a bit better. But hype aside, there's very little for Dodoro to hang his hat on, I'd have thought.

I mean sure, if you ignore everything he's done successfully, he's done everything poorly.

No other club offered Stringer a deal
