All the signs leading up to Trade Week were of the Crows really taking control of their destiny with the appointment of a new CEO, coach, and assistants. Yet when it comes time to improving the te, it seems it's the Crows of old.

You do understand that this is the way Trade Period has gone for years ... nothing really to complain / cheer about until it's finished.

The last few days are where stuff happens.

If we can't get one of Lowden or Giles (not really fussed who), there's something seriously wrong that a club of drug cheats is more appealing.

I get the whole suspensions = more game time, but COME ON.

Truth is we probably suffer a bit of perception lag. To the BF Adelaide faithful its obvious the Roovolution is on and the club should be on the up. To everyone else we are still a club with a hopeless back of house and a coach no one has ever heard of, draft sanctioned to ****, perennially outside the 8 and, if you believe the Penberthy inspired Melbourne media version, a rabble run by a clique of players.

We won't shake any of that until our on field results turn around.

The aspersion that you casting on Melbourne is also being cast on young Jack himself. If anyone knew that he wasn't 100% over his injury, it's Jack himself. Are people seriously saying that Jack knew he was injured but was keeping that from his prospective new club. Would be dog act of the highest order (in AFL terms) and I'm very doubtful that it's the case.
Probably true - which is harsh on my side.
BUT, Melbourne put him up for trade didn't they? Jack wasn't the instigator was he?

I don't think he is a spud. That's a bit strong. He's obviously struggled to get many games in the Hawthorn backline. I do however think that he does not directly fill a need. We need a KPD, not another 6" 1.5" 3rd "tall". Yes, he is probably better than what we have, except Otten, but he really won't be improving our side very much. I'd rather see us go after what we need most, Ruck, KPD, fast outside mid. A 4th option for the 3rd tall in defence seems a low priority to me. If we're going to get him and we think he would be better than Shaw or LT, then maybe we should be looking at getting rid of at least one of them. The other point is I would like to see us promote and develop Jake Kelly, possibly for this role.
Agree that our priorities are Ruck, KPD, outside mid. However there is no reason why we can't target other needs as well.

Last year our preferred defensive 7 was typically: Talia, Rutten, Otten, Smith, Hendo, Jaensch, Brown.

If we want to shift Smith into the midfield, and with Rutten and Otten gone for 2015, we will need to replace 3 of our back 7 from: Hartigan, LT, Shaw, Siggins, Kelly, VB.

VB may take Smith's role, and Harto takes Rutten's. Still needing to play one of LT, Shaw, Siggins or Kelly each week.

I'd certainly agree that if we don't think LT or Shaw are ready yet to play as the 3rd tall, then I think one of them needs to be de-listed. Siggins and Kelly at least still have upside.

Unless it was the medical exam itself which caused the latest aggravation, Trengove and the MFC had to know. They'd be monitoring an injury like that on a daily basis, even in the off season.

So what would you have them do? Trade picks for the sake of it? Trade players for the sake of it. Get rid of Grigg or Lyons just so we can say we've had some trades. Seriously, give me one actual feasible trade that we could have/should have made but haven't yet.

Just because we haven't heard anything doesn't mean nothing is happening. Noble is a very smart operator and I'm sure he's cooking something up. It's also not 2014 Trade Period or bust. We might have things lined up for next year when player's contracts change up.

do you need to ask?

I've been pondering the defensive set up as well and think you are on the right track there. Good post :thumbsu:

Yep, and I'm keeping Shaw if it comes down to it. Still reckon if he can improve his kicking by 5-10% he will be good enough. At least he has dash, and a good leap/reach. I'm not sure Thompson showed enough in his games this year.

Would take Lowden. Should come cheaper.

Start with 68, then maybe go as far as 50 for Lowden+59
