As always stats and numbers show more than “the vibe” or our own biases. I will say that the frees differential with Adelaide in the SANFL is unarguable.
Magarey votes this year tells another story.
I’ve done a tally of the Top 10 vote getters this year, their votes, games played and divided the two to get votes per game.
Just as I thought, the obvious reason for Adelaide polling poorly is because of games played.
Crouch polling by far the most votes per game than anyone.

Magarey Top Ten

23 Young- 19 Games 1.21 Votes/game

22 Rokahr- 19 - 1.15

21 Knight- 17 - 1.23

21 Voss- 19 - 1.10

18 Snook- 19 - 0.94

17 Boyd- 20 - 0.85

16 Battersby- 19 - 0.84

16 Wigg- 18 - 0.88

15 Combe- 19 - 0.79

14 Wilson- 12 - 1.16

ADELAIDE PLAYERS

13 Crouch- 8 games - 1.62 votes/game

9 Hateley- 6 - 1.5

9 Strachan- 19 - 0.47
Strachan ripped off massively. Should rarely go a game without getting a vote. Plenty of 2 and 3 vote games amongst them too.

Led the league in contested marks and ranking points, second for hit outs and averaged 17 disposals, 6 marks, 3.6 clearances, 4.2 i50s, 3.5 tackles and kicked 11 goals from 19 games.
At the same time he was playing in a winning side in most games.

The league is a joke.. its clear there is a directive from the top to ensure the crows and port AFL players are marked more strictly when it comes to the magarey and both clubs are umpired against more harshly.

And given neither club makes a single drop of noise about it ever… they are clearly happy with the arrangement

In other words they see the league, and their games in it, as mostly a training and developement opportunity for their youth and not as a competition that they are really interested in winning.

Which is all good but makes for frustrating viewing for us supporters that pay our yearly subscription to watch the games and want to see our team win by completely smashing every opponent into the ground!

Since we joined the SANFL we have a -498 free kick differential, the next "worse" SANFL club is Norwood with -84.

Billy gets a $750 fine for flipping the bird to some knuckle heads, Moore gets a $125 for bumping Pedlar in the head.

Seems legit, no bias here whatsoever - happy to take our cash but don't want us in their competition.

It's your time to shine Olsen.

Adelaide defender Josh Worrall, who has played 33 matches in the SANFL said action needed to be taken against unruly fans for the betterment of the competition.

“The abuse I have copped from the sideline this season has been unacceptable,” Worrell said.

“It is time the league took a stand on these fans who come to the footy and do the wrong thing because umpires feel the pressure and it has an impact on them.”

Another player, who wanted to remain anonymous, said the umpiring was “blatantly” impacted.

The Crows reserves side this season, which finished second on the ladder, have lost the free kick count in all games except for two.

In 2019, shocking statistics revealed Adelaide, since entering the SANFL competition, had the worst free kick differential at -498.

Port Adelaide were ranked second bottom at -307.

The next-ranked team was Norwood at -84.

Without being able to read the entire article..

Does it mention that anyone from the club is asking these questions too or atleast backing these players?.. Godden?, Roo?, Nicksy?, Olsen?..

If not, Why the fxxk is it being left to our players to have to go to the media with this?..

Why is no one from the clubs management/football department demanding the SANFL make changes and sort this shit out?..

Like I said.. I cant read the entire article so I may be missing any comments the club may have made that are captured in the article.. but I would find it very strange that players have felt they need to go to the media with this behind the clubs back..

The sooner we leave this stale backwater of a league the better.

The AFL needs to create a national reserves comp.

The AFL needs to create a national reserves comp.
Adelaide and Port Adelaide players have called for the SANFL to take control of the prejudice towards their reserve teams amid claims of unfair fan behaviour and umpiring.
Several AFL contracted players – on and off record – have voiced their frustration with some claiming the fan behaviour was putting pressure on umpires to the point where their decision making was impacted.
Players said the unfair treatment stemmed from 2014 when the Crows and Power entered reserves teams and SANFL clubs lost access to AFL contracted players.
Many angry fans were opposed to AFL clubs playing in the competition and, for some, that fury exists to this day and creates a divide.
Worrell said supporters needed to remember most of the AFL contracted players in the reserve side were under the age of 20 or were yet to debut at senior AFL level.

Port Adelaide ruckman Sam Hayes said the opposition towards AFL players playing in the SANFL was adding extra pressure on umpires.

“The umpire goes to the game, he has to focus on his job but then he has got those guys yelling from the sideline,” Hayes said.
“A lot of stuff can get thrown at them so they have got to deal with a lot of things.

“I think it certainly affects them for sure.”

Hayes said he had copped unfair treatment recalling a game against Central Districts where fans spat on him and abused his side as they walked off.

In Adelaide’s qualifying final on August 28 this season, Billy Frampton was fined $750 for ‘flipping the bird’ to a spectator, which Crows SANFL coach Mick Godden described as a “great interaction”.
Fans made complaints to the SANFL in 2018 after offensive and abusive comments towards players, most notably Power-listed midfielder Sam Powell-Pepper, were made and supporters were investigated by the SANFL.

The league warned supporters at the time and closed its investigation into some unruly incidents as they were unable to identify any offenders.
In 2019, Hamish Hartlett opened up accusing the SANFL of being biased after Billy Frampton and Aidyn Johnson were both offered bans for separate striking incidents.

“Could the SANFL make it any more obvious that they don’t want us to win a premiership?” Hartlett wrote on Facebook.

“Free kick counts are a disgrace (for both AFL reserves teams) every week, now suspensions for minor indiscretions like these. Pathetic.”

Worrell is set to be included in this week’s Adelaide reserve side which take on Norwood in a preliminary final this Sunday at Adelaide Oval.

The SANFL has been contacted for comment.

Since the appalling umpiring has been occurring since we joined the league it's impossible to say the umpires are just "incompetent" or "bad" or whatever

There is no way by chance that a fair but bad group of umpires would give out the sort of historic free kick discrepancy that we've copped year after year. The odds would have to be very, very low.

It's a deliberate, unfair, targeted effort against the club. Simple as that.

The article doesn't mention anything official from the clubs.

When you break the article down it really is three separate stories. Worrell is complaining that he has been abused by fans to an unacceptable degree. An anonymous player (unclear whether it is Port or Crows) is complaining that the umpires are influenced by the fans and give biased decisions. And then some stats from 2019 are presented along with a snarky Facebook post from Hamish Hartlett.

So it sounds like there is nothing formal, just that a few players have individually made comments at separate times.

I'm surprised they didn't also include David Koch's words from a month ago where he outright states that the rules are applied differently for Port and Crows than for any other SANFL clubs:

"There’s always talk of national reserves comps coming out," Kochie said.

"We play under much stricter rules, as everyone would know, in the SANFL, than any other SANFL club, the Crows and ourselves.

"We’ve got to assess whether those rules allow us to develop our players the way that we want them to, and there’s, I think, question marks over that."

Time we have a reserves comp, big media deal done, cashed up. Can fly the whole list around the country. Play the reserves before the main game and open the gates 15min before reserves start
That’d be perfect.. the crowd as they arrive can get rev’ed up by the watching the reserves side..

Stadiums get to sell more beer and food.

And I’d pay an extra $10 a month on my Kayo subscription to help accomodate it too..

I wouldnt need to pay for my $80 SANFL Plus Pass that I buy each year so it would pretty much work out even for me..

Better quality development for our youth.. and they also get used to interstate playing and travelling..

Whats not to like about it?..

Absolutely time for a reserves comp.

You could actually see some of the players, particularly in the 2nd half against North on the weekend, were exasperated at some of the umpires decision making. Not 50/50 calls, just 100% obvious free kicks that we're going our way. Not only did North get absolutely kissed on the d!ck by the umpires, they had decisions go their way in crucial areas of the ground, creating goal-scoring opportunities.

Reserve's games on Kayo, that is a big yes!

Us die-hards will watch reserves football but no one else will

If there was any commercial merit to it then there'd already be one
When I followed Westies ....never missed the reserves game or a League game

If I still resided in ADEL .....I'd still watch every Crows SANFL game ....nothing better, than watching the next wave of kids play .....and Crowies get to go Free

It was actualky one of the first times I’ve seen our players actually get angry at the umpires decisions.

Its always massively biased against us week to week but that game against north on the weekend was just about as blatant as it gets..

The fact our club officially says absolutely nothing about it.. and the players instead have taken it upon themselves to say something via the media.. tells me the club really couldnt give a shit about the results. They see the league as a development and training tool.

Anyone that reaches the top level of their chosen sport does so because they are mad competitors who cant stand losing. Even if its a friendly match!.

it must be so frustrating for them to have a crowd abusing them, opposition players that they know they are better than up in their faces and they can’t win a the game and rub it back in their faces because the umpires have basically rigged the result.

The North team got atleast 4-5 goals handed straight to them off the back of umpiring decisions and non-decisions. Theres the game right there.

It has to be a directive from the SANFL.. theres no way the umpires would do that on their own..

Everybody knows it's a directive. The broadcaster hiding the free kick count and not mentioning poor decisions when they go against us is proof enough.

The end justifies the means apparently.

I can guarantee the feedback will be '' the AFL teams (Adelaide and Port) play under two umpiring systems and therefore there will be some lag and confusion - which is shown in the FK discrepancy''
No doubt but aren't the only 2 rules that are officiated differently the 25m instead of 50m and the last touch free kick rule instead of the boundary ball ins?
