Absolutely time for a reserves comp.

You could actually see some of the players, particularly in the 2nd half against North on the weekend, were exasperated at some of the umpires decision making. Not 50/50 calls, just 100% obvious free kicks that we're going our way. Not only did North get absolutely kissed on the d!ck by the umpires, they had decisions go their way in crucial areas of the ground, creating goal-scoring opportunities.
Yep. Don't think there was 1 of the Crows' 13 free kicks within 60 metres of goal. North kicked 3 goals from dodgy frees and every 50/50 decision went against us.
Timely that this has surfaced now. Might make the cheating maggots think twice about business as usual on Sunday.
Won't bet on it though.

The umpiring in the Sanfl is utter garbage to both reserves teams and its about time the Sanfl were embarrassingly called out. Whats the best this weekend, the Crows get a dream run....much to Rowies disgust.
nope… the SANFL will be working on a Norwood v North GF..

Lock it in..

When I followed Westies ....never missed the reserves game or a League game

If I still resided in ADEL .....I'd still watch every Crows SANFL game ....nothing better, than watching the next wave of kids play .....and Crowies get to go Free
Look Kramer Wayne, let me explain something to you. You see, you're not normal. You're a great guy, I love you, but - - you're a football nuffy.

Obviously the umpiring is a deliberate ploy by the SANFL, but I actually don’t mind too much.

It sone ways it can be helpful to development.

Can understand our players frustrations though.

Was kinda thinking the same thing. A bit like Bowling practice using 1 stump. But then I thought about the players taking the reserves games seriously and I'm sure I'd get somewhat disheartened and disinterested if B.S decisions went against me every time I went near the ball. Not ideal for development.

Anyone thing this kinda shenanigans doesn't occur at higher Levels?

There's no commercial viability, especially with the financial burden COVID put on the league, for a national AFL reserves competition.

Additionally, the SANFL is still the 2nd best league in the country and the benefit the AFC and Port get from developing players in it is one of the few advantages both sides have over (most of) the rest of the comp. In turn, the SANFL would 100% lose any form of relevance and become a glorified amateur league if Port and Adelaide removed themselves.

The issue is that the deal we signed up to (which Olsen as SANFL President was responsible for) was ridiculous and designed purely to prevent any kind of on-field success, despite everyone's concerns about 'integrity of the competition' at the time.

The best result for all parties is to sort this out and realise it is to everyone's mutual advantage to find a way that keeps both teams in the SANFL, by allowing them to compete fairly for the premiership each year. Otherwise, everyone loses.

VFL is a stronger Comp nowadays unfortunately..

Everybody knows it's a directive. The broadcaster hiding the free kick count and not mentioning poor decisions when they go against us is proof enough.

The end justifies the means apparently.
To be fair tim ginever was commentating on the tv and even he mentioned we were getting on the wrong end of a few decisions

The article doesn't mention anything official from the clubs.

When you break the article down it really is three separate stories. Worrell is complaining that he has been abused by fans to an unacceptable degree. An anonymous player (unclear whether it is Port or Crows) is complaining that the umpires are influenced by the fans and give biased decisions. And then some stats from 2019 are presented along with a snarky Facebook post from Hamish Hartlett.

So it sounds like there is nothing formal, just that a few players have individually made comments at separate times.

I'm surprised they didn't also include David Koch's words from a month ago where he outright states that the rules are applied differently for Port and Crows than for any other SANFL clubs:
Yeah - it happens in all sports. officials might go with the appealing home fans in a 50/50 call more often.
And when you make Adelaide travel every game.
Or you have less passionate Adelaide/Port fans turn up as it's a ressies game and nothing more, they're not as vocal.

It is commercially viable for us, the $460-$500k fee we currently pay the SANFL would cover the costs of 20 weeks of travel and that is presuming the AFL charge us for our opponents traveling.

Just some of the benefits to OUR team:
  • travelling as a whole squad - makes the playing list feel more as one, less "us & them" our club has been plagued with.
  • gets the youngsters into the routine of travel, preparing and playing footy at AFL venues.
  • playing to the same rules (and same inconsistent interpretations) in reserves and seniors.
  • being able to recruit the best available "top ups" if the AFL dont increase list sizes.
  • playing against similar skilled/developing opposition.

Some of the reasons to stay in the SANFL
  • the SANFL would lose any form of relevance.
  • Ummmmmmmm

Is this true though?

Victorian clubs seem to have no issues developing talent in the VFL, there are lots of very good mature agers taken from that league and IMO the Victorian system is far better at developing juniors than the SANFL pathway.

The "standard" of the league argument is questionable as well given that 14 of 21 VFL clubs have AFL listed players, compared to 2 of 10 in the SANFL

That reason/excuse doesn't stack up when you consider Port Power is just behind our differential at -307, they play their games at Alberton.

Surely you're not suggesting that the few South supporters attending a match at Alberton are more vocal then the Port supporters.

Not even the biggest SANFL apologist would suggest that is true.

It's OK to recognise the SANFL umpires are cheats, you can try and spin it however you like but the facts speak for themselves.

AFL teams in the SANFL are mostly younger players who have less experience, less disciplined, so are more likely to give away free kicks. Whether that's a lack of awareness getting tackled. Not adapting to different rule interpretations etc.

This is complete bullshit

I happened to catch some of MMM last night, and Bernie Vince said the free kick differential for Crows over the year was -400 and something, and Port's was -300 and something.

I don't give two hoots either way, but that is ridiculous, and there is only one way that happens, and that is by instruction.

EDIT: saw someone else has posted these stats a few days ago, and I obviously only heard some of the conversation as thought it was over the year, not over all years in SANFL
