Even worse....how the f*ck can Melbourne escape and keep their draft picks....seems we're going to pay a very high price when far worse is happening elsewhere.
Because that would mean that they would lose an up and coming superstar in Viney and their other low draft picks...Dont forget they have been harsh on Melbourne before, which Demetriou was regretful of...They will probably lose draft picks next year when they have less to lose...But if the roles were reversed, and we were the ones accused of tanking, I would almost bet my house on the ridiculously Vic biased AFL stripping us of getting an up and coming superstar. Thank goodness we got Couch last year...which will make the pain of losing early draft picks this year a little easier to accept.

Sorry to intrude but this will be an interesting test for the AFL. Do they go hard or soft on Melbourne, a club which is on its knees and of course a Vic based club?

Then do they treat Adelaide with equal measure?

I am convinced the AFL will not give Adelaide a fair hearing.

They have not gone soft on Melbourne yet. To many people seem to think, and get wrong, that the investigation has been going for months. It only just reopended recently when new evidence came to light. Melbourne only got away with punishment in this years draft due to the fact the investigation is not yet complete. You cannot just rush a punishment before all facts are gathered. And with Melbourne looking likely to challenge the AFL, you wouldnt want to come out with a weak case either. We shall wait and see what happens before we assume the AFL has gone soft on them. Mind you, my gut feeling is Melbourne will get away with it.

AFC only reported the special Tippett contract when it became obvious to all that something stunk with the Tippett trade.

It's like a little kid admitting to stealing chocolates from a shop, in a local park with chocolate all over his face.

Bottom line is we never disclosed the contract at the time nor when the rumours started surfacing 18 months ago.

Further, we had a chance to clean-up the mess last year with a trade to the Lions.

We backed ourselves in against a mercenary.

AFC have shown poor judgement in breaking the rules & impotentant in their Tippett dealings, desparate to keep him at all costs.

Someone must pay the price if found guilty as expected.

....Trading with the Lions....which we did try to do...only they played hard-ball....which in retrospect was still a far better situation than we're now in. I do trust we have all our legal eagles in tow when fronting up next week. The sheer fact that some sort of dodgy deal got done without having it properly vetted is beyond my comprehension. I do agree with your last point though....although I hope it's not as severe a penalty as some are suggesting.

You are right how bad is this and going to end .
Vlad has swept the Melbourne tanking under the carpet on numerous occasions and now has to face it and gloss it somehow to save face but still appear to be strong re the rules , so looks like we will get it both barrels.
How the hell do they still be allowed to be in drafts etc where we only misled but they actually rigged matches .
Question really is this really the decision time or will we have to wait days after meeting .
Why also is it dragged out till next monday as lets face it everyone has been working on it for weeks .
Why is not Blucher being involved in all this .

How is this groundbreaking news exactly? Yes, this will finally all end next Monday, but no one actually knows the results of the investigation yet besides the AFL and the AFC. Everyone knew charges would be laid, how is this earth shattering news?

Club statement:
http://www.afc.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/4417/newsid/151003/default.aspx

Pretty sure this is the most concrete news we have heard over the past few weeks and everything else has only been rumoured. It is news because the charges have officially been laid and a date is set for us to be bent over.

The thing that annoys me the most from the AFC is this statement:

"Throughout the past three years and the recent trading period it was always the Club’s intention to comply fully with all AFL rules on the draft and player payments".

This is totally a load of crap as they have been charged with draft and salary cap breaches which they knew at the time they would have been breaching the rules or else they would have submitted everything to be signed off.

If the AFC truly believe that statement then on Monday or Tuesday we should be let off all charges but if found guilty then that is just another lie to AFC supporters and the AFL community.

This is the first time I have heard about the following:

Tippett has lodged a legal claim against Adelaide for inducing him to enter into an unlawful agreement with the club – an agreement struck in a bid to prevent the then 22-year-old from committing to Gold Coast. That claim remains on hold until next week's hearings have been completed. The AFL investigation into the Crows was completed last week after Anderson's investigative team finished its exhaustive search through the club's files and computer records.

Not his management team, his Daddy. Who do you think is gonna foot the bill for full blown legal proceedings?

Someone must pay the price if found guilty as expected.

They will make an example of all that is guilty in this, they would be incompetent and not very serious about their equality policies they rave about. Reality is we deserve all we get for allowing us to put in this position by arseholes who only care about money..

This whole drama is not unique, probably dozens and dozens of dodgy negotiations like this have transpired. AFL can put the wind up people here, and so they should.

His wage earning capacity is effected, this is quite a natural step for dodgy kents. It would be out of character if he did not.

He's just trying to save his own ass and prevent getting deregistered.

* In 1996, Essendon were fined a record $638,250 ($250,000 in back tax and penalties, $112,000 for draft tampering and $276,250 for breaching the salary cap regulations), forfeited their first, second and third round picks in the National Draft and were excluded from the 1997 rookie and pre-season drafts after a joint Australian Tax Office and AFL investigation found that they had committed serious and systematic breaches of the salary cap regulations totalling $514,500 between 1991 and 1996.

* In 1998, the West Coast Eagles were fined $100,000 and forfeited their third round pick in the National Draft after it was found that they had exceeded the salary cap by a total of $165,000 during the 1997 and 1998 seasons.

I can see the crows getting a fine and draft picks some where between these two.

I would expect a large part of it to be suspended but who knows.

In 1992, Sydney were fined $50,000 after it was found that they had failed to disclose payments made to former player Greg Williams during the 1990 season; Williams was suspended for six matches and fined the maximum of $25,000 for accepting the payments.

I would expect something similar for Tippett, except the fine will be 200k+

I would expect and I'm not qualified or in the know of all details, that whatever the penalty is, is to an extent that no other club dare go threw this shit we are.

I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

The ESS fine was about 300K for a 500K breach, so 60%, the WCE was 100K for a 160K breach so about 66%, so for Adelaide's 200K max breach we should get about 120K max fine?

We "induced" him into an agreement? He had to agree to it, and had other options waiting for him all over the country if he didn't. Induced my arse.

A few people in the media with direct links to the AFC have repeatedly said that the club is very strong in it's assertion that we did not initiate the clause. Let's hope there is some means by which they can prove / demonstrate that.
