They play the hawks in week 5 ^^ (they play us this week but I don't think we count as a tough opponent, especially not at skilled)
Should be a good game, and round.

Richmond and Collingwood both need a victory to prove their value in the 8
Carlton will want to beat Melbourne thats for sure
Port needs to bounce back, and rightly should against the Lions
GWS Vs Bulldogs is 50/50 (I'd love to watch this one)
Geelong Vs WEst Coast - Good test here
Hawks should account for GCS
Sydney Vs North is a must win game for the Kangas, they must keep winning games if they're to prove their worth
Adelaide Vs Saints (Cracker game here, Adelaide will be desperate to win, but Saints are playing well given their list)
Essendon Vs Freo (Essendon should win here, but will dockers bounce back)

Looks like a good round, I think this is going to be one of those seasons thats going to take 10-12 rounds to sort out the contenders from the pretenders.

This is what I had pre-season:

Hawthorn

Sydney

Fremantle

Collingwood

Geelong

Richmond

Essendon

West Coast

North Melbourne

Carlton

Port Adelaide

Western Bulldogs

Gold Coast

Adelaide

Melbourne

Brisbane

St. Kilda

GWS

still living in hope for that predicted slide are we :)

Well like it or not, it has happened

You were at your strongest 07-09. I thought you hung on in 11 to win the flag, but the earlier years were stronger. And you've declined slowly since. All credit to Geelong for being up there for so long.

My main point was that so far.

They've beaten
Adelaide who have conceded 126 points average. 0-3. (38 pts)
Brisbane 115ppg conceded 0-3 (25 pts)
Collingwood - Who are looking mediocre, smashed by freo, ran over Sydney(Who are traveling poorly)

Its way too early to look at a few games and make strong conclusions in most cases, except things like, Melbourne and Brisbane finishing bottom 4. And Hawthorn finishing top 4. I'm not sure on Geelong, until I've seen more matches. So far, the matches havne't given us a true indication on Geelongs form.

It was dangerous for us (port) to look at the first two rounds and think we were really good.

The reality is, we've beaten two sides who are 0-3 and those games were soft. Then we come up against The kangas, in a hard game, and we got beaten.

happy to be proven wrong, start with Adelaide this week.

Give us a break. We've actually been highly competitive and motivated. Played nicely against West Coast on their ground and beat GWS who beat Sydney, etc. We will probably end up bottom 4 but to say that we won't win another game for the rest of the year is foolish and simple-minded of you.

yeh I had a feeling North would beat Port for what it's worth. Was surprised they took as long as they did to eventually get the lead on the back of a couple unfortunate injuries to Wingard and Monfires mid-game which placed a little more heat on the bench rotations to keep up with the pace of the 4th quarter.

Agree with your assumptions as it's far too early to start predicting things even after 5 or so rounds in. Not sure about Hawthorn certainties for top 4 though as they do face their bogey team in Richmond who will improve in the next month while also contending with Sydney and Geelong so if they do happen to win all 3 of those, they should almost be set for top 4 heading into the second half of the season but as with all teams, only takes 2 losses to fall right back into the pack again.
Hawthorn look ultra impressive though. They look like they're still fine tuning their game. And Essendon look like they're ripping sides apart. Almost as if they have the opposition play book.

Essendon have been doing this for...how many years now? They burst out of the blocks and then stall midway through the year. That likely doesn't happen this season but there will certainly come a point where they dip and drop a few games here and there as it's almost possible to play the same game plan all the way through as teams adapt.
I'm personally more worried about Fremantle than Hawthorn, I'm unsure how Port Adelaide supporters feel about both teams but to me, Fremantle have something like 9 out of their next 12 at Subiaco oval so they will start upping up their game as the year draws to a close while I cannot see Hawthorn getting that much better than what they have already produced, in particular, that game on Friday night.

I don't like using that argument on essendon. The only reason they lost out last year was the drugs saga. They were destined to be top 4 without that shit.

Hawks are too good not to be top 4. Fremantle will be touch and go 3-6 range, depending on other sides.

Interestingly, if West Coast aren't the real deal, and if Geelong drop off a little bit, and that 4th spot is up for grabs. Who gets it? will be very interesting. It could be got with 15+ wins. Sides like North/Port and of course Gelong could be pushing for the 4th spot.

Anyone claiming Geelong have started to slide has lost their minds and has absolutely zero to back it up.

They were a kick away from a Grand Final last year and are 3-0. Would take that kind of slide every day of the week.
I said I needed a few more rounds to decide, I'm not convinced they've beaten any strong sides yet. Hey, in reality all good things come to an end. Gotta happen some day.

Jamie Macmillan broke his ankle 5 minutes after Monfries went off. Wingard came back on and played. They were arguably full strength also. We however, were missing Swallow, Ziebell and Tarrant.

In the scheme of things though, the players you substituted for your missing players are still good players. Wouldn't have made a lot of dfference. Its not basketball where one player makes a supermassive impact.

Who would you replace for Boak and Wingard? Are they a step down??

Its obviously a loss, but someone steps up. Thats what a good team, with depth does. If there are 2-3-4 stars out, you're gonna be in strife, no matter who you are.

in the case of Boak and Wingard, someone steps up, and Someone like Young or Stewart come in.
