Harvey though is your team Achilles heel, pardon the pun :p. If he does not play you guys struggle to win. IMO you guys are that improvement away from being a consistent finals side. I am not hoping for Boomer gets injured, all i am saying is that you guys will go up a level of maturity when your team does not lose its competitive edge if boomer does not play.

I don't know about this. Boomer may have been the difference in some of those first 6 games but I wouldn't say we struggled to win without him. We just generally start slow and obviously there was that whole losing close games thing that went on for the whole of 2013...Regardless, the only injury Boomer has had in recent years was after he got chicken-winged so if he keeps his fists to himself he should play 22+ games.

Lets hope so. Would be interesting to see how many games you have won when he has been out suspended/injured.

Pretty easy to do, as I said, he's really only had two incidents that have caused him to miss games in the last 15 years. In 2009 he missed rounds 6-12 and we went 2-5 (we won 5 of the 15 games he played in that year) and in 2013 he missed rounds 1-6 and we went 2-4 (we won 8 of the 16 games he played in). Doesn't seem like a big difference to me.

Just trying to make sure I am clear.

in 09 when he missed 6 games you won 2 of those ?

in 13 when he missed 6 games you won 2 ?

So in 12 games he missed you guys only won 4 but when he played you won close to 50% of the time, that right ?

Good list. Well done.

By the way, I've seen the "they'll miss Swallow" comment a lot in this thread. Given it was reported as recently as last week that he is aiming for Round 1 (though I personally wouldn't be surprised to see this delayed to round 4-5ish), I don't see his injury having a significant impact on our year.

I always get nervous with achilles and return times; traditionally its a twelve month layoff.

That said, in the NBL, Damian Martin of Perth tore his achilles in G2 of the semi-finals last season, made it back for round 1 this season, so it can happen.

2009 with boomer: won 33% of games
2009 without boomer: 29%

2013 with boomer: 50%
2013 without boomer: 33%

To me it seems like it was much of a muchness in 2009 and the 2013 differential can be explained by the fact that in the games we played without him 83% of our games were against Top 8 sides (compared with 38% for the games he actually played in).

Having injured my Achilles before so do I.

Swallow might be back by Round 1 or Round 5 but not sure when he'll get back to his best. I know he's a different build but J.Roughead didn't get back to his best until 2013 after his 2011 Achilles Rupture.

You can't call Longer a dud he showed some good signs at AFL level. Rucks don't even come good until 25 years old.

Also I'd like to see how Polec goes after his first full preseason. Never got the chance at Brisbane due to injury.

He showed nothing at AFL level. Didn't show much in the neafl either. You'd expect a first round pick to dominate the reserves and push for a seniors spot (grundy and kreuzer for example). Longer has had 2 years in the ressy's and hasn't shown much at all, and he's been playing in a very weak league

He's a 20 year old ruckman. He'd be doing very well if he was "showing something" at AFL level any time in the next couple of years. Todd Goldstein (who I consider one of the better ruckman in the league today) hadn't even made his debut at Longer's age.

1. Fremantle - Ross Lyon will have to get one sooner or later
2. Sydney - They have a great side and will be hungry
3. Tigers - I'm expecting them to have a great year but lose 2 of 3 finals
4. Geelong - Still a solid side
5. Hawthorn - Premiership blues
6. Essendon - I'm hoping
7. North - Decent run at it this year
8. Collingwood - Cloke needs to stay fit
9. Eagles - Will have a good year and may make the eight
10. Carlton - Still a solid team but there are some holes at each end
11. Suns - Will continue to improve
12. Crows - They can make the eight as well if everything goes right
13. Port - Will drop after last year
14. Bulldogs - I'm hoping that they do a bit better than this but there are still a lot of major issues in the team
15. Demons - Paul Roos will get them winning... a bit
16. Giants - On the way up
17. Lions - Looking like a really poor year. They don't have much going for them
18. Saints - I don't know why but I can see them finishing last

If Goldstein played his first 2 seasons in the neafl he would of been tearing it up

Picking us third, I applaud you sir.

Saying we will lose 2 out of 3 finals, well, I curse you to the deepest, blackest pit of despair. You must now live in Adelaide :p

Port has one of the youngest teams, and yet posters are predicting they'll get worse with experience? Obviously I'm biased, I'm predicting they'll beat last year's 5th spot. It's a bit odd, but stranger things have happened. I think that Geelong and Collingwood will drop this year, and North Melbourne shan't make the recovery that many are predicting.

  1. Sydney
  2. Fremantle
  3. Richmond
  4. Port Adelaide
  5. Hawthorn
  6. Carlton
  7. Essendon
  8. Adelaide
  9. Geelong
  10. Gold Coast
  11. West Coast
  12. North Melbourne
  13. Collingwood
  14. Greater Western Sydney
  15. Western Bulldogs
  16. Melbourne
  17. St Kilda
  18. Brisbane
Brownlow will go to Dangerfield.

Haha... If you're going to make up stories, atleast make them believable

Sorry my bad. Longer averaged 39 hit outs a game. He had over 40 hit outs 5 times during the year, not to mention 58 in the GF.
You're the one who said he was a dud and couldn't get near it in a shit league. You are wrong.

My prediction;

1. Hawthorn
2. Sydney
3. Fremantle
4. Richmond
5. Collingwood
6. Geelong
7. North Melbourne
8. Gold Coast
9. Port Adelaide
10. Essendon

Why should I believe a thing you say after you lied In your previous post

Brisbane won't go up or down the ladder, will be the same as last year.
