AFL 2014 Ladder Predictions

With most team lists starting to take place I think we can start predictions for 2014 ladder positions. I feel the tide is starting to change in the competition and a fair few teams that have been down the ladder for a while will finally awake from their slumber.

1. NORTH MELBOURNE- Very unlucky on many occasions in 2013 against the top sides. With a fit and firing midfield I think the sleeping giant at Arden St will awake at last.

2. ESSENDON- Showed glimpses of a top four side over the last two years. Haven't lost many players and Mark Thompson knows how to coach to a premiership. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

3. HAWTHORN- Would be disrespectful not to put the reigning premiers at least in the Top four. Don't think they will go back to back though.

4. SYDNEY- Premiership window is still wide open. Will have to be at their best all the time and not be injury riddled though to win the grand final.

5. CARLTON- Mick Malthouse will drive the Blues to their best season in years.

6. PORT ADELAIDE- Should be on par with 2013 performance.

7. RICHMOND - Should be thereabouts.

8. MELBOURNE- Think the Dees will finally turn their fortunes. Roos and co have been working hard on recruiting during the offseason and the results should return a much improved season. The fairytale of the season.

9. FREMANTLE- I just don't believe the Dockers will back up from 2013. I do hope I'm proven wrong as I have a soft spot for them.

10. GEELONG- If they prove me wrong and make Top 4 again they are definitely the greatest team of all at Kardinia Park.

11. GOLD COAST- Just don't think they have the firepower to win pressure games. Will go close to finals though.

12. GWS- Dramatic improvement with some good offseason recruitment.

13. WESTERN BULLDOGS- 2015 will be their breakthrough year.

14. ADELAIDE- No longer the pride of South Australia.

15. WEST COAST- New coach and loss of experience will see the Eagles struggle.

16. COLLINGWOOD- Think the Pies have some off field issues that might boil over. Can't see them improving. Will struggle for the first time in years.

17. BRISBANE- Mass exodus of players isn't for no reason. The lions are in for a long year.

18. ST KILDA- Poor old St Kilda :(

PREMIER- ESSENDON

RUNNER UP- NORTH MELBOURNE

BROWNLOW- Jack Ziebell North Melbourne

FIRST COACH TO BE SACKED- Scott Watters St Kilda

COLEMAN MEDAL- Jeremy Cameron GWS

STORY OF THE YEAR- AGAINST ALL ADVERSITY THE BOMBERS OVERCOME NORTH IN BEST GRAND FINAL THIS CENTURY.

Well you got one thing right, Watters got sacked first haha

Going to be very even across all teams I think, the whole ladder could change a lot! Melbourne and St Kilda are both unlucky finishing in my bottom 2 as Melbourne will improve with Paul Roos and a new structure, a couple of nice pick ups too. St Kilda picked up super well in the draft too, Watters has bugged them though, McEvoy they should have kept, Longer and Hickey should still do alright though, what are your thoughts, thanks?

Ok now all the drafts and trading and draw is over...

If Richmond finish top and Brisbane finish last, I'll support Melbourne Demons for the rest of my life.

No chance of either event happening.

My ladder prediction was made for you.

There's definitely a chance that can happen by the way, or would you be happier if I made my prediction a replica of this years ladder?

Perhaps a little low for Carlton, but the competition is so fierce now that someone with a chance at finals had to be that low. I chose them because I feel that Judd has to be on the decline, and they are far from finding a functioning forward line.
North and Adelaide are the big movers, primarily because they have lists very worthy of top 8 material, and the hunger has to be there after missing out the year after a breakthrough performance.
Unfortunately, I can't see Essendon hanging on for a whole season. Also, I feel that Port doesn't have the necessary depth to cope with possible injuries, and I don't buy into the whole Chad Wingard hype.

1. Hawthorn - will be thereabouts
2. Fremantle - ditto
3. Richmond - think they're finally on the verge of success in the next few years
4. Geelong - if our younger guys step up
5. Sydney - have a feeling they'll disappoint
6. Carlton - should start to see results in MM's 2nd year, underrated list
7. Port Adelaide - don't think they'll drop off like many are predicting
8. Essendon - don't think they're capable of mixing it with the big boys

9. Collingwood - in transition
10. North - overrated
11. Adelaide - not quite good enough, rely too heavily on a handful of players
12. West Coast - average midfield, not enough depth
13. Bulldogs - another year away from moving up the ladder
14. Gold Coast - overrated
15. Melbourne - should be more competitive next season under Roos
16. St Kilda - in for a few years of pain
17. Brisbane - see St Kilda
18. GWS - too inexperienced to move up the ladder yet

1) Hawthorn
2) Sydney
3) Fremantle
4) Richmond
5) Geelong
6) North Melbourne
7) Port Adelaide
8) West Coast

9) Collingwood
10) Essendon
11) Gold Coast
12) Adelaide
13) Carlton
14) Western Bulldogs
15) Brisbane
16) GWS
17) Melbourne
18) St Kilda

1) Sydney - Already had a great defence and midfield and now have one of the best forward lines in the comp. Will massacre some teams.
2) Fremantle - Class all over the field and have added Sylvia to the mix. Could pip Sydney for the premiership.
3) Geelong - Can never be underestimated. Kersten should slot nicely into their forward line and they have the quality youngsters to fill in for those who have left.
4) Hawthorn - Still a very good side, but Buddy has left and they have ageing stars, which could see them drop down a few spots.
5) North Melbourne - Added NDS and McDonald to an already good team. Have a sweet draw and failure to make the 8 seems highly unlikely.
6) Richmond - I back them to make the 8, but what they do in finals is anyone's guess. The quality of their young mids is undeniable. If Ellis, Conca and Vlastuin all fire this year they could finish higher.
7) Collingwood - Has lost a couple of stars but still have the core of a good team, plus have some young stars who should keep them in or near the 8 in years to come.
8) Essendon - I tip us to finish 5th to 8th, but put us lower due to a harder-than-usual draw. In contrast to previous seasons, I think we'll lose more games near the start of the season and work our way up the ladder.
9) Carlton - Need Essendon to be hit by infractions so they can make the 8.
10) Port Adelaide - Have some good young mids but I'm not sure they can back up their 2013 effort. 10-11 wins.
11) Adelaide - I think they'll win 9 or 10 and miss out on the 8.
12) West Coast - With their draw I can see them being in the eight and possibly near the top of the eight after a handful of games but will slip down the ladder due to harder fixtures.
13) Brisbane - about 8 wins and a draw. Hard to seem them beating many of the top 8 sides.
13) Western Bulldogs - I know they've improved, but I see them only winning 7 or 8 games. The first three rounds should indicate we're they're at. If they're able to beat North or Richmond I'd have to reconsider this rating. Crameri to kick 40 and raise Essendon supporters' ire.
14) Gold Coast - Will win about 6 or 7 games.
16) Melbourne - IMO will be doing fairly well after 6 rounds but will then lose a heap of games and end up near the bottom. Percentage will be better than recent seasons, but will get pipped by better sides like the Doggies and Brisbane.
17) GWS - Another year of development and mostly losses for their talented but young side.
18) St Kilda - Have lost too many senior players to be anywhere near the 8 in 2014. The first round against Melbourne should give an indication as to whether they'll claim the spoon.

This is the ladder, lock it in homies.

1.) Fremantle
2.) Hawks
3.) North Melbourne
4.) Swans
5.) Bombers
6.) Collingwood
7.) Richmond
8.) West Coast
9.) Adelaide
10.) Geelong
11.) Blues
12.) Port
13.) GC
14.) Bulldogs
15.) Lions
16.) GWS
17) Melbourne
18) Saints

1. Sydney
2. Hawthorn
3. Fremantle
4. Collingwood
5. Geelong
6. North Melbourne
7. Essendon
8. Adelaide
9. Gold Coast
10. Western Bulldogs
11. Port Adelaide
12. Richmond
13. West Coast
14. Carlton
15. Brisbane
16. St Kilda
17. Melbourne
18. Greater Western Sydney

North to take their chances
Collingwood to have a good run with injury and take some big scalps.
Bulldogs to continue their late 2013 form
Carlton to slide with Waite to be suspended or injured for most of the year (as usual)
The bottom 3 to be absolutely sh*thouse
