Hawthorn beat us comfortably. Essendon beat us the week before with Peter Wright looking like ******* Lockett, and Port missed a bunch of shots and still won by a kick. I wouldn't have backed us against any decent team at that point, our form line was shocking.

Whatever happened Bevo and the team managed to right the ship, and now we look more like the team we were in the first half of the year.

The only form line that matters is last week's, and as you or another poster rightly pointed out both sides look pretty good on that basis. I'm not discounting the fact either team could be on and the other not, resulting in a comfortable win, but my guess would be an arm wrestle until at least late in the third.
Yeah no doubt both teams form has been excellent over the last few weeks.

Expecting it to be a tight game

The Bulldogs did dip at the end of home and away but then smashed Essendon, beat Brisbane at the Gabba and smashed Port in Adelaide.
Melbourne's finals form has been impressive as well but I think the odds are wrong.
I think it should be an even money game or Bulldogs slight favourites.
I don't think many Dee's players have played in a GF.

Dees are rightly slight favourites. Absolutely monstered the Lions and walked over the Cats. Have won 6 straight now and finished on top of the ladder

Dogs ran away with the game against the Bombers but that was game on at half time and then snuck home v the Lions. The Power game was super impressive though. Before that they dropped 3 in a row

That form line reads very much 1.60 - 2.30 type odds. Not sure how that form line would make Dogs favourites tbh

Yeah there’s no guarantees. I could be confident we’ll totally outplay the Dogs, but then we could still end up kicking 6.13 or something. Or random chance could affect any number of things. Variables include weather, injuries, illness, nerves, personal troubles, etc. That’s footy.

Predictions by supporters always assume best case scenarios. But no one would go to games if they couldn’t at least imagine their team winning. It’s the definition of harmless fun.
It's one of the great things about the grand final, once you get there, it's just gonna come down to whoever plays better on the day!

Port won last 7 inc. Cats final, finished 2nd, still got smashed, you're next.
Port have quite clearly been pretenders all season so not sure if you can compare them to Melbourne

But keep fishing

Not what experts/form guide said 48hrs ago..

Dogs scary good, not even in top gear yet.

Shame we have to wait 12 days.
cool story, might as well not worry about playing the grand final then, hey?

If the Demons lose, the heartache would be immense.

The Doggies have 2016 and have already had an amazing finals run. I don't think a loss here would be as shattering as it would be for the Dees.

Best 2 teams all year. Shame the Dogs had to stumble at the end of the season and go through us in the semi but I'm happy we provided the best finals game of the season.

It would, but the flipside is if they win next season, the 58 year drought breaker will at least be in Melbourne with a hopefully full MCG. But nothing's guaranteed, and although I prefer the Dogs overall and don't mind who wins, hope Melbourne does it.

You'll probably wish you hadn't..wont be a 119, top office wont allow it..
I severely doubt we were be as ****ing insipid as Port Adelaide were on Saturday night that is for sure

1pt loss in GF is way worse than 71 in a Prelim, not that you'll get near that, all those hopes, so close, eyes of the World, heartbreaking, 5 years in the wilderness minus the dodgy camp..

So getting your ass handed to you on a plate in front of your home fans after one of the most embarrassing preliminary final performances ever is better than winning the preliminary final and losing the grand final by a point?

You can spend the next 6 months convincing yourself of that, I'll enjoy the build up to to watching my team in the grand final

In a nutshell, yes.
Didnt cost our supporters a fortune to see that..

So long as you spend the next six months telling yourself the pain was somehow worth it.

Finally get 2 Melbourne metro clubs in the GF for the first time in 11 years, and it's played off the MCG.

What's the bet Port or Brisbane make it next season when its back at the MCG?
They'll make the 8 since they are clearly better than a lot of other teams in the comp but I would not be surprised if neither do any damage.

Given the drop off of Geelong and Richmond, I’d expect to see Melbourne and the WB be regulars in the top 2. Port and Brisbane will be thereabouts, and Sydney and GWS should be also. Essendon and Fremantle should be in the 8.

I don't think many Dee's players have played in a GF.

Its not much different to when the Dogs played the Swans in 2016.

Not many Brisbane players had played a GF before 2001, or Geelong players in 2007, or Hawthorn players in 2008, or Collingwood players in 2010, or Bulldogs players in 2016. In those instances their opponents had played a GF one, three, one, one and two years prior. Four out of five of those opponents had won a flag (Swans having one four rather than two years prior).

Finals/grand final experience is one of the biggest myths in football.

Nothing quite like having 50% of the total football media coverage is there? I suspect we'll be almost burned out after two weeks of it

To be fair if you barrack for Port it’s probably hard to realistically imagine what it’s like to lose a GF by 118 points, let alone 1 point

Bleak to consider that Port could lose a GF by 1 point and their average losing margin in GFs would still be 60 points.

I posted something similar mid season, but I just can't have sympathy or respect for a team that is still benefiting from tanking (lever has a direct link to the bonus Scully pick) and pulled a dodgy with GWS in the draft to not bid on Viney (hey, they got toumpas at pick 4 but beside the point, they could have stolen McRae from us!).

I love how confident so many neutrals are of a certain outcome. I'm sure dees and dogs supporters have no idea what's going to happen.

I've said all year the dees are the team I fear and it's not exactly because of their players, rather the way they play as a complete team. This will not be an easy game for either side.
