and we played one of the most gifted teams in the afl with Ugle-Hagan and Sam Darcy. Literally give us those 2 players and the result is reversed. It's not an even comp, every team is just trying to play their best footy possible.

I am curious as to what's changed tactically to unlock his new and improved version of the Dogs.

The consensus early in the season seemed to be that talent was clearly not an issue but that Bevo had run his race and his message was falling on deaf ears. All of a sudden they are playing the best brand of football in the league with absolute confidence and belief in themselves.

Early the Dogs had an unsettled line up.

Injuries to key players like Aaron Naughton (knee, concussion), Ed Richards, Liam Jones, Cody Weightman and Tom Liberatore, coupled with new and inexperienced players finding their way within team structure like Buku Khamis, Bramble, O'Donnell, Darcy, Freijah, Sanders, Gallagher, and Poulter, meant that Bevo couldn't get consistent output from a critical mass of players individually.

This led to inconsistent output from the team overall, undue pressure on the team defensively - especially the undermanned backline, and a slow start to the season.

Now that all key players are back combined with the team striking gold with the left field move of Rory Lobb to the backline and overdue introduction of Ed Richards to the midfield mix, the team is finding confidence in the structure and game plan leading to more consistent output on match day.

The team still has a lot of improvement in them however, with conversion in front of goal still a major concern.

As well as the team is going, I would still have them a level below the teams at the very top of the form ladder like the Brisbane Lions and Hawthorn until they can fix the goal kicking and find a way to stop small and mid sized forwards, which the Lions and Hawks have a plethora of.

But you're ok with Viney, Taj and Kynan Brown playing for you? If your club spent less time with their heads in the stockbrokers trough and more time creating decent sons you'd get to see a real premiership.

Had the impression Bevo had never put time and strategy into the opposition, he didn't tag, he trusted his midfield to help us win, but teams would often slice us open through the middle with little resistance and score in quick succession. Bevo never changed it up.

Bevo this year, particularly the 2nd half of the season, with his renewed coaching assistants, is coaching us differently IMO. We protected the corridor v Geelong and Sydney and kept both to 7 goals each. We put a strategy in place to curb Weitering a month ago who marked everything in the 1st qtr for the Blues, by using Weightman and West to disturb his positioning and marking. Was quiet after quarter time.

He used Garcia to frustrate Oliver on Friday night, haven't seen us do that with Oliver before.

I really think Bevo has improved his tactics and general coaching with the help of his assistants.

Also helps that Jones has played nearly all games and had a bit of luck with moving Lobb who has been enormous lately.
