Neither side were inspiring over the weekend.
I think we are looking at a horror of a game, some bad umpiring to make it even worse.

The game will be won by player who is trying kick the ball out of bounds who accidentally kicks a goal.
Final score 3.17 to 2.22

with the slop melbourne served up against collingwood its hard to see the few that made it to that one turning up to this game. 90-10 crowd in favour of carlton
There were a few Dees fans there, just weren't very loud considering how garbage we were.

I'll still be going. I'm feeling so grim about footy right now though, 3 finals losses in a row really flipping hurts and Thursday night was probably the most frustrated and disappointed I've ever been at a footy match

Hawks know the feeling after 2016/2018 straight sets.

Coming up against hungrier sides in the second week

It reminds me of that and also Carlton reminds me of us in 2018 - riding the hype train but won't make it past a really hard interstate trip.

At least you guys had that 3peat though.
I really.love what happened in 2021 , but as someone who goes to a lot of games it would be nice to see us win at least a final at the MCG. Its been 5 years since we won an MCG final now

Melbourne has no idea up forward and both teams are ordinary, but i'll pick the Blues to win this and i wonder how many questions will be asked if Melbourne goes out in straight sets two years in a row? Blues by 15 points. Neither team has a chance against the Lions the following week though.

Quietly confident. Hopefully the win against Swans will alleviate the obvious nerves we had in a first final for many. We need to get rid of the mistakes. If we do that we win

McKay and Martin are loses but we can replace them. I thought both didn't contribute much on the weekend (although Martin helped late). McKay's lack of form and poor goalkicking is doing more damage than good.

Kennedy for Martin as he is a medium sized forward who has played the role before. Cripps can go forward as well and Kennedy can have some midfield minutes. Motlop plays and I'd have Dow as sub

Very tempted to play Hollands for extra run on outside. His ability to cover the ground and gut run was missed. Weather looks good so I'd play him

Jack for McKay. Jack will be harder and give more effort. Key now will be how we deliver it inside forward 50. When we bomb it we get picked off and May & Lever will have a field day. Lower our eyes and even mongrel kicks into forward line suit us better

Brayshaw & Van Rooyen are big losses that the Demons will struggle to cover. They don't have the quality depth

Bottom line is if Blues play well with effort I struggle to see Melbourne kicking a winning score

Blue by 21 points

Melbourne struggling to score particularly without Melksham and Fritsch on the Fritz.

Managed to win last time we met a few weeks ago without Cerra, Walsh, McKay, McGovern, Kennedy and JSOS. With 3 of those already back and JSOS and Kennedy possibly available.

Can see us winning.

Martin out really hurts Carlton's forward line. More so than McKay. May and Lever will strangle Charlie's supply.

If Silvagni is not fit then the forward lines will be equally average.

This will be a very dour slogfest. 8-10 goals from each side.

I don't think your forward line is horrific. But the coaches or players have managed to find a way not to address it all season. Which is alarming.

Would be really hard to watch and we were in a similar boat mid season where we couldn't score.

Demons to win this for me.
Carlton are teetering and getting away with it.
Sydney just needed a bit of luck converting and they would have got up by 3 goals.
Mckay missing will help, he is seriously overrated, I’m actually upset he got knocked out as it makes the blues a more balanced team.
TDK is way more valuable up front.
Martin is a loss, played well.
Melbourne needs Fritz and Kosi to kick a couple and the demons defence will ensure Carlton won’t kick enough.
And Brisbane will just relax and hope its carnage!

Yeha its not just the forwards themselves, its game plan and how you kick it inside 50.
We have had some purple patches where we've scored really well but that was with Petty, Melk and Van Rooyen in which all 3 won't be playing this Friday.
I'm hoping lack of talls will mean we'll have to lower the eyes a bit more rather than just bombing it all day long. Weitering will have a field day if we play like we did on Thursday night.

Also Fritsch is an absolute gun, he's had 2×50 goal seasons in a row and likely would've done it again if he wasn't injured. I think he will fire up, I can't see him having 2 bad games in a row.

There's no way we kick 3.17.
With Harry out, it's more likely to be 5.15.

The only questions that should be asked are about their forward line.
They seriously need to recruit a half decent, ready to go tall forward. The rest of their side is pretty good and reasonably well balanced, but TMac, Grundy, Brown and Schache are not the answer.
JVR might be ok, but still has some developing to do and is Curnow sized. Need someone like a younger version of Ben Brown and that should be their main focus this off season.

Some of the commentary around Harry McKay is getting pretty sad. Clearly the bloke is struggling mentally and has been absolutely piled on all year.

I get he is a professional footballer and performance with be analysed. But people taking enjoyment in his struggles which is actually kind of embarrassing when he plays for the club you support.

When does commentary become bullying is the question I guess. I mean the pressure pre maturely retired Tom Boyd and has done so to other players.

Just something to think about I guess :)

Still a very good team on their night.
Agree, Demons will be a significant challenge, no walk iin the park,
very tough and close encounter. If Gawn dominates that equates our midfield edge, Demons have a mighty defense, without Harry, Charlie will have less opportunities In the forward line.
All hinges on final 22 available, important for both teams, losing Martin and Harry will significantly dampen our scoring options, both work hard to create scoring opportunities, Martin’s footy IQ and magic unique.
Go Blues

Fritsch is a worry. Could easily go for 5 and not sure we've got the right player to go with him.
Do we go a taller but agile player like Kemp, Gov or Marchy who are all more spoil/intercept oriented, or a slightly smaller player like Newman who is more of a niggly type player but might be able hurt going the other way?
I'd probably go a combo of Gov and Newman.
