Some of the commentary around Harry McKay is getting pretty sad. Clearly the bloke is struggling mentally and has been absolutely piled on all year.

I get he is a professional footballer and performance with be analysed. But people taking enjoyment in his struggles which is actually kind of embarrassing when he plays for the club you support.

When does commentary become bullying is the question I guess. I mean the pressure pre maturely retired Tom Boyd and has done so to other players.

Just something to think about I guess :)
It's just from people who don't understand footy beyond who kicks the goals and who makes mistakes that cost goals. He's the best CHF in the league and an absolute gun who's got the yips at the moment like many great players before him. Won the Coleman in 21 and then changed roles so Curnow could become the main target and is playing really well aside from his accuracy.

I may have joked about what we'd score with him out of the side, but I'm firmly in the camp that we are better with him on the ground and would love for him to be out there.
We've done ok without him in recent months though, so we just have to knuckle down and get it done.

Dees have the worst forward line in the comp. Can't see them kicking a winning score.
Carlton should have this.

Then Carlton will get absolutely annihilated by Brisbane at the Gabba.😀

Demons to win this for me.
Carlton are teetering and getting away with it.
Sydney just needed a bit of luck converting and they would have got up by 3 goals.
Mckay missing will help, he is seriously overrated, I’m actually upset he got knocked out as it makes the blues a more balanced team.
TDK is way more valuable up front.
Martin is a loss, played well.
Melbourne needs Fritz and Kosi to kick a couple and the demons defence will ensure Carlton won’t kick enough.
And Brisbane will just relax and hope its carnage!
It's fine not to rate Harry for whatever reasons are in your head, but to double down and claim that TDK is more valuable than him up forward is just based an very little knowledge of anything Carlton.
Considering how much you're posting about us in your short time on here, your knowledge should be much better.

Who's bullied him? He was very poor Friday night and criticism of his game is justified IMO

Id take TDK over him in a heartbeat.
Way more flexible in his positional mobility and is only getting better.
Harry is mentally cooked, and it’s only an opinion but one based on a fair chunk of evidence, much like McKernan went down hill.
And there are only a few sides left to comment on so obviously you guys will be up there.
It will stop after next Friday and then will focus on other teams left in the competition, that’s how it works.

I see people are already falling for the EF winner beating the QF loser.

Melbourne should start favorites and their forward line may not be the best, but they will get the ball in there enough to win.
Remember they have a backline good enough to hold Carlton to a losing score.

Will they? I'd debate that. Losing Braysahw is huge, Petracca seems to be need forward and the Carlton midifield is much deeper.

Dees will bounce back just need to be smarter and actually look for targets instead of just bombing and hoping which they have done for the last two years. They are so Lucky they have may and lever in there side. Martin is a huge out for Carlton. I have a feeling Carlton will be kicking majority of there i50’s entry’s to Curnow and lever and May will be onto this pretty quickly.

Either way both teams won’t make the grand final as they have no chance against Brisbane at the Gabba
Last time we played the Dees we won without Curnow kicking our goals - Blues will bring SOS aim also play TDK forward - adding Motlop and Dow. Better balance than Harry & King C.

This the same formula that won us 9 in a row.

You may run deeper than Melbourne , but you are no way better than Melbourne, they will get the ball inside 50 enough to win.IMO.

I would also argue Melbourne has a better defense, but of course you will most likely argue against that.

Anyway, I am tipping Melbourne, they, imo are the better team and will win running away.

Not really talking about a specific game.

As I said he has been absolutely piled on all year and often unfairly in the media. It's clearly impacting him and he said as much during the week.

Hence my mention of when does commentary become bullying.

Very poor?
Nonsense.
He had 2 very poor shots that should have been goals, but aside from that had a really good game in the 3 quarters he was on.
2 assists, 7 score involvements (only 2 players on the ground had more, and H didn't play the last quarter). If he had have kicked those goals, he would probably have been BOG at 3/4 time.
Look at how our scoring dried up after he went off.

IMO scoring dried up because we panicked and went into our shell. Not McKay. That's my take

Whilst I don't condone bullying, criticism and analysis is part of the game. It's a tough game and being able to handle it mentally is a key part and it won't change. The best players are the mentally strongest

Questions over McKay's form since coming back are fair IMO

I'd argue more critical stories and takes have been raised this year about Harry McKay and his form, kicking, contract etc than any other player in the AFL.

When you are targeting someone constantly and often unreasonably (e.g we should trade him to Melbourne) it's treading a fine line between reasonable criticism and bullying.

I reckon I could pick out 10 players in worse form on similar money/contracts who haven't gotten a quarter of the criticism and it started long before his return from injury.

But happy to disagree.

Just wondering,
Was JSOS part of the 9 game winning streak?

McKay won a Coleman medal kicking 58 goals and he was touted a superstar.
He's regressed slowly ever since then.
He is a slow, one dimensional footballer. Is he even a competent ruck?
Said it before and I'll say it again, their forward line is a little more unpredictable without him down there.

He would fit in perfectly at a club like Melbourne. Ben Brown is a similar player and he found form at the right time to help them win a flag.

This is going to be a classic.
I reckon Melbourne get the job done as Gawn will be too much.

The only questions that should be asked are about their forward line.
They seriously need to recruit a half decent, ready to go tall forward. The rest of their side is pretty good and reasonably well balanced, but TMac, Grundy, Brown and Schache are not the answer.
JVR might be ok, but still has some developing to do and is Curnow sized. Need someone like a younger version of Ben Brown and that should be their main focus this off season.
Without Van Rooyen and Brayshaw, the Demons will not be able to match the Blues who will also be missing Martin and McKay. I see improvement coming from the Blues, I see a disaster looming for Melbourne

I don't agree with your points especially highlighted. Certainly not slow or one dimensional. Way better than Brown

Hasn't had a good year and struggled since coming back in. No doubt, but he can play.

Reminds me of Joe Daniher. Needs to have a more mobile role and build confidence. He is a confidence player

Over the pre season I believe he should be trained as a Fwd/2nd Ruck the same as Daniher was. It will make all the difference to him and the side

Hahahaha slow? You're a muppet. Go google The Speed Project, he'd be one of the fastest runners in the AFL.

What makes him better than Brown at the same age?

Joe Daniher is an athletic freak. He was taking speccies and kicking goals on the run from outside fifty. McKay has rarely ever done this. He is not that kind of player.
I doubt McKay could even kick a drop punt from fifty let alone outside.

Yeah only 3 of these 5 goals are from outside 50...
