God forbid Big Ant run a second late
When you’ve used ~166hrs of your 168hr timeframe to pass on exactly zero amounts of information, I can certainly understand why people would be asking questions.

Let’s look at the track record:

  • Delays in the initial game release.
  • Further delays to the Xbox release.
  • A roadmap announced over a month ago and still MIA.
  • Steam to get “mostly” daily patches and it’s been 1 in 6 days.
  • Consoles to get weekly patches, 1 in almost two weeks on PS5.

I’m sure I’ve probably missed plenty of other things we’re still waiting on but let's just see what eventuates within the next few hours to avoid “celebrating before the siren”.

Having said that though, it doesn’t seem like Xbox players will have much to be happy about from the wording which if delayed, will likely add further delays to cross-play and Pro Teams.

I'm taking the lack of news as (maybe) they're trying to cram as many things as they can in to the next patch for Steam/consoles as possible and test re-test (and re-test the re-test) the patch before officially loading it up for public consumption.

It really is sink or swim time - the length of time between initially proposed release/actual release vs where we are currently at in the real life AFL season. The pressure is on to keep the current player base, playing the actual game. While also trying to encourage new buyers (both on current platforms and a future Xbox release).

I have to say, with the delay in patches now for PS5, I've barely played this game in two weeks. That being said, with TotK and Jedi Survivor sitting there, I tend to put my gaming time into those.

I just don't find there's much depth there for me to continue playing right now. If the Management Career is overhauled, I'll pick it up for sure.

I’m a bit the same. Management mode getting a good run of patching and a couple of fixes around gameplay and I’ll be happy as a pig in shit!

I'm not even worried about management mode nor the pro team/legend stuff. I just want the game play fixed first and foremost.
I've been happy just playing play now and season mode (realistically didn't think we'd get a deep diving sim/management mode being the "first" year).

I’m reasonably happy with game play, just want it to be less congested and less super human AI and I’ll be set.
I only play for management mode.

I've heard it all before mate. Apologies then more demands.
I spend the time to make you something and then you keep asking for more and more. Making SVG files takes a while. Tracing in Illustrator does take a while.
How about you have a go. Download Inkscape (free program) and have a go. You might even enjoy it..
Should start charging people if they keep making demands 🙊

I want to be positive, but some people just suck the life out of it by being demanding. I genuinely want to help people but when they wont even meet me half way like having a go at making an SVG image, I am starting to lose my patience.

If people (like me for example) asked for one thing that’s fine but when people constantly expect you to give and give and just do it for free like you owe them it becomes a problem.
Like you said at least give it a try and make the effort first.

For anyone interested I put out a AFL23 State of the game video this morning going over the good, the bad and the where to from here.

Felt I was pretty objective with my analysis and still firmly believe that we are 1 or 2 chunky patches away from this being in a good spot depth / gameplay wise.

I’ve had a go on the ps5 and that was enough for me , if pro team is good it’s the only thing that will draw me to get on Xbox now with the delay. Having a blast with F1 and assuming cricket is out in the next month or two I just haven’t got any excitement left for AFL at present.

Perhaps at the start of next season with updates might get me in.

Will have a suss tonight mate! Great work

People scream for timelines and updates from the CEO.... (who's on this forum by choice, mind you)...
And when he gives a best guess on something, we have people watching the clock like hawks....

Really wish we could stop asking for timeframes, and really wish Ross would stop giving them (I get that he's trying his best to communicate well with the fans... )
But really we could do without these bean-counter style comments.

If it's something minor like "when is Player X going to get an updated haircut?" I'd tend to agree. When it's the release date for 1/3rd of the available platforms, it's much, much harder to be OK with it.

I'm struggling to think of a similar situation given all versions were meant to be out on the same day.

Whenever it is, hopefully the Xbox version is bug-free and feature-complete (although we still don't know what feature-complete means or what are considered bugs or deliberate design decisions...).

In that case, no comment on XBox would be better from Ross...
And we've seen how that goes down.

Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.

I didn't ask for any time frames and just like Ross being on this forum, he has a choice on what comments he makes.

If it's a "best guess" scenario then you'd think a 7 day window is quite a large time frame to be held to and if you're not so confident maybe throw a "should" in there so there's some leeway given.

We're talking about the release of the game on a platform that has had absolutely zero updates in over a month so I would say it's a pretty important piece of information.

Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.
He's been quite happy to "have nothing further to add" on previous topics so what's one more to the mix?

Not exactly. A whole console platform was delayed and for the past month there was radio silence as to why (NDA I know) or when we could expect an update on its release until a week ago. If Xbox makes up 20% of the market/revenue as Ross said above then why not announce its release date when he’s able to?

For the XBox update... I imagine it's largely out of his/BigAnt's hands. That's Microsoft, and distributers, and storefronts... an entire supply chain that he's probably only getting updates from them about.

So if he's told 5 days, tells us 7 days, and it ends up being 10 days.... well then.... should we get angry at him?
Or should he not have said anything, and kept everyone guessing?

But you're correct though.... maybe more comments with 'nothing further to add' to fill the gap.
