Is there a way to change player numbers inside the academy?

Nah none of that is in the game. Want to change clubs? Start a new career. Injuries primarily happen to players when games are simulated, during bye weeks and off-season or when they're dropped to the ressies. Never in game, and in all the games I've played, I've only ever had 1 player injured after a match in the 1's (Blake Hardwick did an ACL). Suspensions aren't a thing and neither is training (they just have the natural development or drop off). Don't think any of the above would be on their agenda for the 2024 release pack but we can always hope I supposeThis still isn’t fixed?
Jeez, That tells you where we are at this point. People debating if the game is even still being worked on.I think they've abandoned development, other than an upcoming "list update" they may even ask money for, lol.
game_chromosome had a pretty good looking project going. I hope he's still plugging away on it.Anyone know another dev team who might be interested in making an Aussie Rules game? Hell, I'll take a few mates creating a text sim in their spare time. XD
Ironically, I’d love an update on this more so than AFL 23.game_chromosome had a pretty good looking project going. I hope he's still plugging away on it.
I am still working on Footy Showdown when I can and maybe this year I can release it into early access because I have been working it part time for so long now it has become a dark cloud above me that will not leave until I release something.Ironically, I’d love an update on this more so than AFL 23.
Have zero faith in BigAnt at this point
Pls come through for us game_chromosome
There's an AFL game in our dreams we all want in the end. Footy Showdown will not be it. What it will be is the Aussie Rules game I set out to make which is to be a fun game to play first and foremost.
I will support the game post release as much as needed and add requests from the community where possible, but please, do not sing this game into a prophecy of being the savoir of AFL gaming as it will be washed away by the flood of disappointment that will be beset upon it on the first day of release.
Sorry that got deep. We have a tough time ahead as AFL gamers, and Footy Showdown will be the fun game that will tide us over until the AFL game we deserve descends from the heavens.
Keep at it, even if it takes a number of more years. Your gameplay footage from years ago was brilliant and had some very intelligent AI that I had never before seen in a Aussie Rules game. Just so many cool elements to it like the NES aesthetic.I am still working on Footy Showdown when I can and maybe this year I can release it into early access because I have been working it part time for so long now it has become a dark cloud above me that will not leave until I release something.
The problem is, and I hope everyone interested understands, is that we have all been wanting that one AFL game forever that has everything we want, both gameplay and graphics and modes and that we are "fed up" for lack of a better term with what has been released that no matter what game AFL is released, it will not be the game we have been starving for. We as a whole community are not willing to accept it has to built upon every release to get where we want it. There are some who understand this but most don't.

Funny thing about the AI in those videos is that it is pretty basic to be honest. Basic in the sense that I needed the game to function so I just coded what I believe the basic things a player does in a match and see how it goes and that was the result.Keep at it, even if it takes a number of more years. No offence taken lol I know what my game is and isn't.No offense to G_C but did we see the same videos? Jesus mate...You've really built his game up in your mind to something it is very obviously not.
But it's more interesting because they're not just 1v1 plays, a multitude of players will move into contested plays or peel off, which I don't believe WW had peeling off. Big Ant didn't even do that with 23, it's just 1v1 contested marking plays.Funny thing about the AI in those videos is that it is pretty basic to be honest. Sometimes I would just watch the game play itself and I've seen some pretty decent passages of play from it. A lot of room to improve it though
Oh dont get me wrong mate. I am following your development with a keen interest. Just worried old mate above has built it up in his head to be something its not.No offence taken lol I know what my game is and isn't.
I'm just a wannabe developer stupid enough to attempt it haha
Hopefully in the future it can win you over
It's just a more interesting project than what we've had, especially from an indie person. I also think its proof if there was a team of fans with some money and development knowledge that "dream game" would be very possible.Oh dont get me wrong mate. By peeling off, do you mean if a teammate gets the ball, other players will exit the contest for support and handballs? But it's more interesting because they're not just 1v1 plays, a multitude of players will move into contested plays or peel off, which I don't believe WW had peeling off. Basically seeing them really peel off their man by sprinting far away as an uncontested option, I saw it multiple times in your 2021 gameplay video. It's not really anything I've seen in other footy games, so it's a breath of fresh air. That would be such a hard task to get the AI logic right for Aussie Rules. That's why I assume most developers don't bother with trying to properly replicate player logic from The AFL.By peeling off, do you mean if a teammate gets the ball, other players will exit the contest for support and handballs?
Again that is just something I think is basic Aussie rules and I'm not sure why other games didn't have it.Basically seeing them really peel off their man by sprinting far away as an uncontested option, I saw it multiple times in your 2021 gameplay video. Been saying it for years but the loud majority always demand they focus on ultimate team modes, more accurate tattoos, updates colours for the stitching on some player's boots, etc. It's not til it releases that they realise gameplay kinda makes or breaks the game. We're 39 days away from the Opening Round and it really looks like Big Ant have given this one up as a bad job considering all their other shambolic releases.
Hopefully one day we'll get a dev that doesn't do a single round of useless face scans or adding in every 3rd tier stadium and league who can just focus on that magical gameplay

To be fair, my focus on these things was solely because big Rossco was going on about how good everything was visually. Gameplay is always king, most people know that. I'll never forgot Ross' post crying about nobody talking about how smooth the animation was in a mason cox gif (which nobody asked for) whilst ignoring other questions.Been saying it for years but the loud majority always demand they focus on ultimate team modes, more accurate tattoos, updates colours for the stitching on some player's boots, etc. It's not til it releases that they realise gameplay kinda makes or breaks the game.
I guess those who bought the game realistically just bought it for the smooth Mason Cox animationTo be fair, my focus on these things was solely because big Rossco was going on about how good everything was visually. I don't think it's hindsight, just basic logic that gameplay comes first. The extra stuff was always going to waste their budget, labour and time. I think they could have easily had a real simulation footy game for the first time ever had they just made common sense decisions from the start, especially with a much bigger budget.Hindsight is certainly 20/20 in this case however the one thing they should’ve focused on more than anything was having a fun & functional game ready to go at launch. If all the bugs had been ironed out and what was under the hood was still playable, stuff like Pro Team’s omission/delay would’ve been forgiven easily. Let’s see what patch 2024 does to rectify the remaining issues.
But once controlled, players teleport, stutter, stop and do all sorts of strange animations. This isn't just in 23, it's in their AO Tennis games, too, especially when compared to 2011's Top Spin 4 where 2K's animations were very fluid and realistic. To be fair, my focus on these things was solely because big Rossco was going on about how good everything was visually. Honestly think the much bigger budget got spent on travelling to perfect the stadiums, and then towards licensing for Pro Team with gameplay just copping the average. Add in that the legends were probably promised a cut of the profits from the in-game micro transactions, then when the game launched they realised that would be bugger all, and wanted to renegotiate. We're closing in on 12 months since the AFL posted about Pro Team, surely there has to be some sort of financial aspect holding back their money maker - unless it really is they just have no faith it will work.I don't think it's hindsight, just basic logic that gameplay comes first.
