Baldwin is 'only' 193cm which in this day doesn't really cut it as a KPF. I'd be hoping we draft the best KPF available at our first pick and then draft a tall mid, half back or small forward with whatever other picks we take to the draft - assuming Davey goes late RD1 and we sadly can't get Munkara.
If we're going to have a tweenie that doesn't tackle and apply pressure and can't crumb, but can take a mark and kick a goal, I'd as soon have Baldwin at 193 rather than Waterman at 183 tbh.

That's not really true. Curnow is 192, same with Brodie Mihocek whilst Tex Walker and Jack Gunston are the same height.

Is Jai Culley injured? Had a hot start to the year but seems to not have played according to the app.

A MSD target for us I would have thought?
I’m not sure but I think he would be a great choice

All freakishly mobile. Tex is at least explosively quick.

It can definitely be done at 193ish cm. But, and it's the killer point, you've got to have that mobility.

Edit: Gown could play the game. He kicked goals regularly at VFL level. But he was moved on. At the end of the day he wasn't going to be able to get separation from AFL standard key defenders.

These were my thoughts also. Baldwin, if anyone is close enough (stylistically) to Tex in that he is an old fashioned lead and mark forward. As you mentioned though, Tex is quick (well, was). Baldwin basically bullies players smaller than him but when he is playing the best of the best at AFL level, I begin to ascertain if he can genuinely make it or not.

Tex hasn’t been quick or able to jump since he did his knee.

**** me. Player comes back from two knee operations and has played under 10 real games at any level in 3 years and he is cooked already ?
Guess that is the problem with unrealistic expectation. If anyone seriously thought he would be up to AFL level now they have NFI.

It's not a question of being up to AFL level by game 3.

How is his game translating to the top level?

I didn’t realise Darling, Curnow and Georgiades were a similar height. They are all good players but they also get to share a forward line with Kennedy, McKay and Dixon respectively who would take the best defender.

Baldwin can certainly become a serviceable if not better KPP for us but the next gen of KPF like McKay, King twins are all 200cm+. If a player we think can reach that calibre is available at our pick then I think we should take them - unless we are certain that 2MP, Jones and Baldwin are enough to take us to our next flag.

Georgiades may be the best burst runner in the AFL. Complete gas and very agile. Can we please remove him from this conversation.

Curnow has the tank of an elite wingman and has retained pretty ridiculous all round athleticism. Throw in arms that are probably as long as those attached to Mason Cox.

It's a complete distortion of this argument. How man goals would Matthew Lloyd have kick if he was as quick as Stanton?

Edit: too complicated. He's Belgey who is 2 inches taller at the most

How many games has he had to develop it ? Maybe he needs the full season. Lets face it he has done 1 AFL pre season. Maybe they get the games into him. Build the fitness base and maybe work on a bit of running to get his pace off the mark up a little. The basic thing he needs is games of footy. Games to learn his craft. Games to learn himself after two knee operations. At this point he has played pretty well in 3 VFL games but has found the speed of AFL level beyond him. I am not going to say he will make it. He has work to do and his set shots have not excited me much yet but he will need some time to develop.
Playing in a train wreck is certainly not helping him.

He was coming off 8 goals in 2 VFL games, in an ideal world he would play out the year in the magoos and get a 40 goal year under his belt for a bit of confidence and self belief.

What could possibly be so good about him with the looming list squeeze.

These are all arguments that he might be able to have a career despite clear obstacles.

Next please.

Baldwin needs to work on his speed and agility over the pre-season - This will determine if he can reach AFL standard - He needs to play the rest of the season in the VFL while having some type of mini pre-season to work on his deficiencies.

You do know he's a rookie selection, right?

We do not have the list spots to burn on players who are a tiny chance of making it.

We're already stuck with one at the other end of the ground.

The reason you persist with Eyre is because if it clicks you know it will work. It was always going to be a long term project. You don't abandon that project for a player who might make it if he can somehow overcome significant physical limitations.

As I said no one shed a tear for Gown. He was a very capable footballer but it was just as obvious that he wasn't going to cut it at the higher level.

Or even just compare with the little we have seen of Voss buzzing around the ground. Much better movement offering the same strengths.

You take the punt on Baldwin because of what he was, no criticism there but if he doesn't show significant improvement in his movement by the end of the year he has to go.
