I feel there is a myriad of circumstances that are unbecoming to the KP talent on the list.

BZT - probably stays on the list as depth due to the Michael Hurley injury and ? about his future. (edit. contracted fo '23 helps)
Hurley - we cost him a year, and probably success from his career due to ASAGA. Hip injury one of those unbecoming circumstances we couldn't see coming
Brand - Second year player who probably hasn't come on as I would have liked. The lack of midfield pressure probably hasn't helped his cause.
Francis - another who we could never have predicted would struggle to adapt to the professionalism required to play AFL. Not settling him in defence or attack hasn't helped Aaron imho.

Eyre - Much like Brand going the other way, the highlights from his U18 year was leading at the footy, in the games I have seen, Josh is sitting under the high ball due to poor ball movement forward of centre.
Baldwin - I am one who was probably not forgiving enough but having read the past two pages, great discussion gang, we should absolutely afford him 2023. Being forced to play earlier than expected due to a number of circumstances isn't ideal but he is simply kicking goals at the lower level. You can't deny that.

The fact BZT has a contract doesn't help Francis imho. Brand should be held out by Reid so that frees up two list spots (Francis, Brand) whilst many expect Hurley to retire. That is 3 KPD I would expect to lose and the list would still be in fairly reasonable shape.

Eyre has shown some ability in defence which further enhances the possibilities I floated, Baldwin is a free hit who we need to help play his best football.
You'd want to see brand and eyre showing growth signs, but i think you extend both and francis. Esp if we retire heppell or reduce his role.

Zerk gets his contract year, and baldwin is a no brainer extend. Fact he's even playing AFL is testament to him. I didnt anticipate he'd be an option before next year at the earliest.

Our issue isnt the kids arent developed. Issue is we've underinvested whilst we had hooker, hurley and daniher

This has seriously been compounded by injuries. What would we be if we hadn't;t given Peter Wright an opportunity? Royally screwed, that's what.

Just on Francis, I think, unfortunately, he will (should imho) be a victim of timing. In a 1:1 between he and BZT, Francis should absolutely be in front for a key defensive position, whilst Aaron being a viable option forward just hasn't worked (yet). He has 15 weeks to turn that ship around.

I feel that we have to many "samey's" on the list, clogging up multiple list spots with limited list vacancies available. Wouldn't we be better served having one developing KPD (Reid, Brand, Eyre) and fill those others with more needed positions? (... inside mid, runner perhaps?).

Feel we have thrown enough darts in the last two drafts to see us start culling at years end and those who face the axe, may be stiff but for limited list spots.

We do not have the list spots to burn on players who are a tiny chance of making it.

We're already stuck with one at the other end of the ground.

The reason you persist with Eyre is because if it clicks you know it will work. It was always going to be a long term project. You don't abandon that project for a player who might make it if he can somehow overcome significant physical limitations.

As I said no one shed a tear for Gown. He was a very capable footballer but it was just as obvious that he wasn't going to cut it at the higher level.

Or even just compare with the little we have seen of Voss buzzing around the ground. Much better movement offering the same strengths.

You take the punt on Baldwin because of what he was, no criticism there but if he doesn't show significant improvement in his movement by the end of the year he has to go.

What the **** dude, did you seriously think Baldwin was a short-term, instant impact or something?

The physical limitations you speak of are only relevant at this point if he was experiencing a reoccurrence. Other than that, this is a guy who was a projected top-10 draft pick who basically hasn't been able to play since he was 16. Despite that, he's managed to come in to the club and kick 8 goals in his last two VFL matches against men in losing sides and you're just writing him off after a couple of AFL games, because he hasn't dominated? Just think about it, despite all his set backs, he's shown enough for the coaches in the 14 months he's been here that warranted coming straight into the AFL team for R1.

And for what, to keep Josh Eyre who has next to no excuse compared to Baldwin, has never shown the same upside and hasn't yet done anything to warrant a senior game?

What a world. Maybe have just a little patience.

I'm patient when I can see the potential reward. Hence, I'll wear Eyre being horrible at the moment.

You all talk about instant impact as though I've suggested that's what should happen.

I ask the same question no one answered a page ago. Does Begley make it as a key forward because he's 4cm taller? He played very good VFL footy.

I thought the kicker with Begley was less to do with ability (of which he seemed to have plenty) and more to do with application and willingness to follow coaching direction?

I can see what is coming this year. If we want to draft another midfielder with our first pick it is looking like it will be another 180cm one.

Go tall, then. Would be madness to just take the mid because that's what's on offer.

Look at Smith, Stone, O'Halloran and Voss to add meat around the ball.

Agree on the samey front

Id pick 2 of eyre, brand or mcbride
Extend baldwin as he's pure forward but also potential to 2nd ruck
I feel we need heppell and hurley to retire and tippa is a watch here too.

Hewett at 186 gotta be mighty tempting

Could be in the range. Have not watched enough yet for me to have a solid opinion.

I heard Lemmey was actually looking for more midfield minutes this year

Top group are most of the potential NAB League MSD potentials. Jai Culley is the one that interests me the most.

How did Zavier Maher go?
Pretty good not hugely influential but consistent across the game. Robbed of a Dangerfield esque centre clearance goal on the line by a team mates. Would have thought there was 4-5 better than him though. Sheezel, Gallagher, Culley, Faulkhead the bests I thought.

Obviously we don't wish ill will on anyone, but if a mid-season pick spot opens up, a benefit of being 3rd last is we may get a crack at Jai Culley in the mid season draft.

A 193cm midfielder who kicked 4 first half goals in the Colgate Young guns game. If we have pick 3 in the MSD then surely it is a no-brainer if he slips through.
