If Saints are desperate for Mackenzie, hawks are the team they need to talk to, not bombers. Every draft board has hawks picking Cam. Maybe hawks will agree to 9+28+f1 for 6+24, seems fair.

So bombers will have to offer better deal for Saints to jump that far ahead.
Or Essendon could just indicate they’ll take Mackenzie rendering Hawthorn useless. No better offer necessary.

Thanks man, I'll let Ross know

9 a tad high for Hollands imo
Although we could play the long game and hopefully get Elijah back in a couple of years.
I'd estimate that one of Ginbey, Phillipou or McKenzie would be available either way.

In a perfect world we can trade up to a pick to take Hollands in the teens

Hawks seem to like Tsatas so we should look at swapping first round picks with them. Also our 22 (which would most likely get used for Davey), for their future 2nd which could be top 20.

We would be able to take Phillipou a bit later, while potentially securing a top 20 pick in next year's strong draft.

I do think he will be a better version of Langers. I’m bit more the other way I think we have enough on the outside would rather another one at the coal face. I think they will probably go Tsatas if Wardlaw is not available anyway. I won’t be dissatisfied though if that happens. I will be content that we arguably got the best inside and outside mid in two drafts if that happens. Won’t be upset if we pick Phillipou too just not my preference.
Do we have enough outside ? real outside ?
Shiel and Parish are consistently in the top 20 clearance players and Hobbs will play in the style of Neale.
Personally I am not locked into anyone. There are five players we could take and they would fill a need we have.

I mean we can improve in most areas of the ground that’s why we finished 14. I don’t mind a bit of depth as well as we do tend to get a lot of injuries each year. Hopefully Setters will add some depth to it too. That North game sticks in my head where we absolutely got creamed in the middle.

This doesn't change our draft situation though, does it? What's the point of this 'nomination'?
You have to nominate to match the bids after 40 .

Not only does it mean we have match rights after 40, it means he automatically goes onto our rookie list if he makes it through the main draft.

The alternative is what Adelaide have done with Keeler which is basically wash their hands of him and say ‘no thanks’

Yeah, plus Keeler is no chance of lasting that long anyway

Similar was said of Owens last year. It's a strange choice - unless they're certain they'll have no picks after 40.
Owens was always seen as late teens to early 20's. Keeler is firmly seen in the 20's.

The only real reason not to do it is that they flat out don’t want him

He is different to Langford.
Langford struggles with the positioning and where to be as a midfielder and makes slow decisions . His strength is up and down a wing or half forward. Phillipou does not struggle around the ground and is a pretty good link player. He is just not an A grade clearance winner although he does win his share.
If we are going forward with Shiel and Parish then a dominant clearance player is not really the number one need. Even more so with Hobbs being in the picture. What we need is strong hard edge competitors that can play their role and lead. He is right at the pointy end of my list.

What current player would you say Phillipou ends up like?
