Bid for kako came after our first pick

Can't say it would've if we didn't trade out.

We traded that pick 10 for very likely less than what north traded for pick 27.

Pick 11* and how is it less, at the very worst case it's 18, at best case it's top 5.

Would it not have been better to wait and see how it played out tonight before trading it.

Rosa played it safe, but a little too safe in my opinion.

Yes but then most clubs would've perceived us as desperate at that point and we would've had to abide by whatever others offered.

Surely we move for 31if Jobe or Whitlock are still up, dogs aren't taking them with their picks, richmond already has 2 talls and might take a ruck anyway if they don't sell their pick, who knows with westcoast, might take one of the two.

go for 31

Trading it was the right call as we more than likely got a better deal than if we had to make a trade in 3 minutes with some players already off the board.
It would not have been 3 minutes. It would have been 3 months of planning and negotiation with other teams based on how the pins fell on draft night.

So who is left on the board that everyone's hoping will fall to us?

How do we think it'll pan out from here?

28: Rich
29: Dogs
30: Eagles
31: Dogs
32: Saints
33: Port
34: Freo
35: Hawks
36: Giants
37: Ess
38: Port
39: Ess
40: Scum
41: Swans
42: Cats
43: Ess

If we don't trade up again, maybe Tom Sims, Noah Mraz, Zak Johnson. Also wouldn't mind Davidson.

Surprised that Shanahan and J Whitlock are still available, however.

Guess at the next 16 in no order

Alex Dodson, Jasper Alger, J Whitlock, Jack Ough, Jobe Shanahan, Sam Davidson, Tom Gross, Christian Moraes, Toms Sims, Angus Clarke, James Barrat, Hamish Davis, Kayle Gerryn, Hugh Boxshall, Zak Johnson, Lachie Jacques.

Ben Camporeale could be bid on before 40 if someone wants to push Carlton out of the draft

Just because Norf are stupid doesn't mean the rest of us have to be. We don't have to do anything.
We don't have to be stupid but many had those 2 in the 11-20 range so trading a F1 for them and getting a pick back in return isn't ridiculous.

Right price is probably around the F1 in the 10-18 range imo but both of ours are likely top 10

Murphy Reid had the Tanner Bruhn vibe on tonight.

Stacked midfield over there and a coach that will need to prioritise wins over any youth development in the next couple of years. Hope we've got some good WAFL spotters and are in his ear starting tonight.

Lots of cope here. We 100% could’ve gotten just as much if not more for our first if we didn’t chicken out. Best case scenario Kako doesnt get bid on. Worst case we trade the pick for a haul. Would hope Rosa is more creative in the future. Scared money don’t make money.

I agree. There wouldve been an almost zero chance in this quality draft that we recieved a lowball offer if a bid came in for Kako.
Clubs would have been fighting each other to win our top 10 pick.

Lmao you could say that about literally every post on this forum. Nevertheless you're acting like every club was offering a F1 for 27 when they weren't and didn't, and of course out of all of them it was Norf. The so-called club that has gone so well with all of the "professionals" they've had. As if no person outside of a club has been bang on in spite of professionals elsewhere. Carn mate. A likely top 4 pick is in the certainty range regardless of what draft it's in. Even in some of the worst drafts the best players have been taken in that range.
Ive never acted like everyone was offering F1s for 27 at all. But north wouldve been offering their F1 for nothing back earlier, yes. Ive also acted as if that was required to get it done. It was under the presumption that someone was well rated by club and also probably filling a need and the understanding of quality draft this year compared to next with academies

If its initially pick 4 for Matt Whitlock + 19

Which say becomes

Pick 7 for Whitlock and 22 really a huge issue. Obviousily they didnt think so. Also taking into account a player Z now is worth more than player Z in 12 months time

eth-dog, your the math wizard with draft points etc

if Saint Kilda bid on Kako with 7 and we still had 9 + our 2024 second. What pick would we have got back anyways?
So if bid comes at 10 likely wouldve and we had held 11 and not traded it, which wouldnt occur

Then wed get back pick 55

Have 31, 53 and 55

I get that this is all hindsight and maybe Rosa didn’t want to take the risk, but

As i said we wouldve got very very good offers on the night for 9 turn 11

It was pick 11 in the end vs 27 and we got some current 2nds out of it aswell. North also got the best F2 which has to be seen as pick 19

A lot of Mick Ablett smooth brained stuff in the last 15 pages of this thread. "Hindsight" doesn't show we did a bad pick trade. That's not how counterfactuals work.

The way the first round panned out vindicated Rosa's strategy. We've cut some good deals and are now positioned to bring in some solid 2nd round talent to add to Kako, and we've pocketed an extra F1. Not only did we effectively hedge our risk, but we have ended up with more capital than we started with. Straight up good business.

Real option to move upto a dogs or eagles pick, the dogs need more picks otherwise their just picking absolute last in draft

37 and 39 for dogs 29 is enticing. Will they get offered more? Maybe. Maybe we can swap F2s aswell

Otherwise im very confident dogs and tigers dont pick a KPF and they have 3 of the next 4 picks

Likewise offering similar to eagles. They may be happy with that spot and take a KPF

But fans with Allen, Waterman, B.Williams, J.Williams and Archer Reid last year dont believe its necessarily a need. Only thing moving into this spot would be done after that 1st pick 2nd round

All depends om where we rate them as ive always said

If we rate them 11 then any F1 straight would be an offer we are willing to end up at

If we have them at 20 then maybe want something back and handing over Dees F1 instead ect

There is a very good chance clubs like us and Geelong had F1s on table but clubs for many reasons didnt want them or in Richmonds case obviousily preferred Norths. We also need an F3 back to be able to do it

Maybe 37 and a future pick for 31 would be enough. Shanahan or Whitlock may still be there.

I know all the talk will be about monster offers coming for Richmond's pick, but I wouldn't be surprised if they hold it and grab someone like Mraz. Would complete a spine rebuild, Sheeds style. Faull, Armstrong, Lalor, Trainor, Mraz. Feels pretty set and forget for ten plus years.

We do not know what happens if we keep 9. It does change the situation having us with a live pick rather than waiting for a bid. Out of interest who is it that we missed out on that makes it too safe ? I liked the safe option as now we get a first round and two second rounds plus two firsts next year.

Pick 10 would have matched the Kako bid at 8 and we'd receive a points value of about 250. Because only one pick was used we don't get any picks back per Se.
Would you be interested in our pick 28 for your picks 37 and 39?
Probably but you probably wouldn't given what North gave you for 27
