Still think Perkins can have an impact in the middle just needs to get consistent
I liked what we did with him late on the wing and he seemed to do okay there considering his confidence and form at the time

A foot soldier on the wing that does the unrewarded up and back running

I hope he can take a step as a power mid/fwd but hes been given plenty of opportunity, with little to no injuries in his career and has only plateaud

We dont have any good left footer users down back outside of a very inexperienced Archie Roberts, who is far from a certainty in that regard

Goal threat? Good to see him kick 14 this year but hes not kicked double digits any other season

Not sure about the whole left footer thing and how much that matters but as of right now the back 7 looks pretty set with 1 spot open for Roberts vs Saad vs Prior + Possibly our FRP

As for Zach think he made it a point of emphasis for himself last year and is his way improved pretty fast.

Draper looks the best mid prospect on the draft to me.
Draper might be a great prospect. I just worry that he’s more of what we have (even if a better version).

Yeh not an absolute must

Every side is very flexabile now. I sortve forgot abour Roberts

I think left footers definitly help and we dont have enough, allows you to access each side of the ground easier. Although Brisbane have none this year in the mid/back half with Coleman out

I think we have 2 open spots

Reid, Mckay, Ridley, Redman and Mcgrath the only locked in 5

If Hobbs and Tstats have good PS then it gives us that avenue a bit more of Zerrett back

I guess I’m expecting/hoping to be a bit taller and have one of Hayes/cox back there as your D7 which would mean you’d always have 2 of McKay/Reid/Hayes/cox on field at any given time

Which would see Ridley playing 100% of his game time as 3rd tall

Then you have a wing or a mid fold back to be that extra defensive rotation

If we’re going to move Merrett out of the midfield he should get moved forward. He’s a pretty good goal threat. Plays with pressure and any decent ball user can play HB
Nah he will get way more physical pressure playing as a small forward than he will defender. If we are moving Merrett out of the middle it’s to prolong his career. He also doesn’t need to be locked into any position, if we aren’t getting much of out of him.

Seems more inside then outside

I swear we used to have not enough inside midfielders and now we have to many and not enough outside ones lol
He’s good inside and out, clean and a beautiful kick. Very complete, very good player.

But he’s that Shiel, Caldwell, Merrett, Hobbs, Parish type of size and I’m not sure he’s so good that you ignore that and pick him anyway.

I do think we lack outside class if we got another mid they would have to be versatile be bale to play on the wing or at the half back

To be honest i am not really sure what we will here and its going to be interesting to see how Matt Rosa does will he take the best available overall or will he take the best overall to suit our current list?

Its never completely one or the other

Its a combination with a greater weighting to one

For me id heavily leans towards just best available. Id prefer Draper over Travaglia/Linday still

Surely it’s a combination of both. At pick 10 you’re likely going to get a pretty good player whoever you pick.

I think it’s about finding synergies with the current list and specifically not stacking negative synergies.

one of the biggest issues with the current side is how so much of the talent overlaps rather then multiplies it’s effectiveness

For instance I’d be shocked if he drafted a small mid at pick 10.

Wouldn’t be surprised if he took a ruck or SF if all the best balanced midsize mids were gone

Not sure we would chase a ruck unless its a very late pick or its a KF/RUCK

Personally I’d be pretty suprised if we don’t select Bo Allen at pick 10

basically a perfect fit in terms of need and expected to go around there or a bit later.

Bo is a 190cm defensive mid/3rd tall intercept defender with a booming (and accurate) left foot) and a physical play style.

Bonus points for being state captain for WA and looks physically ready for AFL.

Main negative from my limited view of his highlights is can be prone to a bad decision when taking the game on. But I’d back out coaches to tidy that up.

Based on what is written about them I want Lalor and then Allen in that order.

Unless Smillie runs something ridiculous at the combine, he’s going to slide. Too slow, gets caught and in the afl you can’t just ragdoll people.

The draft combine will be pretty important this year:

Ashcroft - is he quick enough?
Murphy Reid - is he a gulden type runner or a parish?
FOS - is his athletic profile point of difference?
Travaglia - if he blitz’s it how far could he move up?
Jagger Smith - what’s his athletic point of difference for a smaller mid
Smillie - he’s slow, but does he have a big tank - some other point of difference
Langford - same thing as Smillie
Sid Draper - is he Chad Warner level explosive?
Lindsay - similar to Travaglia, if he does well athletically I reckon he could really shoot up the board (ie nails the 2km)

Fascinating year!

I’m worried Stkilda or Melbourne get him in the 3 picks before us. (Assuming band1 compo)

since we don’t really have the capital to trade up.
That is why I like to have 3 or 4 players on my list. Not very often we land exactly the guy I want.
