Hampson and 39K left in the bank or no Hampson and 86K left in the bank? if i go without him then theres potential to upgrade a rookie such as Palmer straight to a gun whos price has fallen if Palmer can get his price up at 260 or 270

thanks

i am struggling to choose my 4 rookies in my (mid) i have a few in mind Morton/Palmer/Tuck/Houli/Morton/Bird who do u think

Really tough question - one that I'm struggling with too. I think I'm going to go with percentages, who you think will play in the opening rounds, not necessarily who is the best player. I have a rookie or two in the starting line-up (one in the mids) so I need to upgrade asap. At the end of the day, they are a means to an end, cash cows for an upgrade then rolled over into another rookie who starts later (Cotchin anyone?)

The rookies I'm leaning towards are Muston, Palmer and Bird, with one on the field. Hopefully all will get a game week one, but you never know.

Anyone else have thoughts on this? Im all ears.

Hampson is worth every penny IMO. His price will go up dramaticly if he can cement his place in the Carlton ruck duo. He looks very mobile from what I saw from him at TD last w/e and could potentialy be the McIntosh of 07.

Don't think he will be McIntosh of 07, hope he is though, but he is definately definately worth his price and is a must IMO.

Really? I'm having the opposite problem. I'm struggling to make room for all the young players I want! Including (some) you mentioned.

Nathan Thompson, Treadrea(has had a great summer,by all reports) or Dew??? one spot left
Let me answer your question with another question:
Who would you take out of the following: a) an old fart b) an old fart or c) an old fart ?

11pm tonight mate :D
I heard from a reliable sauce that it opens at 1am tomorrow morning. ;)

quick question.
upgrade fraser to cox OR
upgrade franklin to pavlich OR
upgrade symes to drummond OR
upgrade douglas to hall/didak

unsure as to what to do. a ranking from 1-4 would also help thx

If you're considering Franklin I would not have him in the starting team. If you look at his score fluctuations last year IMO you will get several opportunities to trade him in cheaper than his starting price.

thoughts on my team stucture

Backs
4 Guns (if you count goddard as a gun)
2 mid price
1 rookie

Centres
4 expensive premium Guns(400+)
1 mid price player
1 cheap player
1 rookie

Rucks
1 Gun (ottens, gun ?)
1 cheap player

Forwards
4 Guns (if cloke is a gun)
2 cheap players
1 rookie
What is your definition of a "gun"? You seem to have quite a few is all. Having said that your structure looks ok but personally I dont see it necessary to spend so much on the centres, there is quality for those on a budget, thus allowing more quality forward and back plus yo can get Cox from the outset!

The problem is fitting them all in the mids. When you look at a couple of guns, Stevens, Dyson, Cogs and anyone else you like it fills up pretty quickly.

True, but if you're a glass half full kinda guy then its equally as true that he could have an absolute blinder (8 goals or the like, plenty of marks, most disposals are kicks) and he might peak at well over 450k, allowing you to trade for a more consistant (and cheaper!) gun forward for a profit!
By having him from the start (if you're willing to run the risk of a downer early and subsequent price drop) you eliminate the risk of missing the boat! Its a bit of a toss up, and I guess which way you go would depend on pre-season form and who the Hawks play early on-both of which I need to check out ;)

Too true brother, I could only just fit in Cross (hes my most expensive mid) and had to ditch Reilly, which Im not entirely sure about. Theres so much depth in the mids this year and $150-200k is surely not worth 15ppg? Thoughts?

Exactly thats why i think you shouldn't have more than two players priced over 400k in the centres

Good call and hard to argue the point. I guess I still have memories of last year picking up Riewoldt and J. Brown at 310K and 320K after some wet days and injuries and would hope to get Lance in (permanently) at a little cheaper price during the season.

I guess it also depends on what you want to do with Buddy. Personally I see him as a kind of expensive cash cow who will also score me some good points in the mean time but because of his inconsistancy I'm reluctant (though tempted!) to give him a full time spot in my team.Having him from the start I'm willing to ride out any price drops because I'll only trade him out when theres a healthy profit on hand and his price has peaked (locally).
You're spot on about waiting for him to come down in price for that permanent spot though, put simply its going to happen sometime ;)

The only risk is that those wet days/injuries may not come. Saints have something like first 8/9 games at the Dome and there are very rarely wet games at Subi... if they dont drop in price then you may have to pay full price or even higher if their averages improve or even miss the boat altogether if u cant afford them both

Agree 100%. IMO team balance is really about where you see the value. The obvious value in the mids this year is in the rookies and <250K players. In the backs, I see little value in the 150K - 300K range so I am trying to steer clear of this area.

I dont see why people think its necessary to have atleast 1 rookie in each position except for Rucks ofcourse. It'll hurt ALOT if you pick the wrong ones, which is bound to happen. Personally i'm only going to start 1 rookie, its a risk, but a small one, 2 is a bit more of a risk, but its not big enough to completely ruin your team, Starting 3 is a huge risk.. if they go wrong then you're throwing away trades early. Especially with a lack of quality rookies this season, compared to last season

Thats the way i see it, just throwing in my two cents

Sorry S4B, I wasn't really clear. I was actually talking about Franklin but using those 2 guys last year as an example.

No risk no rewards!!!

I guess this is where research comes into it as if you load up with rookies and Guns then you have less players to upgrade in the end and more scope for cash increases.......

You really need to have a look at your team and count how many guys you have to upgrade to have yr team set....This is where you need to be honest, because if you think that Symes or Mattner or the likes won't need upgrading in the future yr going to be out the back door.....Which doesnt matter if your playing just for the Raw Talent Kindy League!!!

Quick fire thoughts on similar priced guys:

Kennelly or Mattner or Lovett-Murray?
Harry Taylor or Scott Selwood?
Bird or Cale Morton?
Vince or M Campbell (Kangas)?
Henderson or Seller?
