When is the right time to start upgrading using cash made by players like Palmer, Morton or someone like Symes and Mattner?'

I know there is no real answer to this, but just to thinking about when to trade is driving me insane.

I guess I will know when the time is right.

:D It's a combination of things really, mainly, tracking when they have "topped out", but on the flip side, tracking someone to trade into...

When those stars align, it's time to trade. :)

You start trading when your cash cows have generated enough money to get you the player you require, a big gun has 2 monster drop off games and is about to head back up in price or when the players price has peaked, your cash cow is like Hansen last year plays 2 games poorly, gets dropped and may never come back into the squad so you catch the best thing in his position with 2 games also under the belt.

Others may recommend trading to preserve cash i.e Pavlich scores 20 and 14 in the first 2 rounds so you trade him out for another player. I am not a fan of this as Pavlich is someone you know will bounce back and will either trade back in later wasting not 1 but 2 trades on 1 player or you miss out on one of the highest scoring forwards in the comp wasting a trade.

Yep never trade out a gun. Look at Chad Cornes last year.

Struggling to decide between Hayes and Thompson. Both going to have massive years i reckon but there's a 30k difference between them, which could be spent wisely somewhere else. Thoughts??

Hayes

We havnt really seen how Thompson can handle a tag

Good answer GUp. Use Riewoldt as an example last year. He played a game in the wet in Adelaide and scored 20-30 points. This factored in to his price for the next 3 weeks by which time he was down to about 320K. Perfect time to trade him in and naturally enough his price exploded. JBrown also got down to 320K before he cut loose in the 2nd half.

The time will present itself, you just need to be aware of how the 3 week rolling average will impact the players price.

Thompson won't be tagged, and if he is I'd imagine he will do more than well. He is also very dangerous in the forward line, if it is a hard tag he can just go forward and he will beat his man.

That being said, I really like Hayes this year.

Last year i pick up J.Brown at 330K and Riewoldt at 320K, also got H.Shaw at somewhere in the mid 200K's. Most players will have a price slump at some stage, not all, but most. It might only be by 30K but it might be by 150K.

But planning when to pick up these sort of bargins is impossible. You just have to hope you have the spare cash or matured cash cow peak at the right time. I suppose this is where a small bit of luck comes in. The better teams always seem to have maturing cows at this time.

That's true when trading in the guns. You also need to look at the rookie's price. This is where you need to know their break even price. That is the score they need to get to keep the same price. If your rookie has increased in price to say $200,000 and their average has been 50 and their breakeven is say 80 they will prbably go down in value the next week and sometimes the following weeks. So in summary it's the gun bottoming out and rookies peaking that make it an ideal time to trade.

Any thoughts guys? 30k in bank

if i were to have a rookie starting in my midfield would that be sensible if it was one of:

Masten
McNamara
Bird

can someone give me some feedback thanks...

Brock McLean anyone?
Suspended from leadership group, may step up to redeem himself??
Bruce will still get no1 tag, may leave him free to get some good points. Seems as if he has had a good preseason according to Melbourne. He is the only midfielder i would consider around that price bracket (any suggestions would be appreciated).;)
