But all that stuff is useless if the gameplay is woeful
I can guarantee you that if this AFL game is using a new engine (which is should be, considering its the first next gen game) it will not have an in depth career mode at all. The first edition is about getting a game with solid gameplay (which is what I think DBC achieved) and then you add all the other bells and whistles in future editions

Yes, but isn't DBC 17 the first one on next Gen console. If they could do it why not WW.

Im just saying that Rugby Challenge 3 might of looked good but it there are a lot of countries around the world who will get the game. With AFL Evolution the only country it's going too is Australia and Wicked Witch don't really have to blow a lot of money on something only Australians will buy so all we are hoping is they will make an improvement on AFL LIVE 2

Decided to have another crack at Live 2 and played out one of the best derbies I've ever experienced in a game, eventually won 118-117

While there'a a hell of a lot that's not good and needs an overhaul there is potential and a number of areas that work better than Live 1

Gameplay:Mostly negatives here but I have always liked how the players collide and interact with one another when in a pack and also how the ball can be knocked off hands when trying to get a handball out

I think one area WW nailed was the rolling maul nature of modern footy,it feels really good after 3 or 4 ball ups after small gains to string together some handballs and work your way out of the pack.

and the fact that Live 2 has some actually competitive(if not overly accurate) Ai is a nice change of pace from the constant 60+ point wins on Live 1

Graphics:Live 2 has to easily be the best looking AFL game ever, big name players look almost identical to their real life counterparts and the lighting effects to represent the time of day looks great(something even DBC 14 and now 17 seem to struggle with)
that twilight lighting looks particularly great.
If only the animations looked anywhere near realistic

The twilight does look good I'll give it that

I really hated the blurred feature of the crowds and stadiums though. It's like they figured they couldn't get the detail looking nice enough so they just blurred it out.

I don't have high hopes for AFL Evolution - my high hope is that it'll be a good time and have good (not just ok) online support... it would be stupid for Tru Blu not to be gunning for some sort of Ultimate-Team mode, they're the reason sports games are so profitable these days, microtransactions in general are a huge part of the gaming landscape, that being said - Tru Blu never ceases to amaze me with their complete detachment and lack of care when it comes to releasing a game. I'm not particularly a big fan of ult-team, but above all I hope that AFL:E has a loyal and consistent player base, playing with a 5 star custom team was basically the only way to be competitive back when AFL Live 1 was a thing, let's hope we don't go back to that.

Ruck contests and set shots are pretty much the only thing a developer has gotten right with an AFL game before, it's always felt pretty arcadey in nature and I doubt that'll change - the reason be a pro has never worked for an AFL game is because every AI player on the field has done the exact same thing, there's no method or skillset to tackling, spoiling or roving, just timing and button presses.

One of the best things about Rugby League Live 3 was the FanHub. Players could create and upload players and teams for everyone to use. Was great fun choosing the best sides from the modern era and playing against your mates!

If there was an AFL equivalent it would be unreal, imagine playing a round robin comp with the 3peat teams Geelong, Hawthorn and Brisbane. Or West Coast 05 vs Sydney 12. Or even creating draft teams to see which year was the strongest, eg the 2001 super draft 22 vs the 2013 stars of the future....

What could have been....

That is the strength of Big Ant. Both cricket and rugby league had a community based fan hub and anyone could create any player....hence no need for licensing. Can't wait for the new Don Bradman Cricket where you can already create your own players, boundary signs, stadiums, uniforms etc etc.....imagine that in a AFL game!

Haven't played it for ages, but from memory the AI wasn't that great, they just had superpowers while the player was completely nerfed. They were kicking snags from 80m on the full while the player doing a perfect kick with Tex Walker would be lucky to travel 30m.

Oh yeah don't get me wrong the Ai was insanely accurate at goal and overpowered from time to time but they were definitely more competitive around stoppages and within packs.

Live 1 as much as it got right it was ridiculously easy to win the ruck, tap straight to a midfielder and just long bomb it to chf (especially as Freo)

I just expect it to be another dud like every non Big Ant Football game. :D

I felt live 2 was easier to win the ruck. I figured out a cheat where you could win the ruck tap every time! All you have to do is change selected player to a mid and if the ruckman is good enough it will hit it straight to ya. I also hated how the CHB would run in to the centre and leave the CHF on their own.

Myclub from PES is the only mode I play on that game. Same as when I have had Fifa. It is the most fun mode in a sports game ever. I still don't think we will see this type of mode anytime soon. It would actually require WW or Big Ant to maintain the game game on a weekly basis :p

That CHB leaving his man did my head in(not as much as the bench glitch that sends Tommy Sheridan into the ruck and makes it nigh on impossible to get Sandi back in)

The positive is with no sub rule we won't have to worry about the game crashing when you try to put the sub (apparently this is the hardest feature to implement in an AFL game
