Big Ant are totally welcome to build an Aussie Rules game much like they did with Donald Bradman Cricket. If they think they can build a far better game than what Wicked Witch are putting up, there's nothing stopping them from putting their names out there. Sure, it might take a sequel to get a bigger audience, but the option is there. No point in acting like Big Ant are unable to create an Aussie Rules game, they simply can't use the AFL license.

Hard to say without knowing the deal between Wicked Witch and the AFL. It may involve an exclusivity clause. Similar to how EA have with the NFL.

Best crowds in an AFL game bar none. Lifelike, fully 3D, not just going up in one motion, no random flags floating in mid air. Not every single person in the crowd is wearing a guernsey – that's way more accurate. Plenty of dark clothes, hoodies, vests, long sleeved tops, jeans. A few guernseys scattered here and there. That's a Melbourne winter for you. Kudos to WW on this one.

Agreed with pretty much everything in your post bar this. It looks like 65% of the crowd is made up of the guys in the black jacket+beanie combo in the bottom left. It's a little jarring to me, kind of like Mootsy's abuse of ellipses once you see it you can't unsee it. Fortunately I don't really give a shit about how the crowds look, will undoubtedly still buy. How the crowd sounds will be more interesting

Too true! Look at PES, when they started they had little to no licensed teams but still gathered a following with superior gameplay. Like DBC they could have just left the players to recreate real life teams and players to suit.

Not true as FIFA doesn't have exclusive rights to football, 2k used to make NFL games but stopped after not matching EA (but totally smashed NBA2k past EAs NBA live) and even after the failed Ashes official cricket game release Big Ant still released DBC.
If Big Ant would like to create a unofficial Auzzie Rules game I'm petty sure they could just without the licensing but it would be without the AFLs help and financial backing. Start crowd funding people and in about a decade it may happen, otherwise if WW nail this we could be saying Big who?

The problem is it could wreck their relationship with Tru Blu, if they were to make a rival Football game.

Not just their relationship with Tru Blu but would also get the AFLs nose out of joint.
Not to mention having two competing AFL games is ridiculous.
There's just not the market to sustain even one properly.
A non licensed one going up against a licensed one wouldn't do any good. Even if it were better.

I messaged AFL Evolution on facebook (before trailer) about the set shot kicking and how they were controlled and if the physics were changed. They said the physics of the goal kicking "changed a bit."

I'm about to post an updated AFL Evolution Player ratings list on the player ratings thread for those who wish to change the ratings to a more accurate representation of the players abilities. I will post the lists on the Player ratings thread in two ways. Sorted by rating alone and then sorted in ratings by team.

Oh..... yay

Oh..... yay
Well I'd rather take GTL's ratings than WW's if I'm being honest.

But then again I think I'll just adjust them myself when the game comes out.

Changed a bit, or rebuilt from the ground up?

EA have an exclusive license to make NFL games, hence why 2k don't make it anymore.

There's also the gift and the curse of the exclusive NFL and NFL Players Association license.

While EA is the only company allowed to produce a game with real NFL teams and players, it is also bound by certain restrictions from the No Fun League. Off-the-field storylines like the ones we see in NBA 2K's MyCareer mode aren't likely to be allowed in an NFL game.

I never mentioned FIFA as there's PES out there but they have license to some teams and competitions anyway.

If 2k won't attempt to make an unlicensed NFL game, I can't imagine a smaller development team having the budget set aside to make a game for an even smaller market.

So we're two weeks out from AFL Evolution and even though none of us have played it, certain people are saying BigAnt should come along and make another Aussie Rules game to rival it, be better than it and eventually make AFL games again?

2 weeks out......the logic on this board sometimes..

2 weeks and 1 day from now you will be calling for them to return also. Most believe the Game play will be a let down, which basically makes everything we have seen so far irrelevant. If it looks like AFL live 2 with improved graphics, smells like AFL Live 2 with improved graphics it will probably taste like AFL Live 2 with improved graphics....yuk

Firstly....learn how to count. The games is 18 days away.
Secondly...you have a choice how you live your life...glass half full or glass half empty.
Most people in this forum spend their life running to the tap to fill up!

Completely disagree
I would say the majority on here think the game looks quite good

We can't make a call on the gameplay until we've played it of course but the trailer has eased worries about WW and gameplay to some extent

We needed big ant to set the standard back in 2011 but if Evolution plays well then it's easily the best AFL game to date (nothing else would come close)

This is from the tips.dat game file:
SET SHOTS
When you take a mark or are awarded a free kick near the goals` you can elect to take a set shot by pressing [GOAL_KICK] While in the set shot mode your kicks are affected by wind speed and direction. Adjust your aim by panning the camera with the [LEFT_STICK] Then hold [RIGHT_STICK] back to charge your kick and flick it forward to release. Flicking the [RIGHT_STICK] to the left or right will add additional curve to the ball.
Can't see anything in there about the physics model it uses though.

Cant wait for this game. Will be super fun playing with mates.

How many copies do this realistically expect to sell? 50k? Obviously not much money in it so very happy someone has a crack regardless.
There are over 850,000 club memberships, meaning that only 5% of people with club memberships would be buying the game
I would expect that figure to be a bit higher
