AFL LIVE PASS - WHAT A JOKE!

Does anyone use the apple "lightning to hdmi" adaptor for this? If so what is the quality like? I am thinking of getting one but $75 for a cable seems a bit rich. I could also run ipad through laptop and into tv with a "mini display port to hdmi" cable, which is about $12. Just wondering if anyone has tried either and which would have the better result.
Yes. I use the official Apple lightning to HDMI cable. It's complete rubbish. It's not a straight signal feed. There is a chip in the body of the cable that processes the conversion from the phone. The result is a very low quality feed. I often also have the video freeze on me a couple times per quarter which requires getting up to unplug, wait a couple seconds and then reconnect. Using the charger port to charge your phone (necessary if you're watching a full game) at the same time makes this bug occur more often.

Unless you can get the cable for less than $15 I would look elsewhere for a solution.

I think if a more user friendly solution can be worked out for watch afl and if you're prepared to pay the price it will be a really good service. It doesnt have the restrictions livepass does and its much better quality. Depends what you're after i guess.

yep! Currently waiting, going to send them an email tonight and see what's going on, although a few people seemed to have answered the question on the previous 2-3 pages.

Already did that last Friday and got this response....
Hi Greg,

yes this is a new service. Vouchers for Club Memberships are due to go out early next week. In the meantime, we don't want you to miss the matches that are on this weekend and there is a free live stream available here http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-02-04/aflw-round-one-watch-it-live

So for anyone looking to subscribe to the WatchAFL pass, it looks to be way cheaper to get it via a club membership. Fox are charging €149 or £149 or $149USD or $189AUD.

The Fox Sports pass is annual, 365 days. I guess the club pass voucher ends on 1st November (it was on the Port membership site, and I recall the Lions pass last year's was only 6 months). If you need a summer footy fix, then buying the pass direct could be the better option.

If you just want the pass and don't give a crap for the club, here's the cost each club is charging for the watchAFL membership. It is worth taking a look at the additional stuff they throw in with the membership. Carlton for example offer 2 general admission tickets, Geelong offer a $50 voucher for the Cats Shop.

Adelaide Crows: $155
Brisbane Lions: $170
Carlton: $170
Collingwood: $175
Essendon: $155
Fremantle: $150
Gold Coast Suns: $168
Geelong Cats: $160
GWS Giants: $158
Hawthorn: $179
Melbourne: $215
North Melbourne: $185
Port Adelaide: $165
Richmond: $170
St Kilda: $170
Sydney Swans: $205
Western Bulldogs: $185
West Coast Eagles: $170

Anyone with a Telstra account who can't cast to the TV from their phone, PM me and I'll let you know a good way to do it.

Just on this, I think this should work for international people too who know someone back in Australia with a Telstra AFL Live Pass account. All you need is the username and password. I could probably post the info on here but I'm paranoid that it might get shutdown.

So it sounds like existing Telstra customers can sign into the afl app for live streaming - any idea whether that would apply to new customers?

I just rang foxtel about a new platinum deal they had , then i tried telstra to compare turns about because I already had a Telstra bundle with my internet that they are doing a new bundle for the same pricing including foxtel. And there current promo is 3 months free sports HD so i will only need to pay for sports package after 3 months.I need to pay $35 a month post promo so all up its only going to cost me $105 and $70 if saints don't make finals!
surely someone is going to say $70 is pretty cheap and all you'll need :p

The whole streaming area is very unclear whether or not you can watch AFL games on your PC, extremely unhelpful on Foxtel and Telstra's website.
In Australia you technically can't. However, if you have a VPN you can use the WatchAFL service. $150 for the year that comes along with Fox footy, match replays, and AirPlay

Why on earth can't you do it in Australia?
The AFL and Fox Footy is pretty much the sole reason why Foxtel is alive. So, Foxtel really want you to buy their cable service. Not stream it.

Fun fact: Foxtel play, the IPTV streaming service for Foxtel now has all of their channels in HD, except for one channel. Which channel is that? Fox Footy.

Are people saying that you can't cast the watchafl app to smart tv?

I am OS and it will not cast to my LG smart tv.
You should be able to cast it. Works with my iPad & Apple TV.

I find Telstra streaming overseas to be terrible - unwatchable. Anything hosted by Telstra sucks for me.

Thanks. I am going Samsung Phone to LG TV. Other apps cast but the watchafl app doesn't find my TV. I have tried the support service but haven't had much luck first.

There would very likely be something in the webpage code preventing that. You would be better off just loading the site using the browser on the TV

WatchAFL doesn't site doesn't work with the Opera browser that is loaded on most smart TV's. You can get to the site, but video won't steam.

Best solution I came up with - play it though a laptop and plug your laptop into the TV via HDMI. I teamed it up with an air mouse and wireless keyboard, works brilliantly.
This is the airmouse I use: http://amzn.to/2ljnAe8
