Cheers for that - i have an existing vpn i use - hopefully that will work

Is the feed in sd or hd do you know?

The current afl live is in fairly shitty resolution
Hmmmmthe feed is of a substantially better quality than afl live - 1280x720 at $132 usd per year

I would suggest that foxtel have forced this issue to try to get more people on fox

If we abandon afl live for the international version we get to **** rupert over some more

Please confirm!

Can I get the AFL app on my iPhone and run a cable to my TV to watch the footy this year? If so, which cable (I am a complete luddite, any help appreciated). From what I have read Airplay is not an option anymore(?).

Cheers

I was reading on thefoxtel forums that even the cable doesnt work

I got it to work with airplay yesterday using mirroring but it only uses 1/2 the screen

The method demonic ascent mntioned with watchafl.afl.com.au in conjunction with a vpn is a better option anyway as it offers better quality streaming

I use hotspot shield on my ipad and that wnet through to the site no problems

I used Hola for the NAB Challenge and it worked fine, picture is decent too - only issue was during the Hawks/Pies game it would get an "error" message at every break (1/4 time etc) and I'd have to reload the page.

I also had trouble viewing replays for instance I wanted to go back and watch the 3rd quarter of the Melb/Freo game but the replays wouldn't work. I tried it several times over a week and it never worked. The 24/7 stream and the live games all worked fine though, not sure if the replay issue was just me or what??

Picture quality is far superior to the local one though I think the local one is 380p or something which when upscaled to a TV looks shocking. This was 720p I'm pretty sure which was as good as or even better than Channel 7's shitty SD. The only issue was it was a bit "jittery/jumpy" which could get annoying but for the price it was fine and I think sitting back a bit from the TV would improve that issue.

How shitty was it using that crappy free vpn?

I wonder whether it will get sevens shitty downscaled then upscaled for fox signal or the actual feed in the regular season when seven cover it

There are four settings, auto, 400kb/s (about, can't remember the exact figure), 800kb/s (about) and 3000 kb/s (about). The last one is HD but I set mine to auto as the stream is a little buggy but not too bad. Most of the time it will stream fine in HD but I have optical fibre so ymmv.

Nah i was more talking about what they will receive rather than what they will stream out

Foxtel receives sevens feed in sd but upscale it to hd - its not true hd however its a software interpolation and isnt as good as hd

Im wondering if seven will be sending the same downscaled vision

Woyld be a shit look - i dont think the rest of the civilised world and a large portion of the uncivilised world have watched sport in anything but hd for over a decade now

Seems the AFL has blocked using Chromcast to watch this on the TV. Assholes
Foxtel has television rights. You can't complain too much if they block the app on tv at this stage. You'll have to wait for the next rights deal.

Just be grateful we can watch the app on iPad and computer without shelling out for Foxtel.

I know it won't suit everyone but I just use the app and watch on a tablet or even my iPhone 6+.
Pair of headphones on and I don't bug my woman who hates footy, I watch at the beach or down the coffee shop, basically anywhere thats nice to sit.
It won't work for people who watch footy with friends and family but if you mostly prefer to watch alone like me its great.

When is the next rights deal?

If its not hd all the way every single game im going to lose my shit.

I dont mind if you have to pay for hd and fta gets sd - but there has to be a streaming option - not ****ing rupertel

The afl has to realise that the foxtel business model is a dead man walking.

Hope netflix comes in and trumps them one day

The thing is it worked in round 1 but in round 2 wouldn't work anymore...shows the incompetency of the AFL

So we can't even watch replays for free on the afl website anymore? Says I need a live pass... what a joke

Yeah I'm really pissed the AFL has hidden this service behind a paywall. I think it's a sneaky tactic to try and get more people signing up to Foxtel. They must think we're all morons.

Does anyone think it sucks that the AFL have blocked Foxtel from including AFL games on their Foxtel Go app ?

Why should I pay an extra $90 for AFL Live if I'm already paying a monthly subscription to Foxtel for AFL footy?

They are such greedy muthaf**kas

They can all go to hell….

Huh? I watched brisbane/Richmond and Essendon/Carlton on GO yesterday
