AFL LIVE PASS - WHAT A JOKE!

I believe your assessment of the industry will be close to the money.

I know nothing except 25 years in the industry and without a doubt streaming is the future, sport, everything.

Just have to vent this....

Went onto AFL website to get an AFL live pass. They have a free 4 week trial on for the NAB cup at the moment.

So I go through the steps, email confirmation, all good.

Then I have to put my credit card details in so that they can charge after the trial period - fine. Key in the numbers on 6 occasions and every time it comes out with a timed out error.

That is not what I am angry about. What really pissed me off is the 3 people in 3 different countries I spoke to in an attempt to resolve this.

Firstly I contacted the support that was listed on the AFL confirmation email. That sounded like India and the woman had no idea what I was talking about.

Step 2 - she transfers me to someone that can help me. This time it's an American, but I suspect it was in Singapore. She also had no idea but was adamant she would transfer me to someone that could help.

Next thing I get Trent from AFL membership. He's surprised to be receiving my call and says he can't help. He must have been on his way to the pub because he was super keen to try and transfer me to reception even after I told what a joke this was.

What a shambles that is, I don't think I'll bother with the Live pass - I've heard the reception is often crap anyway.

Valid rant complete.

Then once you finally get it, you find it's in 360p or something. Haven't they realized most smart phones are full HD these days.

As they say though, you get what you pay for, so I'm not surprised $5 gets you not much.

So I'm looking at getting the international live pass but it seems like everyone is having problems with the service.

Last time I was OS for a while it was pretty easy to find other sources of live streaming. Are they still out there? Or is it better to cough up the €99 and hope it works?

Have had a few issues with it this preseason on my iPad, but switched to my laptop and it seemed to work fine.

For what it's worth, I've previously used the international live pass from a couple of different continents at various points over the last few years, and have generally been happy with the service. As I'm going to be overseas for most of this year, I intend to purchase the year-long pass before the season proper begins.

Nope, just Samsung phone with chromecast on the tv, mirror everything over. Quality isn't great, but it's watchable for sure and much cheaper than foxtel.
My samsung tablet doesn't work. Freezes. Go isn't enabled on HTC phones either, which sucks.

Thanks for that. You also answered another query I had about using it on Mac and pad. I want to be able to use both

One thing I'd like to stress about the live pass and people saying it works fine on "crappy" 4G is

4G is actually faster than the Australian average home broadband connection.

You really do need a proper connection to make use of it.

In my opinion if you're on an adsl or adsl2+ connection in Australia. Forget about it.

Used the app all last year and mirrored through apple TV from the iPhone - which is a lot smoother than from a laptop. Then last week all of a sudden, the media stopped loading once I went to mirror. First it was just pushing audio through the apple TV home screen, so I had to enable the screen copy function (pain in the dick if you get notifications), and then this weekend they've cancelled the ability to push through the apple TV all together. Really shitty if you're a fan of a bottom 8 club and live in Sydney.

Weighing up my options now - don't REALLY want to fork out $50/month for foxtel on the xbox but fast realising it might be my only option to see 6 months of action. Which is a ****ing rort.

Apple IPhone Lightning HDMI adapters are $70 and a one off purchase I would strongly advise making to get connect your phone straight to the TV without Telstra messing you around.

I have had zero problems since doing this.

might be your connection Paur. What connection do you have?

mines been working perfectly sofar.

I was on WiFi, I ended up finding a live stream elsewhere on reddit and watched it no problems (on the same wifi) - aside from port losing.

How long after the match has concluded does live pass show replays of the games?
In my experience with the intl pass.

Usually after the next quarter ends.

If you're watching the 3Q Live, 1Q will be available.
Though this was last year.

new idea. currently fox are doing a 2 week free trial of foxtel go/play. so just keep creating new emails and usernames and get 2 weeks free for as long as I can. after that I might just cop the $50 a month. Don't watch a whole lot of EPL, but love league/watch bundesliga on p2p streaming which you can usually get in close to HD if you know the right sites. Also really into the food channel and lifestyle channel as of the last 5 hours

This.

Never fails to amaze me the number of people using the Internet, who either have no idea what sort of connections they have, or how they work. Obviously not everyone is a tech-head who knows (or cares), but the general public's lack of understanding (and expectations that arise from this) is as big a problem with internet services in Australia as much as anything else.
