Thanks, any mention if this satisfies swans or if they'll keep pushing the restriction of trade line?
There is no comment from the Swans other than this from Tom Harley: “There’s no formal changes to the restrictions at the moment”

If this was to be true, then I'd say the Swans would just need to weigh up whether they're likely to target anyone over $500k this year. If not, there is no real point continuing to fight it.

All I can see is;

Swans to win back trading powers
Sydney appear certain to win a running battle with the AFL to be allowed to compete during next month’s player-exchange period on a level close to equal footing with all other clubs. The Swans have argued their case has changed dramatically

It's amazing what a few injuries can do to perceptions.

This idea that the Swans were able to somehow magically subvert the cap was weaved by Eddie and gladly drunken by most of the AFL.

And now that his work is playing out he slinks back to his $12m mansion and pretends he has clean hands.

TBH, I've had more than the passing thought that Eddie has used this opportunity to try to get us to fight the Trade Ban in Court knowing the implications for the removal of other Player Movement barriers such as the Draft. Once player movements were more open, the bigger clubs will benefit most and this in Court would have been the tip of the iceberg IMO.

I've said it before on these boards (maybe the AFL was reading), the 'solution' to all this is simply giving us the ability to replenish (meaning we can trade restricted or contracted players seeking movement), and enable us to trade with other teams so they are able to manage their own lists (so player movement is not impeded by this ridiculous ban as the AFLPA is furious about), while somehow preventing us from landing another Dangerfield style player which is the true reason the ban exists in the first place (no Ryder or Frawley for you!!!).

$500k for one year at least allows us to talk to players who might want to come here - whether it be a Leuenberger, Benell, Talia or whatever. No idea if $500k would be enough to get us over the line, but there it is. At least we can have a discussion with someone looking to join a team still clinging (barely) to a GF window.

But Dangerfield is unattainable. That's win win for the commission and their "you can't have everyone" policy.

A $500k price range has usually landed exactly the sort of player we seek in trade traditionally.

Seriously, it may as well be $600k. The chances of us trading for a premium player are so limited anyway, how can it hurt?

This was a ridiculous argument then and it is a ridiculous argument now.

Hawthorn could have kept Buddy if they wanted - they made a list management decision that they did not want to sacrifice other payers. We made a list management decision that we would sacrifice other players.

That's it.

Then Eddie ignited a world of hate and we have been copping it ever since.

This is a case of self interest and agendas high jacking the decision making process. A poor effort by all concerned.

Ridiculous. AFL Commision. Synonyms?

So whats is the likely scenario? We lose jetta for most likely peanuts and get awarded an extra 150k to spend on contracts?

Scrap the whole ban.

If I may ask, do you know any specifics of the deal? Just interested as to what this deal might be.

I only know what I was told this is a cousin of a cousin works in the footy industry and you hear stuff sometimes true, usually close, never anything too exciting, just saw them at lunch and they said post finals the trade ban will be lifted

Ill pm you what I heard and you can judge for yourself if you want

Me three!!!

So.......umm.........can anyone assist in any further explanation? Missed the PM fest.
Don't bother. Just wait for an official announcement. Even if the rumour is correct, it's not real until it's official from the AFL.

NEWS reporting today no deal done. Same source as yesterday's article - Harley. It's like they did one interview and then wrote two conflicting stories in consecutive days.

Negotiations are ongoing and at a "delicate" stage. So over this shit.

Why are negotiations "delicate" exactly? We're only asking them for permission to do what we should have been able to do in the first place, that is trade like any other club.
