Actually I'm implicitly stating I don't think they were best team and it's got nothing to do with umpiring.

Well why mention umpiring at all then if it had nothing to do with it?

Well by not mentioning umpiring at all, you would have successfully done that...I said I wasn't talking about umpires specifically to avoid derailing my point

What was the point of that? You obviously still haven't gotten over it.I don't think they were best team last year and pretty sure Beveridge said as much also. Skipping over umpire discussions there is a reason the saying "best on the day" exists.
Bont and Libba would be only players id consider top 50 locks

I do think that we were the best team last year, as we won the premiership. But I do agree that based on last year we only really should have two or three players in the top 50, those being Bont, Libba and Wood.Ok so it could've been better worded but I've said intent few times now. You going to discuss anything else in the post?

I wouldn't say Hawthorn were, considering Geelong were far and away the best team during the season. Including the Grand Final, they lost two games that season. Hawthorn lost five overall.Fair enough. I don't think Wood would be lock but wouldn't be out of place.
Liz raised the point earlier of Geelong 08 being best team of that year, which I agree with, based on Hawthorn winning that year do you believe they were the best team that year?

In the 2016 season, the Bulldogs were only two games off top spot during the season, compared to Hawthorn's 4. If you factor in our injuries during the season and the impact they had against us, it would have been either us or Sydney as the best team. It also helps that our team is built for finals footy, which enabled us to win the premiership. It is for these reasons I believe that we were the best team last year.
Completely slipped my mind about GWS, all three teams are probably in the discussion. But I do believe that the Bulldogs were the best and we would have finished top 2 with the same injury luck as other teams. We were able to show what we could do in the finals series as we had close to a full team back from injury. You are right in that 2016 wasn't clear cut. You don't think GWS factors into best team discussions for 2016? Even though we played off in final if prelim match ups swapped one or both of us might not have been there as we struggled as GIants and Dogs vs Cats

Is this agreeing or disagreeing with my original post?
Someone said they were best team and therefore under represented, I'm saying they weren't but still have two players id consider locks - what are you saying

The best team didnt win the GF. Theres nothing controversial about saying that. Doesnt mean they dont deserve the premiership.This. WB are the best team in the AFL, don't think anyone can doubt that, unless you think the best team didn't win the flag somehow. But whilst I'd probably have Dahl in the top 50 as well and even Wood, Bontempelli is the only one you'd say with confidence is an absolute lock to be top 50 in the league, let alone potentially top 5. But if there was a top 100 or even top 150 list you could put your house on the fact that WB would probably have 15 players in it. Their depth is enormous and they don't rely on a small handful of blokes to win them games, it's a genuine 22 man effort week in week out - would be extremely difficult to rank their players best to worst each week.
Was criminally under rated as a Hawk and probably would have had 3 more AA's if he'd worn hoops. That's because Mitchell plays for West Coast now if he was still playing for Hawthorn he would be in the top 10 and also Kennedy the current coleman medalist should be higher than Sloane and Martin.
Of the home and away season for sure, of the finals NO.Meh. I don't think there is a supporter in the world who doesn't think Geelong were the best team of 2008.
Not saying they aren't the best, but you defiantly dont have to be the best team to win the flag. Injuries, suspensions, bad form, travel, luck can all effect a game in a way the best team doesn't win.This. WB are the best team in the AFL, don't think anyone can doubt that, unless you think the best team didn't win the flag somehow. Depends on whether the players were asked to state who they think are currently the best players (ie based on recent form) or who they think will be by the end of the season. Bontempelli clearly has the most upside of those in the top echelon, based on his age, so it's not silly to suggest he might be on the best half-dozen players by the end of 2017. But I agree with you that, right now, his output is behind many of those the players have rated below, simply because he's not been doing it for as long (and thus as consistently). This comment will probably get a lot of hate but Bontempelli has been overrated in my eyes. Averaged 24 Disposals and a Goal (Clearances and Contested ball are above average).
But GAJ, Martin, Kennedy, Parker and Sloane are all better and proven mids than him. Top 20 I would probably accept, but top 10 and even potentially top 5 is overrated.
