Yeah, fair enough. As soon as I posted it I though, 'Oh hang on, I am going to get smashed for this..". Withdrawn.

I also don't think this weekend's game it the most important game of our season. Sure, it will be nice if we win, but if we don't it is not the end of the world, as we won't finish top 4 anyway.

Agreed but a win would continue the confidence build up. Important for BF pies board mass hysteria also.

Out - Grundy

In - Hudson

Come at me dave ;)

Absolutely no chance of Grundy being dropped and nor should he. Thought he was super tonight. Cannot see Jolly coming back in given he couldn't complete a reserves game and was beaten buy Cameron Wood last week. Hardly a ringing endorsement for a call up.

I think we rest grundy and JT this week as the above poster said, it's 2 6 day breaks and interstate travel.

Bring jolly in an see how he goes. Plays well an he stays in, plays badly and it's most likely his last game for the pies. Bring the seed in for JT

dropping those games against port, gcs and freo are really gonna hurt.

oh wells, just means we have to win 3 finals in a row. at least now we keep the momentum without having a week off after the first final if we had made top 4. :p

If any team is going to win the GF from out side the top 4,this could be the year.
Your mob is looking deadly. You'll get a real gauge on how your traveling after Friday night.

GO PIES!

I've likewise given up on top 4, however under the right circumstances we can take it out from 5th. Gaining the momentum of winning our final 6 games in the lead up to that is paramount though IMO which is what makes this week the most important of the year.

Anyone else notice two 6 day breaks before finals against the reigning premiers and Hawthorn?

Both those teams get 7 day breaks. Then the AFL give us West Coast who were supposed to be top 4 locks and then North who were tipped to be top 6 this year. All by design. Luckily though West Coast and North backfired on Vlad and his slimy cohorts.

Oh yeah, come first finals we get a 6 day break as well.

I thought he did pretty well. It pissed me off no end that Mumford was basically allowed to ragdoll him, but whenever Lynch laid a finger on Munford he got penalised
Agree, what were the frees in the centre for? Blocking? Wish I could swear!!!!:thumbsdown:

Fair shake of the sauce bottle!

He's just kept one of the absolute elite midfielders of the competition to 16 possessions (just 3 of those kicks) and you want to drop him for an outside player against a team that has bullied us in the past four outings...

Caff goes to Hodge if he's over that surgery of his and Mitchell if Hodge doesn't get up. To my change:

Out: Grundy
In: Hudson

Sorry big fella consecutive 6 day breaks heading into our most important match of the year and just the 4th of your career isn't exactly a recipe for success. We'll welcome you back the following week though when you and Huddo have another huge task.

I won't be surprised though if its Jolly that gets the call up. I get the feeling that we're playing funny buggers with him due to the 5 day break between the VFL game and next Fridays match. I wouldn't go with it because I personally think we can stick a fork in him, but the coaching staff are unlikely to share my view.
Can Hudson come up after a 5 day break?

Can Hudson come up after a 5 day break?

I wouldn't have thought so personally. Therefore I'd be holding him over from today's match and letting Witts and Richmond handle the ruck duties. That's why I get the feeling Jolly isn't in the line up, but the club have a more intimate knowledge of the situation so I bow to their judgement.

Only change I can foresee is Seedsman in if he has a blinder in the VFL, need his line breaking ability against the Hawks. Grundy stays, smashed it last night and he will do it again against the Hawthorn ruckmen.

In Seedsman Out Dwyer

Yeah, as I said to the other post, will withdraw this recommendation. I think Caff has brought himself another week.

I just think we need more outside ability against the Hawks, who pin point targets if there is a metre of separation.
With hodge and buddy under a cloud and Sewell out of form we should not be tinkering with our settled 22. Cheers

I'd like to see how Grundy will go against a ruckman like David Hale. Shane Mumford is an absolute workhorse, probably one of the hardest working ruckmen, but he doesn't strike me as the canny, tactical type and therefore Grundy could hold his own because it was effectively one brute against another. Hale has a fair bit of cunning in his game. Knows how to work forward and make himself dangerous. I think that would be an important type of opponent for Grundy to come up against in his 4th game.

And despite it being incredibly frustrating, I think we are seeing the reward of having a conservative injury/rehab policy with players like Beams, Ball, Keeffe and Goldy starting to hit their straps. I would not want us to deviate from that policy for the sake of having an experienced ruckman in Jolly back in the side. For the time being, we have him covered with the form of Grundy, Witts and Hudson before him, and to a lesser extent, Lynch. Let Jolly take his time, get his body right and bring him in when ready.

And finally - if the talk over the week about Swan and Pendles being a little sore has some basis in truth, then maybe we should consider resting them. They have carried a massive burden this year while the rest of the midfield got its act together. I wouldn't be too disheartened if they were given a week off. I know we have a chance for top 4, and I know we shouldn't mess with a good thing, BUT now that we've cemented another finals tilt, giving them a breather could be more beneficial long term.

A maybe change: IN Seedsman OUT Pendles (earned a rest, me thinks, he's been mega)

Hawthorn's midifeld is really struggling compaed to this time last year. Mitchell is playing a lot at half back, Sewell was in and out of the team, and Rioli is struggling to impact the game. This is where we win the game - beat them in the middle, and hopefully Cloke has another big one against their undersized backline. I also think Reid could be improtant here, if Gibson goes to him he needs to cause separation for Cloke to compete one on one.
