surely people trolling when saying drop Blair? he was awesome.

Only change i would contemplate would be Jolly in for Grundy.

The big question with this games lies with their forward line on our backline, with no Reid we look a bit shaky against the gun full forwards. I have had faith in nate brown, but he performance against Tippett has left me questioning whether or not he can take on those big stars.

I haven't scrolled though this thread but has anyone thought of playing Goldsack on Franklin? Buddy cant take a contested mark to save his life, and goldsack is athletic enough to go with him on a lead and at ground level... just a thought.

B: M.Williams, T.Goldsack, N.Brown
C.Rioli, L.Franklin, D.Hale

HB: H.Shaw, L.Keefe, N.Maxwell
L.Bruest, J.Roughead, J.Gunston

i am pretty confident that marley will contain cyril, and if heath is switched on he will dispatch of Bruest. I am concerned about Gunston, especially because Maxwell will be told to help Goldsack/Brown/Keefe by being third man up, which could leave Gunston all alone.

I had the same buddy match up earlier in the thread. Also he might not play he was injuried last week.

Lachy Keeffe has to go to buddy based on strength.....I like the Goldsack theory because buddy doesnt take overhead marks.....but hawthorn would just isolate them in the goalsquare if Goldy goes to him.
Nathan Brown is very shaking and needs to prove his worth....I think David Hale would be a good matchup for him

Gunston is out too!

I would be shocked if Cyril is playing too after his sling tackle on Geary. He has to go for that.

Looking back at round 3 and forecasting an unchanged lineup for this week the following personnel changes have taken place between those 17 rounds.

OUT
  • Ben Hudson
  • Ben Johnson
  • Dale Thomas
  • Martin Clarke
  • Alan Toovey
  • Jordan Russell
  • Alex Fasolo
  • Jack Frost
  • Ben Sincliar (As a forward)
IN
  • Brodie Grundy
  • Luke Ball
  • Dane Beams
  • Josh Thomas
  • Marley Williams
  • Brent Mcaffer
  • Lachlan Keefe
  • Nick Maxwell
  • Ben Sincliar (As a Defender)

Looking at the changes, its half the starting 18. The past loss will have little effect on the team runing out for my mind, its a totaly different game. Johnno was on his last legs, hudson played manfully, russell and clarke are both too slow for the quick movement. We have beefed up our midfield and contested ball winning with the inclusions, and for mine thats an area in the middle which hawks are only a middle tier. Exploit the ball there and it give our outside game a much better opportunity for first strike. The defense also looks more settled with those inclusions.

No change thanks.

I think Reid may have to play down back if Buddy comes back in.
Reid, Brown and Keeffe to play on Buddy, Roughy and Hale.

Mitchell has been playing a bit off the half back line so Macaffer to get a run with role on him.
Or potentially as a defensive forward on Josh Gibson.

B - Keeffe Brown Williams
HB - Shaw Reid Maxwell
C - O'Brien Swan Beams
HF - Macaffer Lynch Sidebottom
F - Elliott Cloke Goldsack
R - Grundy Ball Pendlebury
INT - Blair Sinclair J.Thomas
SUB - Dwyer

People saying Reid has to go back. We can't just give in to their talls down there. This would be exactly what the hawks want. We take another tall out of our forward line and gibson/stratton/lake etc will just all zone off their man and onto Cloke. We keep Reid/Lynch down there with cloke it makes it that much harder if they can all space out.

Theres no reason why I wouldn't trust goldy to take care of Hale, Hale isn't exactly a superstar and hes been in some shit average form of late aswell.

I'd be very surprised if the Hawks risked Franklin. Doesn't matter how mild a hammy it was, it's rare to miss only one and you'd think they'd be extra cautious this time of the year.

Cyril Rioli has been cleared of that sling tackle.....I am flabbergasted
Hes over rated anyway. If hes out chances are someone would come in and actually do something.

Unless Hawthorn are 10 goals up, cause then he looks magical.

Agreed. Its not like hawthorn is any taller than what sydney gave us last week...... Roughead, franklin*, Resting ruckman (Hale/Grimley) equates to Tippet, White, Resting ruckman (Mumford/Pyke). we negated that fairly well bar keefe not lining up on tippet from the beggining.

He plays well against you guys though rather have him in than not.

You won the game in the middle. It is the same formula this week win it in the middle. Stop us fom winning it and you win the game.

That's pretty much it, although Sydney did lock the ball in their half for a large period in the second quarter and we were able to tie them down well. Our midifeld often racks up the touches against Hawthorn but your forward line kills us.

Yep Sydney doesn't have the forward line to trouble you at this stage. Apart from tippett their other forwards are injured. Its the qualit of the ball going forward and the pressure applied by your midfielders and defenders.

I reckon people are somewhat over-reacting to the form of Nathan Brown. The way COLA Tippett led and marked out in front, I doubt whether many other full-backs could have done much better than Brown. Also, in the recent game against GWS with Cameron, Brown was never outmarked one-on-one. Cameron bombed a couple from outside 50m and got a snap when the ball bounced over Brown's head. Brown has had a pretty solid year, apart from those two games.

Ive inexplicedly forgotton about Roughy. Now im trying to think outside the box.....Heath Shaw to Buddy? and Keeffe to roughy......with Marley on Bruest. Its not easy trying to match up the Hawks and this is based on Gunston out and Cyril suspended....

Buddy aint the best of contested marks vs other KPP but he will eat H.Shaw for breakfast and out mark him every time.

Hale will play ruck. Gunston in doubt isn't he? Buddy Roughead and Grimley/Gunston will be their talls

Memo: Nathan Buckley & Senior Match Committee

For goodness sake, I beg you, plead with you.......PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE ensure you place someone on Josh Gibson (e.g. Tyson Goldsack) and make him ACCOUNTABLE!!!

I am sick to death at seeing him going third man up against Cloke and win constant uncontested possessions which leads to rebound 50 out of our forward line.

If he wins Spud Frawley's "GOLDEN FIST" nomination for this game I will violently spew!!!
Our forward line is much taller the last time we played them, he'll have to be more accountable towards his direct opponent

If Gunston doesn't play which is now likely, Spangher will then be our third tall marking forward, leaving Hale to play more time in the ruck with Max Bailey still in some doubt with that hip injury.

The big difference between Franklin, Roughead and Gunston compared to Tippett, Mumford, Pyke and White is the ground level skills of Franklin and Roughead are outstanding as well as their agility. They aren't slow like some of the other key forwards going around. That's where they do most of the damage.
