The penalty is usually a fine, I didn't expect him to be given weeks, but more for the MRP to take a stand and reinforce the message that staging has no place in our game.
A team on the verge of cementing a position in the top 4, and quite possibly the top 2, and with a big game ahead and with the team on a 5 match winning streak, and again he only thinks of himself.
Imbecile. Stop staging for free kicks, stop with the selfish attitude and stop letting your teammates down.
I'm appalled to be honest.
Well at least you admit your post was ridiculous.so was this one . . .
but seriously, Johnson would have a brain fade if he played as Crowley just pushes his buttons the limit. It's a loss but it is one we can cover for this game given Schroder or Stringer had solid performances on the weekend. They know their roles and with Fremantle missing Mzungu and possibly Pavlich, I still like our chances.
To be fair, not one of those previous suspensions were warranted, especially when you compare similar incidents and inconsistencies with the system.I was at 'appalled' about 18 months (and - what - four suspensions ago?) ago.
'dramatic exaggeration' = 'staging' in every dictionary I know of.And in other news from the gutless tribunal "It was the view of the panel that while Thomas propelled himself forward after the initial contact by Kelly, there had been contact to his back. No further action was taken".
Staging is a blight on the game and should be eliminated. Brad Scott acknowledged what Thomas did, so why couldn't the MRP?
Steve Johnson, Geelong Cats, has been charged with a level one misconduct (kneeing) offence for kneeing Scott Thompson, North Melbourne, during the first quarter of the Round 19 match between the Geelong Cats and North Melbourne, played at Etihad Stadium on Saturday August 2, 2014.MRP: Steve Johnson can accept 1 game for kneeing Scott Thompson and in other big news Brisbane's Daniel Merrett has been cleared.
It did look similar but a) the contact wasn't high on the chest and b) his opponent pulled him in.I'll wait to see the transcript (and the incident for that matter), but I'd suggest that has Buckley's chance of working. They consult with the player and (if required) the club doctor to determine that. Johnson wouldn't know. The only way I think you can argue a charge down is to lower the conduct grading (e.g. reckless to negligent), or to suggest there was some other sort of mitigating circumstance (e.g. player lost his balance, due to factors out of his control).
If this is a similar incident to him kneeing Nathan Jones last season, he can get ****ed. Seriously.
Hang on SJ! Aren't you the one who counselled me to accept the good with the bad with SJ?I knew he'd get done for that. Idiot.
far out- so an 88 point cloud overshadowing him for the next 12 months!!! might as well challenge for once!Steve Johnson, Geelong Cats, has been charged with a level one misconduct (kneeing) offence for kneeing Scott Thompson, North Melbourne, during the first quarter of the Round 19 match between the Geelong Cats and North Melbourne, played at Etihad Stadium on Saturday August 2, 2014.
In summary, due to his previous poor record, his one-match sanction must remain at one match, even with an early plea.
Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the North Melbourne Football Club, the incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), low impact (one point) and body contact (one point). This is a total of four activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level One Offence, drawing 125 demerit points and a one-match sanction. He has an existing bad record of six matches suspended within the last two years, increasing the penalty by 40 per cent to 175 demerit points and a one-match suspension. He also has 75.71 demerit points carried over from within the last 12 months, increasing the penalty to 250.71 points and a two-match sanction. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to 188.03 points and a one-match sanction.
I like your glass half full approach Bobbygood result. Woulda got wiped out for a couple anyways had he played against Fremantle.
Rest up Johno and we'll see Caddy, Bundy and Guthrie take over the reigns in the guts this weekend.

I can't recall this incident but I hazard a guess that it's again only minor, but you think he'd have learnt by now....correct.
1. Our QC is terriblefar out- so an 88 point cloud overshadowing him for the next 12 months!!! might as well challenge for once!
Too p!ss weak! Plus North are playing GWS next weekAnd in other news from the gutless tribunal "It was the view of the panel that while Thomas propelled himself forward after the initial contact by Kelly, there had been contact to his back. No further action was taken".

agree with that MC. the fine is capped at something like 2400 with an EARLY PLEA BARGAIN... like you're going to pretend you weren't faking it when it's all on cameraAnd that's the problem. A fine should not be a suitable penalty for anything other than wrestling, or incidental umpire contact. I'm ok with a reprimand for a first staging offence, but it should come with points.
good points-1. Our QC is terrible
2. He won't win
3. We need him against Carlton

SJ is a deadset dumbarse.... How often do you have to be rubbed out before it sinks in??
Old dogs + new tricks comes to mind. Very disappointing when we have the Fockers next week!I cringed when I watched the replay of the game this morning.
When will he learn?
How will that help?
His poor record means a reprimand is not an option for him, probably for the remainder of his career. The only possible sense in challenging, is if he has a legitimate argument/defence.
The Ballantyne incident has seen similar incidents with no case to answer. Mitchell twice, Hannerbury (I think) and other players who've escaped my memory. My 6 year old daughter has thrown harder punches. Let's not forget Ballantyne keeled over like he'd been shot. The bump on Hanley never made contact with his head, it was a disgraceful suspension. The kneeing charge on Jones was weak as piss by Johnson. Classic cheap shot. He deserved to go, every day of the week. Ballantyne? Punch in the guts off the ball (in a ****ing preseason game, with Hawthorn coming up in Round 1). Suspension every day of the week. The bump on Hanley (was it)? Ok, that can happen when a player is just in the wrong place at the wrong time. But he went past the ball and left his feet. Gone.
Again, if it's the same as the Jones incident (as people are suggesting), it's a dog act, pure and simple. Doesn't matter what damage it ends up doing. Dropping the knees in on a player that is prone on the ground is a really good way to start an all-in brawl. It's a no-no on the footy field.
