Good grinding win in the end. The dogs threw everything they had at us and make no mistake we are only going at around 60-70% right now. You add in Thomas,Didak,Tarrant,Jolly and that makes a huge difference to our side. Im happy with how we're tracking atm considering the injuries we have.

Beams and Sidebottom were awesome tonight. I liked Buckleys game. Yeah he made a couple of kicking errors. It was the execution and not the decision that was the problem. He attacked the contest hard and provided good rebound. I thought Dawes worked hard tonight and the more he does that the better he will get. Pendles was brilliant us usual, just so strong and uses the ball in close so well.

I liked the idea of Reid forward. We have a great luxury of having Keeffe,Brown,Reid and Tarrant. 1 of them forward at a time will give the opposition teams a headache as they'll have to put a key tall backman on them.

All in all I'm still confident that we're a major player this year. It's such an even competition but eventually the best teams will begin to shine and I have no doubt we will be thereabouts when the whips are cracking.

Ah, Johnson did play today.

Sidebottom was better than fairly good, was behind Beams and Pendles for BOG for mine.

Cloke had a poor first half, but had a very good second half, not just the last.

Agree with the rest.

Agree with all the above, but Cloke.
Cloke did well not to give away a few 50's "questioning' the umpire concept of what holding entails.
If it were me there would have been more than a couple of "John Bourke" incidents and at least one umpire eating his dinner through a straw for a few weeks.
Cloke though showed how he has matured as a player and held his tongue.

I thought we won that game because of classy individual performances rather good team play.

Sinclair did some good things, well done to him. Make no mistake, there would be no red faces by the Sinclair knockers - everybody **wants** him to do well. And tonight he took a step. Well done lad.

Keeffe is progressing well. He's doing a lot of off ball stuff which is beyond his years.

Beams and Sidebottem both did very well.

Wood, oh Wood, what a shocker! Did I hear the crowd give him Bronx cheers when he marked in the last 5 minutes? No club can support a player playing that bad after their - how many years has he been playing??? I really want Wood to do well, but how many chances has he had?

Wellingham played a few cameo roles, but really needs to get involved more.

Simon Buckley has a problem. It's easily fixed. Can anybody remember him ever changing his mind about an action? It's as if he's made up his mind to kick it somewhere - and if he sees that's a good option then the ball gets delivered straight away. If there's a nest of opposition players there, he hesitates, then kicks it there anyway.

Couldn't blame him if he did go down the dark side path. That one in the last when running to the ball after a quick kick from the centre bounce, pushed fair and square in the back and even had Lake drive him into the ground without the ball, the umpires reasoning was he pushed back into him????

Showed some real restraint though "f***ing bulls***" isn't really holding your tongue. :D

Cheers mate.:thumbsu:
The Dogs played well, got the ump on us early and made it hard for us.
Sorry, couldn't help fixing that for you! ;)

WTF was that? Umpires appreciation day, you have to be joking. Does that mean umpires are allowed to show who they barrack for or something? I rarely complain about umpiring but the lack of obvious frees for us smacked of downright cheating. How can Cloke get smashed in the face from front on in a marking contest and get nothing for it? How the hell can Sidey get tackled off the play, held for about 10+ seconds and then wrestled to the ground and still get nothing? I could go on but honestly I don't remember the last time I saw such blatantly one sided umpiring.

What did you expect from Reid playing forward for the first time in donkeys years? To be next incarnation of Wayne Carey?
Hmm seem to have stepped on someones toes here

Never said he couldn't play forward just that Keefe is the better option of the two.

Why????

Because Reid is invaluable down back, his reading of the play is outstanding and his disposal up ground makes our transitions much more positive.

I certianly woulnt write Reid off as a forward but between him and Keeffe I'd choose Keeffe..

Reasons
(a) Keeffes height makes him a better marking target, especially if hes the "third" tall.
(b) Keeffes ability to kick on either foot makes him a tougher player to defend agianst as he can turn either way. One sided players can get coralled a lot easier.
(c) With Brown back doing the "uncreative" stuff Reid provides a better contrast to that style....ie he is more creative than Keeffe.
(d) Keeffe despite his good form is still young and prone to clangers and getting turned inside out by opponents
(e) Reid is an AA defender

But I'm not opposed to mixing and matching according to how the game is panning out.

Lachie Keeffe has really come of age.

IMO, whilst he has been awesome in defence, he looked just as comfortable in attack.

I really liked the impact he was having on the game in the last qtr in attack when he switched with Reid.

He is such a focal point as a marking target and he created enough spillages for our smalls too.

This is why I have him earmarked to play the Leroy Brown role as the third tall and pinch hit ruck. He is mobile enough around the ground and he has an excellent set of hands. He is also dual sided and composed with ball in hand. His ball use is very good.

Reid can still swing but he looks so settled at CHB.

There are at least half a dozen obvious frees that should have been paid to collingwood, at least 3 in the first quarter.
But what has complaining to the fascist AFL ever done? Probably nothing but I think Eddie needs to say something about that game.
Justin Schmidt has to have been match fixing.

Great win.

Cant speak highly enough of the endeavour of the team over the past few weeks.

Good to see Dawes play better this week

agree, yep, great win against a determined side.
Dogs played their grand final and we won.
Umpires were match fixing a bulldogs victory and we still won.
Dogs will finish bottom 4.
Pies will finish top 4.
I have total confidence in this team - it might look different and we've had some injuries, but it's all sunshine from my where I sit.

I can't believe i'm saying this, but I think Keefe has been our best backman this season. It's an unbelievable turn of form from last season - what a difference a position swap makes.

Saw in the HS yesterday that Pendles only got 1 vote. WTF

I've never like those voting things in the HS and The AGE. Some of those reporters have their favourites.

Everyone banged on about how Griffin was best on ground, watched the whole game last night and didn't notice him that much.

But Jon Ralph has no idea, what do we expect? Apparently Lake gets votes for holding and scragging Cloke in every marking contest.

Griffin was the absolute standout for the Dogs.
Pendles, though, split the chocolates with Beams, Sidey and Shaw, not to mention Swan, with Beams my BOG.

HUN seem to put great stock in Supercoach stats, Griffen 152, Pendles 145, Beams 137, Sidey 131 and Shaw 130.

They have to go by the figures pumped out by the formula for their money spinner though.

Lake only 91 though?

Griffin was good, no doubt, but I think Pendles and Beams (possibly Sidebottom as well) were ahead of him.

No doubt.
The comment was about why the HUN had the votes as they did.
I personally don't know how DT and SC work. I can only go by the opinions of those who do.
