Really not sure why there is so much negativity around Hill tbh.

He's a ready replacement and upgrade on Mosi and fill's a need we have.

He played almost every game for GWS last year, except when he had to go home to support his family during Covid, and his brilliant goal in the final almost gave GWS the spark they needed.

Besides his flashes of brilliance, he also averaged nearly 3 tackles a game showing he works reasonably hard off the ball.

Having Hill and Tippa running around our forward line is sure to cause opposition teams a headache.
In his best game he had 6 touches. He kicked 2 goals and had 3 GA's. They are Josh Green like stats.

Because he isn't that good (yet).

As you say he's averaging under 3 tackles a game. For me you need to be averaging 1.5 goals/game with those numbers.

He could be a player but right now he's an "almost" player, which makes it hard to see whether he'll be successful or a bust.

Really I think it's that people are anticipating McCartney being hard to deal with.

I agree, Hill has plenty of upside at his age and experience; 21 I think, and 14 goals last year, 30 games in his career over three seasons, looks like he should continue to get better. I would be wary of the asking price though. BT is very good at his job of generating excitement, but that doesn't mean Hill's all that.

2021 goals per game average is 11.5 up from 8.8 in 2020. 5 score involvements in close to half the average

Josh Green last played in 2018 when the average was 12 and his last fill season was 2017 when the average was 13.

So not really like for like

Good points.

What’s he going to cost us? Didn’t GWS give up 2 second rounders to move up and get him...can’t see them giving him up cheaply.

You'll need to dumb down your point for me.

You are new here so I'll let you off with a warning.

I wasn't impressed with Hill prior to this year, but he grew on me. A lot of almost games.

His stats are average and he goes missing, but there's enough talent to be excited about. That said, he's not worth overpaying for.

Most small forwards go missing, it’s a tough position to play and inevitably you will be in and out of games.

He’s 21 and has huge scope for improvement, reminds me a lot of a young Charlie Cameron.

I think your last part is what most of us are thinking.

I agree that playing as a small forward is difficult. At this stage though, he struggles to find ways to impact games.
He's probably taken a while to adjust because he is so light against mature bodies.
I want him because of his talent, but I don't think we should overpay, especially considering an equal talent in Stengle will cost nothing.

Hill, Tippa & Snelling would give us a nice trio of decent smalls. Hence i'd throw the F2 in with F4 coming back to save some points.

That Snelling can play middle for a bit is handy too, but largely for me is the defensive small forward. Tippa for pressure. Hill would be nice if he can be that X factor type that may not touch it more than 7-8 times a game, but adds a couple of goals when needed

Worth the investment. If one of the Davey twins pays off, by the time they develop i imagine Tippa is close to retiring and we have some succession planning in place.

My thoughts too.

I'm trying to recall whether I've seen him do anything worth interest or whether all I've heard is Dermie talking him up.

He's exactly the type of player I'd expect Dodoro to pursue. Very flashy with little apparent substance to his game.

I agree, however, I have much more faith in our coaches to play to his strengths and extract the best out of him.
