They'll get better offers, Giants have the perfect picks for it.

They do, but you never know, maybe Alex Sexton becomes involved and it becomes a very rare, but very raunchy 'double dump'. It seems like we were in it because we wanted Bowes and the pick, not because we wanted to weaponise the cap room, we had it the wrong way around.

The way we get in on this is getting in the ear of Cooper Stephens or Mitch Knevitt and convincing them there is no way in hell they are getting a game at the cats now.

I don't have faith in Dodoro to navigate the logistics of the new landscape but even if it's not that and we just go to the draft, this off season is essentially a primer, get ducks in a row and position ourselves to do something further down the line.

Setterfield 2 years, 700k first year, 300k second year (second year is an attainable but he'd have to play well trigger)
Stocker 2 years @ 350k front loaded
Shake the cage on Whitfield, eat his contract in exchange for 22 with 44 coming back, front load his deal.
Similar concept for Sexton but with picks and money scaled back.

Cap floor problems completely solved while maintaining future picks and not committing to anything long term.

Considering that we are about $1.6 Million below minimum total player payment. I present:
Collingwood, Brodie Grundy and P16 for Essendon P22 and full player payment

then

Nick Bryan and P16 for Stkilda's P9 or preferably future 1st.

Getting some strong Jerry vibes from Essendon at the moment.

Obviously wants success and hates money.
Depends what career he wants to have after footy but playing for a Victorian club gets you in the spotlight and playing at a successful one means you can call yourself a premiership player forever afterwards. Both of those things are helpful if you want to work in the AFL after your playing career finishes.

GWS: Pick 12 and Haynes Salary (2 years x 850k) for Essendon pick 22

Also make an agreement for GWS to not bid on Davey at their 15 and 19 picks
That’s the kind of deal I was thinking of. Not sure in the draft tampering though 🤣

The balance of factors seems to me to side with Geelong making a pitch to Bowes indicating they are serious about him as a player.

He is entitled to his money. It seems unlikely to me that he's prepared to be washed up at 26/27 for not much else. He must at least be close enough to best 22 for a premiership to be a shot.

Dogs fans melting over Brisbane giving away their first round pick and declaring the Dunkley trade won't get done is giving me flashbacks to the Stringer trade.

Except the dogs didn't want Stringer.

Tom Phillips for free it is

The only thing I hate about front ending the contracts is that when they get through the early years, and they start getting peanuts, they can ask for a trade. Fantasia and Ryder still burn.
You can space it so it goes large chunk then a couple of unders years then leave a decent piece for the last year
