I have been reading the review thread on AFLX. Interesting reading, the predominant opinion on it is - An abomination, with Meh, running a close second.

Lots of scoring, lots of precise kicking, lots of clean handling. Why arent people loving it? Apparently, its not lots of scoring that people love about footy, and its not lots of nice pretty precise kicks. Apparently, its a contest. Its player on player, a hard at the contest mano on mano fight. Its passion and desperation to win and throwing yourself into the contest. Thats what people come to see.

Whats AFLW? a passionate, hard at it, desperate to win, throw yourself into the contest at all cost grind of a game. What does it lack according to critics, it lacks lots of scoring, clean kicking, smooth moving of the ball end to end. It lacks AFLX.

No, people love the two things together, hard at it and skillful. Anyone can just plough in, to plough in and finesse back out is the show!

Best thing that could have happened for the Blues. Item 1 on any AFLW list manager's manifesto should be to find an on-baller that can reliably get 15+ touches a game (and Arnell is the closest thing they've had to that, fwiw). So either he failed or the coaching has turned the talent into turnips. Either way, I'm pretty sure Carlton didn't need Tayla Harris more than a midfielder who could kick it to the A-grade forward they already had.

How’s Arnell’s form hitting up the CEO when she wasn’t getting picked!!

Proved herself on game day, but that’s not the way to go about it!

That's one flaw about the AFLW. The state leagues (bar SA and NT) are not aligned with its season.

Players dropped due to form are unable to go down to the reserves and get back into form.

From an interview with the Brisbane womens CEO Bree Brock. Confirmation that they are unable to resign their players as the TV deal and the new pay deal are being negotiated, and it may not be finalised to June/July (AFLW signs the players to a 1 season contract that covers about 4 or 5 months). The new pay deal may include a salary cap, not tiers. So the minimum that can be paid will be set, and the maximum, but what each player gets is negotiable between the 2, with total payments not to exceed the cap.

Not this year, but it's possible next year. There was a survey earlier this year, and one of the questions related to what people thought was a fair price.

Wonder what a "fair price" would be.

Id rather they leave AFLW low and reduce entry to AFL mens.

eg.

Instead of

AFLW: $2
AFLmen: $30-$40

Have

AFLW: $5-$10
AFLmen: $20-$25

I dunno

We don't have an actual ground yet, our current home venue is literally a park oval, it would be cheaper for us to let everyone in for free instead of setting up perimeter fencing, hire people to scan/sell entry tickets etc. Then there is the fact that ground has no public transport and is in the middle of nowhere.

Having said that I'd happily pay for admission

Gold coin 'donation' at the door might be a good way to start; gets people in the habit of putting in something to go to a game without needing to be overly heavily policed.

I'm not sure why people keep asking about ground entry to games. We know from the first season that at least half the clubs managed to break even on just sponsorship revenue, the AFL dividend and "memberships".

Throw in a potential broadcast deal, with sponsorship revenue going in one direction, and I can't see why anyone has to be worried about a cost for game entry.

When a W-League game attracts 1,000 people at $10 a pop, how much net income would that represent? I would say next to zero.

Ive asked many times - if you were the AFL would you prefer 1,000 people at $10-15 a pop, or 3-4,000 for free. Example - Last years AFLW Grand Final had a crowd of 15,000 - on the Gold Coast - this years W-league grand final, 6,500 in Sydney. The W-league could do worse than throw its doors open.

Many people, as shown by the good crowds, find the AFLW good entertainment. Games are very fierce, skills are on the improve, we get our much needed footy fix in summer (often on a balmy evening), sometimes at old-style footy grounds. Only the first two Carlton games at Princes Park have been (for 1/2 a game each) very poor spectacles (& a few games in heavy rain, Alice Springs 35 degrees).

I believe many people would be happy to make a VOLUNTARY contribution, to support female AF. The AFL could SUGGEST adults $5 each, teenagers to 18 y.o. $3, kids under 12 free. I think 80% + would voluntarily pay these fees.

Rumours from the grape vine is that IF a Victorian team hosts the Grand Final, it will be at Princes Park and it WILL be ticketed. Be interesting to see what actually eventuates
