The only disappointing thing about the first week of the season has been the one-sided scores.

If we can get some uber-competitive games with scores that reflect that look out!

Dees don't look to have the goods going forward. They were a bit like that at the practice match too.

I think I'm tipping Dogs and Blues playing in the GF... (but I haven't watched the Crows game)
Love your avi of Lauren Juddnell ;)

Think there are three stand out teams but will reserve judgement as its only one game. Think we can hold our own.
I reckon GWS and Freo are better than what they showed on the weekend. I think it's a very open race, with maybe Melbourne and Collingwood lacking form and fitness at present.

Freo vs Dogs was certainly the highest standard game so far.
Dogs are flag favourites for a reason.
However I think our defensive unit can hold our own against any team.
Especially having Davey intercept and rebound back there. She is brilliant, stand out backwoman this round.

I didn't watch it but was the intensity as high as the Carlton v Collingwood game?
Our match had pretty insane tackling and defensive pressure from both sides it was like a mens final.

Also any merit to both teams being a bit more nervous since it was THE first AFLW match and had a bigger media build up?

Well from what i read Bulldogs, Freo, Carlton & Collingwood were the 4 fancied teams...in that order.

But there's obviously not a big form line to judge from, more just on paper but lots can change once the girls are in an AFL environment.
I think Carlton & Collingwood were viewed as being quite equal, but we smashed them and a lot looked to be down to the better coaching and organisation of our team.

I don't think GWS are considered any good because to my knowledge, the girls selected which state they were to be drafted in, which is an obvious choice since they all have day jobs. So GWS could only select girls who chose NSW and i don't think the talent pool runs deep in that state yet.

Agree wholeheartedly....I know it sounds great to have ALL AFL clubs to have a team but there just isn't the talent there and is spread very thin already.

There's a gulf in the standard between the exhibition games of the last few years and the 2 games I watched this weekend.

I see all the key women wanting to expand ASAP but I feel that will be to the detriment of the comp.

BBL is absolutely smashing everything out of the park literally, have plenty of talent the world over yet are very reticent to expand into more teams after 5 seasons and look like adding an extra home game for all current teams.

I feel the comp needs at least 3 years before thinking about expansion. It currently costs nothing to get in so is very attractive to families but what happens when the inevitable happens? People will then start expecting a standard much closer to mens or at least the exhibition games where it was the best of the best.

It's far too soon to think about it now expansion imo

Perhaps the intensity wasn't as high but the skills and system were quite good.
They seemed more evenly matched.

Put it this way, I cant see us dominating either of those teams like we did against the pies.

But we have Davey! So you never know.

2 of GWS' big guns missing Satty - they will be obliterated.

Freo looked alright.

Who is going to win out of Pies and Dees though? Neither look like they've clicked yet.

Melbourne should have midfield dominance if they switch on.

I'm worried about how we'll perform against some of the better running sides if last weekend's form is any guide.
