AFLW Round 5: Adelaide Crows vs Brisbane Lions

Just wanted to pop in and say well done you Lions - you sure are the real deal. And I sure hope if its not us its you guys left standing at the end (and not those damn Vics!). I was at the match and that was the best womens match of the comp bar none by a very long way and a fantastic match to watch. There is daylight between our two sides and the rest of the comp and not another side in the comp would have beaten either of us tonight. Thanks for a great game - had a ball. Good luck for the rest of the season.

Some observations:

Great game, Adelaide is a very physical side, their no13 is a beast (I mean that in a really positive way).

Umpires 28 and 16 need a good kick in their campaigners. Beyond disgraceful.

Our back 6 are superb, Kasler struggled with the big one in the air but is so damn competitive. Campbell was also very good. Our 20 had a sequence of gut busting play that was literally game saving in the last qtr. Then came off injured.

We can win with our big keys not firing Harris struggled with the tag and Sabrina got a Cork early.

We lost contested ball early and worked into in the 2nd half

We are fast and speed kills

We won that losing i50s 36-18. Huge stat.

Great to watch a lions game with the whole family and all of us screaming

SWMBO, after getting right into it all game, couldn't watch the last 4 mins and had to leave the room. She let out an almighty yell when I "announced" they had won, and came running back into the room ............. Priceless.

Me, I couldn't stop loudly complaining about the umpiring (bad decisions both ways .... but seemed 30-70 to us).
Nearly smashed the TV when the siren went ...... and I thought that the whistle I heard was going to be a 50m free kick ...... (luckily, for my future viewing pleasure ......it was just the final whistle).

Can't take the Bulldogs or Carlton lightly in the coming weeks. Our percentage is again closer to that of adelaide's after last night but still lower than the crows. Basically, we need to go through undefeated to make sure the home final is a certainty.

I saw one lone Lion in the crowd.....poor bugger!

He must have been very loud because during the telecast thought I heard more noise from Brisbane supporters (maybe port fans who jump on against adelaide?) particularly some bronx cheers when brisbane finally got some frees.

Funny!

I'm in a thread that is open to anyone who feels like commenting it's not locked to a small select group. I'll be sure to point out every negative comment you make about the men's team this season.
In the interests of playing the post and not the poster, I wanted to point out that this and previous posts read as though they were written by a huge tool, who clearly has an agenda against the women's comp, lacks insight into how completely transparent this agenda is to everybody else, and probably enjoys popping the balloon of the birthday kid.

I SAW a lone Lion in the crowd, sitting by himself surrounded by crows......It wasn't him I heard, just saw, and felt sorry for him..

As a WA supporter who is always in the minority when the Lions play here, there's nothing like being hopelessly outnumbered and leaving the stadium after a win. Listening to the grumblings and excuses from the defeated is priceless.

Of course my memory of this is a little sketchy as we haven't won here for an eternity...

Was the last one in the horrific sideways rain against Freo? I remember leaving that game absolutely stoked despite being drenched right through!

I think 2009 v Freo, and 2007 for WCE when we were the rank underdogs. Bit sad when you think about how long it's been.

Hah yeah that was the moment. I though oh wow that's odd, the home crowd don't normally Bronx cheer that kind of stuff. Then I remembered it was obviously just the pocket of lions fans! Terrific!
I read a few days/week ago that in the event of a Brisbane AFLW final they might look to have it at the Gabba early afternoon so people could still make it to Metricon. Anyone know if/when we can expect something definitive in time and location?
See Mikeys post mate,They are planning with the AFL to run buses from the Gabba, gametime,1.30,which should leave plenty.

The umpiring stat, means in effect that Adelaide had an extra player who got 9 clean possessions .

Most frustrating bit with the umpiring wasn't the ones Adelaide got but the ones they missed our way. Think both the crows goals in the third came after we should have got holding the ball free kicks about 20 seconds before the eventual free that went to Adelaide.

It's inevitable with the amount of congestion that there'll be a lot of frees and often relatively soft ones but to pay them one way sucked.

Thought the skills in the first half were top notch, some great passages from both teams controlling the ball well. Dropped off in second half as tiredness and pressure picked up.

Thought Harris despite having a quiet game made some important stat-less interventions particularly in the last quarter making sure Adelaide didn't break away with the ball.

Hopefully Sabrina's corky pulls up well, was obviously hampered by it in the second half.

We beat the Eagles more recently than '07 to avoid the spoon... ('10?)

Aah yes the Brown 'push in the back' mark that wasn't called leading to his game winner. My (Eagles supporting) Dad's last ever live game. He refuses to attend after such an 'umpiring travesty'.

Mitch Brown staged like a sook. Great umpiring.
