Sad to see Brown go but I think there was a very good chance that she would’ve been delisted if a trade could not be facilitated. List spots are a premium at AFLW level and from the club's point of view, she’s spent 2+ years on the list without playing a game and there is no guarantee that she will play another game and is likely one head knock away from retirement. Add to that 2+ years on the sidelines in a competition where skills are growing at an unprecedented rate.

Buttifant, Georgostathis, Gorham, Grant and Kimber are all young and are coming into their own as defenders. Ahrens still has a couple of years left, so the loss of Brown doesn’t leave a hole in the way that say Toogood or Huntington did.

That doesn’t mean it won’t hurt seeing her in Giants colours, but I think it was the best result for all parties involved.

Stephenson is a solid pick-up, not only 50 career games and has been in the system since day dot but she's coming from a program that was built from the ground up with an extremely young list. So not only on-field experience but valuable off-field experience as well.

Time's up on the trade period. One player leaving is a lot better than plenty of past trade periods have been for us.
True, although Eleanor Brown was a favourite, was young, talented replaced with an older player. Hopefully it works out.

If Dogs don’t get Hardingham in the draft they will look like fools.

Reckon that's in the works and the reason we delisted Borg.

Weston-Turner and Farquharson are developing, Hartwig is good in front of goal, and Stephenson brings leadership and maturity. There's only so many list spots and Stephenson in probably meant curtains for McFarlane.

Can anyone tell me what the contract status is with Grigg? I really, really like her, but I am concerned that she is living with her grandfather, and the rest of the family is interstate, she might be yet another flight risk.

Flashing back to this - as the trade period's over without her requesting a trade, that means she's sticking around, yeah?

EMMA McDONALD

Position: Key forward
Height: 180cm
From:
Victoria, Oakleigh Chargers/Ashburton

Top of the pure key forward power rankings this draft, McDonald is a safe and reliable prospect for anyone who picks her up. A noted goalkicker at under-18 level, her overhead and contested marking is her biggest strength, and she leads strongly for the footy.

Though her aerial work is her dominant element, McDonald's groundlevel work is superb for a tall, and a real reason why she is a point of difference compared to many others. Once the ball hits the deck, the 180cm forward is quick to swoop, scooping up the pill quickly and firing out to a teammate or knocking it on for her side's advantage.

It is hard to believe that the player who averaged five marks from 15 touches is such a good groundlevel player, but McDonald won a ridiculous 64.3 per cent of her ball gets from a groundball situation be it loose or hard. While not one to run with the ball too often, she does use overlap handballs or soccers off the deck to space if she sees a teammate in a goalscoring position.

Absolutely love this.
