Surprise, surprise....

Needed to happen years ago.
It seems kind of analogous to Kevin Spacey, who got off, and Jones will be playing the "elderly" card as well.

And if all else fails, and he goes to jail, the High Court will eventually rescue him like they did for Pell

"Not enough evidence, unsafe conviction blah blah blah"

The Vic justice system has had a mare lasting many years. Don’t assume the NSW courts would be as bad.

Veteran broadcaster Alan Jones has been charged with historical indecent assault and sexual touching offences spanning two decades.

NSW Police said Mr Jones was charged with a total of 24 offences involving eight alleged victims.

Great news! The wheels of justice sometimes turn slowly.
83 yo, not enough time left to hurt him.
Driven to cop shop in unmarked car(most don't get that).
Has escaped many problems many times.
Can't see any judge jailing him.
Has enjoyed life without any punishment.
To quote Chopper Read "I wasn't the one arrested outside a toilet block"

Not so sure if there are at least 8 witnesses giving a similar story.

Youngest was a child.

Amazing how many of these people in power get away with this for so long.

Hopefully going forward, it doesn't take so long so they can be jailed sooner & victims kept to a minimum.

Let's see how many of those in positions of power and the media fawn over him now ( looking at you little Johnny )
Surely Bolt will be 1st to defend him...

Funny that these things only happen to prominent people after they fade into obscurity, become old and aren't doing much.
Or more to the point, one or more of the courageous victims finally finds a proper journalist with the principles to make their claims public. All credit here to the journos at the Age/SMH who pursued these allegations and shone light on them in front page stories.

Equally true is the fact that time has eroded the political influence and relevance of those who used their power to promote and protect Jones because of the political power he wielded on their behalf in key Sydney electorates, both State and Federal.

Alan Jones had former Liberal Prime Ministers John Howard and Tony Abbott as his closest friends and his power reached into the upper echelons of Sydney society, politics, business and the judiciary.

In the words of the freelance journalist David Leser in today's Sydney Morning Herald:

A quarter of a century ago I wrote a story for Good Weekend magazine with the headline: “Who’s afraid of Alan Jones?”

The answer was almost everyone.

Of the nearly 100 people I interviewed, only a handful were prepared to be quoted by name. The rest were too scared of retribution.

“He could destroy my company,” one chief executive told me. “If I want to be employed again in Sydney,” said another, “I have to be really careful.”

“You could end up losing your job or being sued. He has a ridiculous amount of power,” said a third. And this from a fourth: “You can’t take him on because you’ll only cop another bucket [on radio] the next morning.”

In another crime thread someone asked how Mohamed Al-Fayed, the now deceased billionaire and owner of Harrods, could have so easily got away with multiple counts of sexual assault.

This is how - protection from those in power.

We have a long way to go from charges to conviction. But if those convictions come, it is surely time to hold those who held power and used it to protect Jones, to be called to account (but we all know that will never happen).
