It's made the New York Times with the headline of Australian Shock Jock Charged with Sexual Assults.

The hypocracy of AJ in his table thumping vilification of others, particularly Julia Gillard and Jacinta Ardern, was always to be despised and reviled.
These charges were a long time coming and the NSW police are asking for more people to come forward.

I speculate that for those (individuals or organisations) with power, that wanted to attempt to kompromat, influence or restrict what Jones said/wrote and did not say/write, some of them might have had some degree of actual, perceived or potential leverage over him from

1. Him pretty much parking himself in the sexual preferences closet for all his life.

2. Knowing something about some of the things he's now been charged of, and maybe some things (if any) that he's either going to be charged to over the next few years, or things (if there are any) that he will never be charged with.

All speculation of course.
And as per the law, he's legally innocent until he's not.

pretty shocking allegations though there has been smoke with jones for years. Not surprised at all to see him charged.

I don't think that's true.

In fact he publicly supported gay marriage in a 2012 interview and in 2016 Jones publicly stated he opposed the same sex marriage plebiscite because it could be “angry and spiteful and divisive” and "gay and lesbian Australians have suffered enough".

His opposition to the same sex marriage plebiscite was latched onto by church and conservative groups as him being against gay marriage but that was a misrepresentation. He was against a costly, divisive and unnecessary plebiscite NOT the concept of same sex marriage.

His 2016 statement said "love was “an elusive thing”.

“If people find it they should be able to celebrate it. If that celebration manifests itself in same-sex marriage, then the world’s not going to fall in. I think people are tired of all this,....”

But again, it's his alleged criminality that's the issue in this thread and NOT his sexuality or his social opinions no matter how offensive or hypocritical they might seem in retrospect.
